@equalityAlec Charlottesville's police department has for years either refused or genuinely been unable to provide an itemized budget. $18 million/yr pretty much completely unaccounted for. It's insulting when there's so much good that kind of money could be doing for the community.

@NimbyPickle @UVALaw Sorry I don't take my opinions on the appropriateness of protest from a nimby, or a pickle, much less a combination of the two. But I will remind you that a protest which doesn't make people in power uncomfortable is just a parade.

We discuss the strange history of CBP One, why the glitches that have made headlines for months are just the tip of the iceberg, and also chat about ICE's Alternatives to Detention program and surveillance of immigrants once they cross the southern border.

We must shut down all law professors until we can figure out what's going on with them

I wrote about how two Harvard professors accused me of trying to "censor" them when I showed their proposal to add 500,000 cops to arrest 7.8 million more people was riddled with dishonest errors. Then it got weirder. Students sent me the final exam question from Prof. Lewis.

Absolutely depraved behavior from @nytimes once again. The amount of effort the Times invests to quietly defend aggressive policing tactics that are demonstrably harmful is wild. If something is called a"SCORPION Unit" I guarantee you don't have to defend it.

There are a lot of bad thing in the New York Times, but falsely stating—with no source—that the Scorpion unit reduced homicides and “other crimes” in Memphis is one of the lowest points in the paper’s recent history.

My wonderful colleague Dana Khabbaz has a new report out from @EPICprivacy on DHS's location surveillance. This is an exhaustive survey of what's happening at DHS and how the agency buys, sneaks, and grabs any location data on immigrants it can.

And this option isn't much better for people with unreliable internet access, technical hurdles, or disabilities. ID. me didn't build their facial recognition verification process to be accessible and I have no faith that the alternative will be either. 8/12
