Just heard I'm allowed to announce: my first ever thriller movie is currently shooting in the States. ๐ฅณ Thanks to
@ReelOneEnt
Hoping to have to images soon.
To the Doctor Who toy community, AFT Downloads and Action Figure Theatre websites will be closing from next week 24th Aug due to rising costs. If there are any sets you want, go and grab them now. Please spread the word

So this is my Nan. I found out today that when I was a kid she sent a bunch of my stories in an envelope to the BBC. She never heard back and was fuming. I think she'd be satisfied that I've written for 3 flagship Beeb shows. Cheers Nan x
Hi, I'm Phil.
Written for 3 top BBC soaps and my first thriller TV movie is due out SOON.
Want to write high-end drama (authored or in writersroom).
My sweet-spot is emotional, character-driven, often queer &/or female-led (dark)comedy drama.
Been told I'm good to work with.
Now it's been shot I guess I can't be sacked so I'm able to say Yay! I've written a Holby. It was a total joy of a job writing for some phenomenal characters.
Now I'm out of the sun I can tweet properly. Very proud to be part of this community standing with the
#screenwriterseverywhere
(I would tag people but twitter's being shit)
As a cast-off from the axing of Holby, my heart goes out to all my pals at
@BBCDoctors
and all the future writers and actors that now won't have that avenue into the industry. A real shame.
Sad myopic, self-centred people crowing about the BBC: "I only watch it for 2 things." What about the good it does for other people? Safe kids TV, radio, local news plus all the great homegrown telly. Would you want rid of the NHS cos you only use a bit of it?

OTD 30 years ago I came out to my parents and my life was truly able to begin. My Christmas wish is to live in a world where everyone can be accepted as themselves and no one feels forced to be something they're not in order to fit in. Merry Christmas โค
I was so excited about there being a soap set in London but I missed the first ep as it was half-term I'd been out with my Nan (in London!). But she would be super proud (as am I!) that I've been a tiny part of it's 39 year history. Happy birthday

Just watched the final cut of my made-for-tv thriller movie. I'm so pleased with it and can't wait to share it properly - but waiting to hear where it'll be on in the UK. Very odd to hear Americans speaking my lines.
The Doctor will see you now.
@CharacterToysUK
I was super proud to write for
@therealjomartin
on Holby, now I get to make up stories of her fighting daleks and cybermen.

It is sad news that Doctors will come to an end in December 2024; however, we would like to clarify that the decision to cancel the show is not based on low figures, as we have consistently enjoyed a strong viewership, and we are deeply grateful..
I've been suggested for a (non telly) writing gig that has me giddy with excitement. So grateful to be considered. Don't ask, don't guess. More news when I'm able.
#EastEnders
will be airing a special episode soon, highlighting Benโs struggle with his hearing. Jon Sen (Exec. Producer) has said โThis special point of view episode... allows the audience the opportunity to experience the world through Benโs eyes and ears." We can't wait.
This 'behind closed doors' attitude is anti gay. Don't worry, seeing same sex kissing won't make your kids anything they're not already except maybe open minded, accepting of others and a bit more tolerant than you seem to be.
@BBC
I am not anti gay I have gay friends..but i don't want my children seeing two men making out on tv before 9pm..... .it happens but why advertise it... even though it is now acceptable...i want my kids to be straight thankyou..keep the human race going..

Hey screenwriting twitter, I'm about to start collaborating on a new project with a mate from scratch. Never done it before, I always write alone. Any advice?

Just had a brilliant zoom with an amazing development editor. It's so empowering and energising when you're able to be relaxed enough to explain your idea and you feel that they get it. And to be inspired by their interrogation of that idea. I love my job.

It's my ep tonight (sorry, have I not mentioned? ๐) Even amid the drama and the medical crises, Holby's such a warm hug of a show. A real joy to write for. I'm really going to miss it. โค๏ธ
Had the absolute privilege of talking at

last weekend about my screenwriting journey. Great to give something back. And in front of so many friends. Thanks

So, remember this tweet from a few weeks back? Tweetmates, I got the gig. I was asked to write the afterword for the
@DWMtweets
special on modern era action figures. I'm still giddy. Thank you

People ask why this matters. It matters to me because it implies a certain privilege. Growing up, I never had holidays abroad. On the rare times we did have a holiday it was always in the UK.

It's been an up and down few days but it's ended on a couple of ladders. And that snake from earlier in the week? Turns out it might not have been so bad after all.
#awriterslife
Absolutely this. It's so easy to get bogged down with the rejections. I used to run a Monday Win thread that made writer mates mark out the highs of the past week. Maybe I should resurrect it for twitter.
Ten years ago I did Couch To 5k - couldn't even finish the first session! Haven't run for a couple of months due to DVT so today, I'm doing Couch To 5k again to regain my fitness, stamina and confidence. Nailed the first session.
Every time I speak to my parents (weekly) they ask "You still writing?" I still don't think they've grasped that it is literally my job right now. So yes, especially on
#NationalWritingDay
, yes I am writing. And very much loving it.
They used the pandemic as a means of funnelling millions of our money to their mates then while telling us to lockdown, they had Christmas parties and laughed at us. I cannot begin to articulate my anger and disgust at this bunch of self-centred, arrogant crooks.
#ToriesOut
The closest thing is Inside No9 but a new anthology show telling bold one-off stories that could be also be a training ground for new talent would be a great move.
Never understood why no drama controller hasnโt remade
#TalesOfTheUnexpected
- not only is it absolutely brilliant (currently re - running on Sky Arts & still ๐คฉ) the actors that they could get for each episode would be amazing - if any controllers are reading this - reboot it!
Gay kid gets beaten up by 3 kids. Man on twitter: maybe if he wasn't weak it wouldn't have happened. Teach him to defend himself. FUCK YOU. It actually takes a lot of strength to be yourself. Teach your kids not to be threatened by anything different.
Amazing night watching all 6 eps of The Quatermass Experiment recreated yards from where the original was filmed/broadcast 70 years ago.

๐จVital writer thread. I've been in exactly this, and very recently too. Support from friends has got me through. We need to not compare ourselves to others, keep the faith in our own journey and when we can't, have friends that remind us. Thank you

for sharing. โค๏ธ
Okay Iโm going pretty off-brand for a second because I want to offer some balance. Letโs be honest, when things arenโt going well it can be hard to see your peers flourishing when youโre feeling stuck. So, you want know how my writing year has been? ๐งต
There was SO much in this that chimed with me as a closeted gay kid with only the telly for a social life, a life-long Doctor Who fan who poured his heart and soul into home-made DW comics. I came to this TV writing game late and I've got a lot of catching up to do

Tom Baker's cameo appearance in The Day Of The Doctor marks his return to Doctor Who (outside of archive footage and Dimension In Time) for the first time since his final appearance as The Doctor in Logopolis (1981).

I'm sharing this but I haven't read it yet. I just can't face it. I did a trial for Doctors, it should've been my first commission (wasn't for various reasons) but it's a show I always loved. There needs to be more risk-taking, innovative, accessible shows like this, not fewer.
๐งตToday is the last day of filming

A show that has run for 24 years, employed thousands of people, produced more than 4,500 episodes, will call โcutโ for the final time. As a writer on the show for the past 19 years Iโm personally impacted along with hundreds 1/
I came out to my parents 30 years ago this year. It took a lot of courage. Even tho I was 98% sure they'd be fine with it (and spoilers, they were) that 2% chance of losing them was almost not worth the risk. To anyone coming out now, I send you courage โค
