I lied. It's up tonight. Enjoy you crazy people.
(I only spot-checked things, so it's possible I may need to re-import/change some stuff still, but I think it's mostly okay)
I'm starting the process of getting the CFB changes onto Playoff Predictors for the 2024 season.
I'm going to remove the PAC-12, since it's not really a conference anymore.
Expecting to have everything up and working by the weekend.
Playoff Predictors'
#NFL
#NFLSchedule2023
will be released a few hours after it goes live generally everywhere else tomorrow, usually in the evening.
As soon as it's available from my import source and I can validate the data, it goes live.
As always, be patient and be kind.
Try to contain yourselves. It's a very long way off, and this was the "easy" part, and I'm doing this entirely in my spare time. It probably won't be ready for several more months.
Never forget that you all wanted this abomination.
I apologize for the down time and the bumps in the road, everyone. The
#NFLScheduleRelease
usually brings the site down because we serve a 500% increase in volume within a few minutes of release.
It's hard for smaller sites like mine to contend with that gracefully.
You NHL people.
This is pretty much what you're asking me to build. I think this is BEYOND hideous, but to support the NHL's full suite of non-score-based tiebreakers this is what I'd have to do.
Friendly reminder that the nicest thing you can do for Playoff Predictors if you're posting a screenshot of our brackets or draft order is to link to us.

I'm trying to work that out with my data vendor. With all the conferences changes it's challenging. Trying to avoid the situation I was in last year of needing to re-import several times over the summer, because that breaks predictions.
I can't speak for my data provider and the complications they're facing.
It's a hard problem with a lot of moving pieces, especially because they supply historical data. I know people want this up and running, but it's out of my hands.
@RayLehnhoff
Any timeline or rough predictions on when the site will be updated? I understand it's mostly out of your hands, but considering realignment is being made official should the databases you use be updating soon as well?
I updated the
#MLB
Predictor for the new season format.
A few disclaimers:
1. I never coded it to have under 2430 regular-season games, so things may behave weirdly
2. You may need to clear your browser's cache before things behave remotely normally
Pushed out some fixes tonight:
1. Fixed draft ordering double-including the 7 seed
2. Fixed
#2
seed showing up as having a bye in the divisional round
3. Fixed several performance issues
4. Turned watchlists back on
5. Updated logos for LAR and LAC 🤮
6. Changed LAS -> LV
What, you don't want to build the tools yourself? From scratch, because nobody else does this stuff?
You don't want to spend hundreds of hours of your own time, money, and energy building it?
Yeah, me either.
@Dave_Ames
@Daxelinho
@NFLScenarios
Playoff Predictors also has draft order tiebreakers done in real time as you select games, which complies to the rule changes from a while back.
Thanks for this suggestion. I actually added international flags today.
For the game times, you can hover over the weekday indicator (Sun) on desktop or long-press on mobile to get a tooltip.
Space is always an issue for us so we don't just show the game time all the time.
@RayLehnhoff
On a similar note I would love if the international games had a flag to note them, and perhaps something saying the time the games were to be played, 1PM Kirk Cousins is real.
Some fun Playoff Predictors Pools stats for everyone:
1. We had 5,019 participants in the public pool
2. We processed 397,176 unique picks across these users
Just to set expectations for tomorrow's schedule release: the NFL website routinely takes a dump, and the schedule never releases on their website when they say it will.
We'll have it tomorrow, but likely a few hours after me and everyone else would like.
Be patient ☺
As the
#NFL
regular season comes to a close, I want to thank
@NFLScenarios
for keeping me honest and his great analysis, and
@JoeNFL
and
@Ivan_Urena1
for helping clear up scenarios and situations over the years. You all help make Playoff Predictors great.
Playoff Predictors will be going offline this evening for some much needed database cleanup/maintenance. It'll be going offline starting 12:00AM MT / 2:00AM ET.
It's been a genuine pleasure to work with you this season and to get your own site up. It serves a need in the community that Playoff Predictors itself cannot adequately fill.
Thank you to
@RayLehnhoff
not only for making a machine that breaks ties correctly but for putting in so much effort for me to get off the ground. This dream would never have been realized without your support.
It's been a genuine pleasure working with these people again this year. They're the ones that work behind the scenes to keep me honest, and keep Playoff Predictors running.
With all that said, I'm super excited that Football is, for me, back in full swing.
Here's to a fantastic 2023 Season!
(and since some of you will ask: CFB 2023 is "Coming Soon™"
1. It would take a significantly longer time than 2 hours. When I hand rolled NFL schedules it took half a day.
2. It wouldn't work with my update bots and there's no chance I could keep it up to date
3. If wouldn't work with games getting canceled, moved, or whatever
To my followers updating their NFL picks today, I invite you to try out the v2 beta of Playoff Predictors, available publicly.
It's not in full feature parity to the v1 site yet, but it's a better experience.
And, incidentally, their longstanding bugs and adamant refusal to either take it down or fix them is why Playoff Predictors even had a leg to stand on. The community deserved better than what ESPN was providing.
Never trust ESPN when it comes to tiebreakers. Their playoff machine is always suspect, and they never bother to correct it.
@JoeNFL
here is the NFL's expert, and you should trust him. If you want to see accurately explained standings, see
Not that Playoff Predictors is anywhere near as costly as a game to build on, but it drives me nuts when people suggest a conceptually "easy thing" is also easy to implement, and that kind of thinking is rampant in consumers of software.
The "I'll pay $10k for someone to add MP to BotW" thing is not so much funny as scary. It shows how little the average person knows about the cost and effort that goes into game development, which drives a lot of player discourse and pushback against devs.
If FSU and Clemson leave the ACC, the ACC, Big 12, and Pac-12 would have 32 teams left. Here’s what an NFL-style 8 divisions of 4 could look like if the Big 12 offered a life raft to the survivors.
"playoff Predictors should tell me a team has clinched!"
Meanwhile your potato chip of a mobile phone trying to calculate these scenarios in javascript prays for death while you complain the screen is frozen.
NEWS: The full
@NFL
schedule is currently slated to be released at 8pm ET on May 15, per memo to teams this afternoon from exec Hans Schroeder.
Teams had been expecting this week, Thursday. Reason for delay not mentioned in memo.
Yeah Sex is cool but have you ever had your own area of expertise, which you have mastered through literally years of effort, condescending explained back to you at a fifth grade level on social media?
It's a support issue. Users can always build their own but I don't want to support schedules for 5+ years, especially if they're broken by other changes.
I probably have 5 years of engineering work I "plan" to do, I don't think I'll ever finish being done with everything.
Programmer Pro Tip: When you have a bot running in the background, and you're not sure when it'll receive the data it needs, it's critical to have a foolproof method to notify you that it finished, in case you're not paying attention.
I'm an adult.
I'm fortunate enough to watch this process unfold in real-time and let me tell you guys, this stuff is HARD. Don't take for granted the amount of work these gentleman put into this stuff (and for free!)
And now the moment you've all been waiting for. After many, many revisions, and intense work with
@JAnstey04
and
@TD_Tom_
, we believe we have the final NYJ scenarios here:
