I will be covering the California, New York, Florida, New Jersey and Massachusetts delegations on Capitol Hill.
From these delegations? Let’s grab coffee — and add me to your press lists: mmccarthy

House Republicans have failed to pass a last-ditch funding bill, making a government shutdown starting this Sunday, October 1, almost certain.
A shutdown will delay disaster recovery projects, cancer research, and more, while forcing federal employees to work without pay.
🚨Personal news🚨
I am thrilled to announce I’ll be joining

as a 2023-2024 fellow! Becoming a full time politics reporter has been my dream for years and I am so excited to learn from Politico’s innovative newsroom so soon:
NEW:
@RepBonnie
tells me "it is time" to reform the New Jersey county line system.
“I think it is time for some reform that opens up to more voters."
This comes as Watson Coleman has stayed neutral in the senate race and other New Jersey Dems have been quiet on the issue.
NEW: The Florida Republicans who oppose earmarks — and took the money anyways
Nine Florida Republicans got earmarks approved in the recent appropriations bills, despite voting against them — even if they pledged to not request earmarks in the past.
With his vote for Jim Jordan, Tom Kean once again abandoned New Jerseyans.
From abortion bans to insurrection, Jim Jordan is one of the worst members of Congress.
Tom Kean’s vote directly enables Jordan’s actions. Together, we will remove Kean and restore leadership to

Burchett also apparently pointed to a random Republican and asked if he was usher.

Welcome to the real nepo-babies of New Jersey
Almost a year ago New York Magazine released a cover photo of “Hollywood’s nepo-baby boom.” If that list tracked political nepo-babies, New Jersey would fill an issue all by itself.
My latest for Nightly:
NEW -
@RepBonnie
tells me she is now calling on Menendez to resign.
“I just always wanted him to do the right thing,” she said. “I originally thought that the right thing was this, where I was trying to give him an opportunity to do it.”
“I think he needs to leave this thing.”
And now

NEW: EV fever is hitting Capitol Hill🚙⚡️
I talked to over 100 members of Congress to see if they have made an electric switch. Twenty-five said yes.

There are reporters currently covering Capitol Hill who were literally not born yet the last time Congress passed all spending bills before the new fiscal year
Spotted: Sen. Dan Sullivan on a run in shorts and a marine jacket convincing a House side security guard to let him through the gate because he’s a member of Congress💀

Florida’s Donalds dropping out voluntarily.
Majority of his votes were from 20 person voting bloc that is Florida GOP. But they have been split on who to support up until Donalds.
Gooood morning New Jersey🌤️
All eyes are on Tom Kean Jr., who voted for Jim Jordan yesterday — and who now faces a fiery NJ-7 race and an 11 a.m. speaker vote today.
Will Kean back Jordan or switch to a new candidate today? My latest for NJ Playbook:
It was the week that blew up New Jersey’s political machine.
With Menendez in legal jeopardy, the governor and his wife politically bruised and the county line system under siege, New Jersey may be at a turning point.
