If Biden delivers 2k checks per month for the duration of the pandemic, Democrats will win like FDR in the midterms. They will weld in a generation of voters.
I wish this was obvious to them.
I’m almost 50. A lifelong NYCer. My entire life, conservatives have claimed the city is dying, everyone fleeing, a crime ridden hell hole etc.
And yet:
I’m paying $16 to take an MTA train to Mamaroneck, a near-NYC suburb, right now. One way, peak.
Remind me again why
@GovKathyHochul
says it’s just too much to charge $15 for peak congestion pricing to drive a car into midtown Manhattan?
A thing I think is (kinda) insightful on Eric Adams:
If this was a progressive or even liberal Mayor, the msm would’ve done 1000 this-is-a-failure-of-progressive-governance stories already.
Since he’s a corporate dem, there’s none on his corporate centrist ideology as failure.
.
@GovKathyHochul
on MSNBC suggests that people "take a breath" and "give New Yorkers a break" regarding alternatives to congestion pricing.
"We'll find funding sources for all of the [MTA] projects that are important to be funded," by congestion pricing she says.
The
@Citibank
HQ is enshrouded by smoke from burning forests torched by climate change.
In the 7 years since the Paris climate agreement, Citi pumped $333 billion into coal, oil & gas.
The bank should stop financing our destruction. Stop all new fossil fuel expansion NOW.
I saw the
@NYCMayor
at city hall, got mad, and taped it. He was holding an event on migrant asylum, but it’s a fraud: he’s questioning the right to shelter and cutting housing funding.
I hate the blustering bs. There is a real world mr mayor, where real people get hurt by YOU.
I think it’s very important for NYCers especially to realize Eric Adams has a messiah complex. That means constant lies, bizarre policy, management problems… delusion and disconnect from reality. Read the thread.
"Thirty-something years ago, I woke up out of my sleep in a cold sweat," the mayor continued. "God spoke to my heart and said, 'You are going to be the mayor January 1, 2022.'"
Imagine slagging off groups like the
@sunrisemvmt
and
@PplsAction
because rotten federal law makes them form a super pac to get people involved for their candidate. No, that’s not the same as a big corporate dark money super pac. And Warren knows that.
I hear everyone talking about how we all want to overturn Citizens United because we want to end unlimited spending. Everyone on this stage except Amy and me is a billionaire or receiving help from Super PACs. Time to put your money where your mouth is.

NEW: Fired senior aide to Mayor Adams — Ahsan Chughtai — had his home raided in July, the same day the feds descended on City Hall official Mohamed Bahi.
Bahi resigned Monday and was indicted Tuesday on witness tampering and destroying evidence charges.
If Eric Adams was a progressive or liberal Democrat, we’d have had thousands of msm stories that voters have turned on left wing policies.
But he’s a corporate Democrat, so there aren’t any stories about corporate centrism failing. His unpopularity is treated as only about him.
It seems to me that Biden, Schumer and Jeffries are conceding that anytime there is a debt ceiling they will concede to cuts (a “freeze” which is a cut) except for the military. It’s nice how republicans get to control everything without electing people.
Literally as
@CynthiaNixon
announces her opposition to it, suddenly Cuomo decides to delay a key permit for the disastrous Williams gas pipeline, which we’ve been fighting for a long time!!! She’s just a candidate imagine her as governor
#TheCynthiaEffect
As
@CynthiaNixon
is in Rockaways to discuss climate change, and as speakers at her press conference discuss Williams pipeline, this 🔽 from DEC. It basically restarts the clock for the project.
If Eric Adams were a progressive, there would already have been 1000 msm items nattering on about a failure of progressive governance.
But he’s a corporate, carceral Mayor. The msm considers that to be normal, ideal. Thus, no stories about that ideology’s failure for NYC.
Of course of course of course the city’s business and wealthy elite prefers blatant corruption in City Hall to policies that might primarily benefit the public, not them.
Why anyone considers them to be respectable, decent or an example to follow boggles me. Corporate creeps.
After Dan Goldman bought a NY congressional seat on a river of family money and connections, we’re now seeing an even vastly larger display of wrecking small-d “democracy” via buying a seat. By AIPAC and Latimer. White men against progressive candidates of color is a big part.
👀The turnover in Adams’ City Hall reflects huge problems: mismanagement, corruption, incompetence. The 3K/UPK/child care mismanagement just on its own should be a massive scandal.
Hochul’s pose is weird & politically dumb on multiple levels.
I want to explore the absurd idea that city hall can be made functional and “cleaned up” under an indicted Mayor.
Here’s a few reasons having an NYC Mayor matters, ‘cause right now we effectively don’t have one 🧵
@jbouie
💯 People cannot believe that any person would advocate for the things that are in a bog standard Republican’s legislative agenda.
It would help a lot if media covered issues, policy and impact, not primarily the horse race when it comes to politics. “The stakes, not the odds.”
It’s darkly amusing that Hochul’s going through this pretense of cleaning up the Adams admin when it’s the Mayor himself who is brazenly corrupt and under indictment.
Every day Eric Adams does more damage to New York. Can we please skip to the part where he resigns?
Sources tell us Mayor Adams pushed Schools Chancellor David Banks to resign earlier than initially planned at least in part to satisfy Gov. Hochul's demand for him to clean house amid various corruption probes.

For those of you NYCers who aren’t gossipy insider types, you might like to know that rumors are flying Adams indictments are coming Monday.
Who knows? Not me!
But I do know: Eric Adams is doing so much damage. Every day. Get him out!
The NYC msm loathed de Blasio, who had major accomplishments. They flamed him.
Eric Adams is a corporate democrat and Black. He’s out of central casting for what centrist elites want.
But he’s obviously corrupt. Plus Trump-like, bizarre behavior. No major accomplishments. Q:🧵
Major credit where it’s due: this
@nytimes
story documents that the corporate world looks the other way on naked corruption as long as it gets what it wants.
Worth reading!
Top Adams advisor Ingrid Lewis-Martin going on a radio show and saying, in effect, sure we stole a little and broke the law a little, but not that much is wild.
It speaks to the brazen nature of it all. Also, wow, that’s really not smart.
I've done extensive electoral work in only 2 states: Florida and New York. In both places, the Democratic party machinery is run by and for corrupt insiders who sabotage effective electoral work in service of patronage and corporate money. I am not exaggerating.
That Dem turnout problem in FL? Yes, it was real - and massive. Luckily for Dems, it didn’t really materialize anywhere else.
Between Dems crushing competitive OH/MI/NH/PA/TX House races but dragging in FL/NY, this is the most uneven midterm I’ve ever seen.
A political star is born and she's a young progressive latina congresswoman from bernie-land who stands for racial, gender and economic justice. this is INCREDIBLE. Go
@Ocasio2018
now let's take out
@NYGovCuomo
and take back NYS from wall street and real estate industries
It’s sad how the deep blue New York state assembly and senate - both with Democratic supermajorities - don’t override Hochul when she vetoes their bills.
What’s the point of us achieving super-majorities when they’re so timid?
@dave_brown24
@mattberg33
@reporterjoe
Ugh. Israel is committing war crime after war crime. It’s not at all in line with USA and international law, so Biden has to willfully ignore laws to keep the arms and other support flowing to Israel. Meanwhile he talks a huge game about laws, following them, and democracy.
With the climate crisis so present, I’m having a harder time mentally with Democratic elected officials who talk about climate but are afraid of confronting the real estate or fossil fuel industry.
You, also, are killing us.
If Eric Adams was a progressive - not a corporate democrat - there would have already been like 10 nytimes stories about how voters were turning on progressive ideology 🙄
Construction underway of a 💯 fossil-free 44 story tall residential project in Brooklyn, 100 Flastbush Avenue. No gas furnace. No gas boiler.
NYC enacted an end to gas in new construction in December.
@GovKathyHochul
should enact
#GasFreeNY
for the state!
Hey progressives in NYC: please don’t overthink this.
We need ONE candidate for Mayor to rally around.
We lost last time because we didn’t rally to one candidate (until too late).
As a result, Eric Adams is Mayor. We’ve seen this movie before.
ONE CANDIDATE.🧵
I did a lot of Twitter nudging and some in-person, too, of
@ReynosoBrooklyn
@jessicaramosqns
@zellnor4ny
to urge ONE of them to run for Mayor. All great!
Myrie answered the bell, first. That matters. A lot.
Now, another progressive entering would create disunity. We need unity!
I’m in a classic NYC apartment: so hot and overheated in winter they have to keep a window open to cool it down.
Local Law 97 will make building owners reduce this sort of ridiculous waste, usually via simple upgrades.
LL97 cuts pollution, creates jobs and reduces utility bills
Holy cow!

Yeah I’m a Berner, and I do not buy this. She stood up against Wall Street and Obama... that’s for real and not easy. Sure, she’s not as left or consistent as Bernie but who is? I’d be very happy with her as D nominee, even if I strongly prefer Bernie.
@nychange
@MikeBloomberg
Some details on Bloomberg’s climate record:
First, as a massive funder he poured $$$ into campaigns to stop coal plants.
That’s great, except he was also pro-fracking and pro-gas. NYS, like many state, switched one fossil fuel for another. /1
You gotta hand it to
@GovKathyHochul
: she’s unified absolutely everyone in climate world locally and nationally against her agenda. Not easy to get us all on the same page, but gosh darn it, she’s done it! 🙄
Is a Governor handing out a $900 million dollars of public money to a billionaire for a new NFL stadium which her husband stands to benefit from financially is too dry and complex a story for major NY media outlets to cover?
“When you step back and think about it, it’s really some crazy shit... how can we allow 30,000 people a year to die and 500,000 to go bankrupt because they can’t pay their medical bills?” we need Medicare for All! Go BernieSanders
#Bernie2020
Democrats have faced brutal midterm climates and slim margins in Congress before. But the current iteration of the Democratic Party has rarely, if ever, been on such shaky ground with young people.
Hochul is a disaster. We're (
@nychange
) looking for great pro bono counsel to sue her and the state to enforce the law she's blowing off. NYS missed the law's main deadline, which Hochul blithely sailed past on Jan 1. Ongoing damage to the state and our members.
Hochul seems to cast doubt that climate goals are legit bc they were set before the pandemic
"The goals were based on information from that time. ... We follow the law. But that was pre pandemic, that was pre supply chain disruptions"
There’s zero chance this item will explore the role of elite media - especially including the
@nytimes
- in fueling this right wing witch-hunt.
The NYT’s “just asking questions” stories about health care are critical validators/accelerant.
I can’t handle Hochul’s stupidity. For a while she looked like she was reasonably committed to getting congestion pricing done, but she’s so over sensitive to right wing threats. So dumb.
This thing where she gets elected as a Democrat but then acts like her real mandate is to be a moderate Republican from 2005 SUCKS.
If the voters wanted a Republican, they’d vote for one. They voted for a Democrat. But she doesn’t believe in it; she is herself right of center.
INBOX:

's office announces another 5% budget cut across all city agencies, citing concern about "financial disruption" from the migrant crisis.
"The administration will seek to minimize disruption to programs and services, and there will not be layoffs," City Hall says.
SNL nails Eric Adams:
“Do you want a Mayor who flies in coach?!?!”
Actually, yes I do. I want a Mayor who flies in coach.
Check out the skit, it’s 😂 link below
This is the daily work of building a movement: a thank you text to donors. Seems simple and obvious, but winning (and losing campaigns) often don’t bother after the election.
@nycDSA
is building a base!
💯A basic problem for Adams is he & the NYC msm generated a crime panic, putting him into office, but now he wants msm to sell a lower crime narrative. He’s the story now, but even more: that doesn’t get clicks, sell copy or further a rw agenda by panicking ppl. They won’t do it.
This not shade to Jeff but it is a little depressing that media mostly ignoring the "subway is safe, city is safe" stats and stories, after going crazy hoovering up the slightest "city is dangerous!" stories
Uhhh NO that literally hasn’t been decided. The Governor’s trying to induce the legislature to go along and Heastie is clearly willing. If he wasn’t, she’d have to back down.
Rank and file assemblymembers like my rep
@JoAnneSimonBK52
should make this a NO on a shady bailout.
“What happens with congestion pricing think that’s been decided already - the delay,”
@CarlHeastie
.
“Your only choices are to raise revenue.”
“Either you have to do that now..Or sometime between now and January.”
The non profit advocacy complex. What a world it is.
Bottom line: many groups act like they represent people power or at least public opinion. But most can’t organize lunch for 2. The pols learn they can disregard.
If your group doesn’t organize people, what is its point?
I think NY media should interrogate their hard core both sides-ing of Cuomo and de Blasio’s fighting.
The whole time it was clear: de Blasio might be inept but Cuomo was both a psycho and inept. In all these years I think I can only recall one journalist calling it straight.
Nooooo not Jesse Hamilton! Noooooo nobody could have foreseen or suspected he might not be fully on the up and up.
Seriously, tho, I’m glad to see more cronies under a microscope. Richly deserved, and once they start to look…
NEW: Jesse Hamilton, an ex-state senator in charge of NYC's real estate portfolio, had his phone seized by investigators at Kennedy Airport at the same time as they took top Adams adviser Ingrid Lewis-Martin's devices.

It makes me extremely happy to see Eric Adams going down. That man has done so much damage. Rikers horrors, school cuts, wrecking 3k, and he's also on the verge of severely weakening the city's landmark climate/jobs law. So much more! RESIGN
I think it’s time for someone to write an explainer on what happens if/when Eric Adams resigns or is removed from office, the city’s rules for succession, and how long and under what circumstances a special election is called. How does all that work?
His orientation is just bedrock of what the media believes is appropriate. A left-ish deviation from what they consider to be acceptable would be relentlessly attacked. See: de Blasio, Bill.
For the most part, they don’t even see this. Your average editor/producer/reporter doesn’t think they’re expressing any ideology at all. Or, more precisely, that they are really trying to minimize any “bias”. 🙄
But the kid gloves for adams/bloomberg versus de Blasio illuminates
He was hungover and MIA. This kind of shameless in-your-face lying is a serious challenge to reporters and a democracy. It’s like Trump, at the nyc level.
.
@NYCMayor
is in The Hole in Queens, an area that tends to flood during storms.
Asked if he wishes he would've done something differently before or on Friday, Adams says he wishes he would've "mobilized" other elected official to join him on the streets during the storm.
What are these numbers?
Iowa - 55%
South Dakota - 52%
Kansas - 45%
Oklahoma - 41%
North Dakota - 34%

Hey right wingers:
we ARE coming after your gas boiler, your gas furnace and yes, your gas stove.
Just like we came after your lead paint and your child labor and your coal stoves.
@EoinHiggins_
In the past few months, I’ve realized I was sold an image of Warren that wasn’t warranted. I still respect her legislative and political work, but she’s got problems telling the truth.
It’s really cold. I think it’s cruel that
@NYCMayor
has cops ejecting homeless people from subways, where it’s warm. People need housing not this meanness for political points.
I'm seeing a bunch of well-intentioned people concerned about covid pointing out that ventilation is important. Yes, it is. Buildings should have proper ventilation. Also crazy-ass energy waste isn't necessary for that. Overheating to then need to open a window isn't... great.
Reporters and editors keep failing to disclose that the climate impact analysis they cite - including lately of the federal bill - comes from entities that are funded by the oil & gas industry. Outrageous.
The real problem is rising, out of control housing costs in a city that’s so popular, vast numbers of people want to live here.
The fact that rents are famously high does nothing to change the conservatives nobody wants to live in NYC myth.
They’re frightened, dumb racists.
Ryan Carson turned his passion into purpose. He advocated tirelessly for others, and his giving spirit was a buoy to all. His murder is unthinkable, and the NYPD won't rest until we bring him to justice.
I'm praying for all who knew and loved Ryan.
Eric Adams is going down and it’s not because he’s a corporate Dem, but being pay for play in policy decisions is how he rolls. That may be legal - the system with super pac, lobbying networks and jobs etc - but it’s also corrupt as hell.
In my view, the anti-Eric Adams base is now quite a lot larger than the Adams base.
I know a lot of people who would crawl over broken glass to vote for any opponent (other than maybe Cuomo).
Eric Adams had time to record a video message for a school-sponsored competition for my daughter’s and other schools this past weekend.
He hasn’t even called the Neely family, tho. Gee, I wonder why?
Midtown traffic locked up and blocking pedestrians, too. You can hear an ambulance trying to get through.
Gee if only there was some sort of public policy action ready to go that could reduce traffic, pollution and fund mass transit all at once?
#CongestionPricingNow
💯 agree Adama is toast. There are political insiders who are mistakenly thinking Adams can hold out and not resign. I don’t believe that is correct. Hochul will have to push him out, even if he’s a political and ideological ally. Sooner or later he will resign. I think sooner.
