According to Frank Sidebottom, Shaftesbury Avenue in Timperley was built as an emergency runway in the second world war. You know it was, it really was
The Golden Gate, Oxford Road Station Approach.
"My old man - a Daily Express man - knew all the dodgy clubs, and he said that this one was haunted by an assortment of 'hooks, crooks and comic singers'."
Lost one-offs.
Cyprus Tavern, Princess Street, Manchester.
A Manchester institution opened in 1967 by Takis Kitromilides, brother of Denos. In the '70s and '80s it was a late-night music and drinking venue for locals, students and football lads. Later the Granby before closure.
Someone from Ordsall will know who this gent is. Derby Street, Ordsall, early 1977. The big question, of course, is how many pints of Boddingtons has he just supped in the Little Derby?
Speaking of famous Manchester pub interiors, it would be remiss not to share these from 1989...
More to come, including amazing interior shots of some less heralded and long lost Manchester and Salford pubs.

"It’s an intimidating boozer that prides itself on a hard reputation; a place to meet tough guys and ex villains, many who have spent more time behind bars than even the most dedicated landlords - welcome to Billy Greens, Collyhurst"

Good research went into this from the Athletic. When we did a crawl a few years ago, after starting in the Claremont we found Hardy's Well and the Albert still hanging on

Blue Boar Hotel, Blue Boar Court, Manchester.
Succumbing to a combination of WWII and the Arndale Centre, the Blue Boar was hemmed in amongst the lost heart of old Manchester, which once resembled the Shambles of York, as photographed in late 1890s and early 1900s.
Going to do a series of ESTATE PUB galleries for each area of Manchester in a bit. First up for the A's will be Alkrington, Ancoats, Ardwick, Ashton-under-Lyne, Atherton and Audenshaw.
What used to stand on Piccadilly Gardens. Those us who fondly remember the sunken Piccadilly Gardens were wandering around and sitting in the old basement foundations of Manchester Infirmary

Those interested in Manchester pre-Arndale, buy Keith Warrender's book 'Lost District':
"A vibrant business & entertainment area... warehouses, workshops, ancient pubs, music venues, night clubs & coffee bars... photographs from the 50s & 60s before these streets were swept away"
Marcus Rashford
@MarcusRashford
is a national hero for all he is doing. When has one person done so much for so many in need? Legend - we won't forget this. If he handed back his MBE that would top it all off.
Table service is working like a treat in our local Holts boozer. 99% of punters masking as required and bar staff superb, being well tipped. The new normal aint that bad.
