David Stearns says Harrison Bader will "play regularly" in centerfield for the Mets, and the discussion for Brandon Nimmo to be in left field will be had throughout Spring Training
Bad take. After 2020, Carlos was one of 3 finalists in Boston before we brought Alex Cora back. We spoke to 10 candidates with no ML managerial experience, and he was by far the most prepared to be a manager on day 1. Good hire!

. I’ll give the Mets a pass for not offering Counsell $40M. But while Mendoza is popular, I say the Mets had better options even among managerial rookies (4 of them in here) (Also in: the 7 teams that called on Counsell)
I know people (same industry) who were accused (some falsely), punished, and unable to continue their careers. Btw, they didn't make $77m. Do you know how they handle it? They wear it, don't publicly complain, and quietly work on themselves personally and professionally.🤷♂️

I like the defensive improvements, especially in a market light on hitting. Before ‘21, I wanted to add a plus CF with Nimmo in LF but JBJ’s price was too high. Our focus turned to improving Nimmo, and he and OF coach Tony Tarasco worked their tails off in ST to get there.

Steve Cohen once told me he would like to be more like the Rays. I painted a picture of that world - frequent roster churn with a disciplined, primary focus on future value. Then I asked, "Do you really want that?" He laughed and said no. I pointed to the Dodgers instead.

Love this! Many owners want to be the Rays to pay less per win. I get that, but you don't win trophies for having the most efficient payroll. The Rays embrace their constraints and do a great job, but they operate in a different environment, one without expectations or pressure.
MLB is the only sport with broadcasters who openly dump on the product. It’s been going on for years. You don’t hear that nearly as much in other sports.

I never want to impact a player's market so I only talk about the past markets. I was acting GM of the Mets when we almost signed him. I wanted nothing to do with him but others above me did. I don't say that to toss them under the bus because the talent was obviously there.
Trades are about maxing out value. Kelenic could have been used in a trade for something else, and they still could have ended up with Diaz. It’s the same reason why me trading PCA was a bad value trade regardless of whether PCA figures out how to hit.

It’s funny to me that people think this is somehow a shot at David or the Mets. I was mocking myself and showing solidarity because I never decorated it either. In Boston, I had such a minimalist workspace that people joked that I was a consultant using a temporary space.

There were so many different combos discussed, so it's hard to remember the exact details. There was a bigger trade discussion involving McCann (paid down), Dom Smith, and another top Mets prospect to ChC with Contreras, Kimbrel, Baez, and Williams coming back.

I'm hoping to clarify what likely happened. The Mets most likely negotiated a contract that includes a much lower salary if he's in the minors, and he agreed to an advance consent to join the minor league club should he clear waivers.
To clarify for those who have wondered: Julio Teheran's $2.5 million contract was non-guaranteed.
So he gets a pro-rated portion based on days spent on the roster (four).
Thus, the Mets paid him about $54,000.

💯Some agents (👀) will define a player's value in a vacuum based on a false construct. But it often works because it only takes one owner to bite. GMs typically won't panic which is why an agent will go directly to the owner. Good owners redirect that back to the GM.
