I coded this graph showing how the Red Sox (in other words Andrew Bailey) have basically eliminated all fastballs that don't have ride traits to it. And to put it into better context, most of the 2024 fastballs at less than 15" IVB are Greg Weissert's, who has great VAA traits.

My friend and his friends, who were at the game, chirped at Altuve right before his homer. He handed them his bat after as they were sitting near the Astros dugout, and ended up with a signed bat and a pic with him after the game.

Personally, I don’t get the trade. You’re dealing a good pitcher with three years of team control for a single-A mid round pick who hasn’t popped at any point. It’s one thing if you’re dealing rentals, trading Schreiber I just don’t get. Selling in February…

Red Sox go with 6-foot-6 Payton Tolle at R2, an elite over 7-feet of extension and gets close to 20” of ride on the 90-92 T96 FB. Secondaries are a bit underdeveloped with the heater at a 75% usage rate but love the unique arm slot at a sub-6 Release-Ht.

The best player still on the board entering Day 2 has to be Dakota Jordan. Bat-to-ball ability and overall hit tool the obvious flaw, but its plus-plus raw with a 109 90th% EV this year along with a plus run tool—makings of a future power-heavy COF.

~New~ Nick Robertson, from the Kiké trade, originally garnered hype from his changeup that had a 25 SwStr% in Triple-A when acquired, but his mid-season changes had him not even using it by September. How the Red Sox completely revamped Nick Robertson:

Nick Pivetta’s 28 sweepers tonight is by far the most he’s ever thrown the pitch since he started using it. 42 Whiff% on 19 swings leading to 1 ER/10 Ks/6 IP. Absolutely filthy outing. The most he used it previously was 16 times back in September.

Top 6 teams that threw it down the middle most in order last year, and the xwOBA on those pitches STL - .411 COL - .425 SEA - .388 TBR - .390 LAD - .386 WSH - .457 Throwing it down the middle works for teams with stuff (LAD, TBR, SEA). Polar opposite for low-stuff teams.

At the Red Sox we tried to convince our pitchers/catchers for years to throw it down the middle and could never get buy in. Watch the Rays catchers set up in the middle about 75% of the time, way more than any other team. #tampabayrays #mlb
