Today marks the 39th anniversary of the commencement of Operation BLACK BUCK. The 7 operations ran from 30th April to 12th June 1982. At almost 6,600 nautical miles (12,000km) & 16 hours for the return journey, the raids were the longest-ranged bombings in history at the time.

Did you see it yesterday?! RAF Waddington saw the delivery of a RC-135 Rivet Joint Flight Deck Simulator in support of the ongoing Airseeker Programme. It was delivered by a Dubai registered Antonov AN-124 aircraft, not often seen in the Lincolnshire skies.

Our other visitor this week was the mighty Douglas C47 Dakota from the @RAFBBMF The Dakota first hit the skies in 1935. The last active type was retired in 1970 with 'Kwicherbichen' ZA947 finding its way to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Official) in 1993.

As part of the V (AC) disbandment the Squadron Standard was ‘lodged’ at RAF Cranwell yesterday afternoon. The ceremony was captured beautifully, complete with Dakota fly past! A fitting send off for an exceptional @RoyalAirForce Squadron.

OTD 25 years ago, a Nimrod R1 aircraft from No.51 Sqn, RAF Waddington, made a landing in the sea following an in-flight engine fire. Flight Lieutenant Art Stacey’s actions saved all 7 crew members, for which he was later awarded the Air Force Cross. #ThisWeekatWaddo

We were honoured yesterday to have Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston visit V(AC) Sqn. The Chief of the Air Staff and his Warrant Officer Mr Jake Alpert congratulated the Squadron for it’s efforts over the past 13 years (flying the Sentinel R1) & presented awards. @RoyalAirForce
