I would like to share some PERSONAL NEWS: This will be my last week working at the

Women and girls vanished from streets, classrooms and offices on Monday- in a haunting echo of violent killings of women that take place in Mexico daily. My story on an unprecedented, nationwide strike of women saying: Enough.
Miami police chief Art Acevedo was officially fired Thursday following a feud with powerful city commissioners. "Unfortunately, the city was not ready for reform,” he said in an interview. My story tonight:

Central American women are fleeing brutal violence from boyfriends, spouses-arriving at the U.S. border seeking asylum only to be turned away. Others are trapped in limbo under Trump-era policies. My story:
For many Americans, watching their loved ones participate in Capitol's riots forced a personal reckoning with right-wing political extremism. "It felt like a death, honestly,” said one woman who reported her mom to the FBI. Our story: w

I had no idea that one of the world's first suicide hotlines was inspired by a teen girl who killed herself when she got her period. She didn't know what it meant and thought it was a divine punishment. Gifting this article because it's mindblowing.

A day in Mexico without women-activists call for a daylong national strike in their latest form of protest against rising violence vs. women. The spark of social change has been lit as mexicans wake up from apathy, activists say. Our story today:
After the shooting, Uvalde's residents are coping w/ the aftershocks of trauma: children are scared to go outside. Parents suffer from survivor's guilt. "This whole town is heartbroken," a counselor told me. My story:
In the paradise city of Rio de Janeiro, a shadow force made up of active & retired police officers extort citizens, traffics drugs and kills at will. The militias are also more powerful than ever-controlling 60%of the city's territory. My story:

“It is unthinkable to fall asleep on the bus, no matter how long the commute is,” said Lucia Camacho from Ecatepec, one of the most dangerous places in Mexico to be a woman. “That is a man’s privilege.”

His story offers a rare glimpse into Mexico´s underworld of criminals causing the terrible violence that is tearing the country apart-and the lengths to which the authorities will go to stop them.
It is important to underline “sicarios” are both a cause and a result of a broken justice system- key players who thrive in a world of hyper violence where fear is currency- and a numbed society inured to violence.
In Mexico, teachers in rural villages, poor farmers & elderly members of remote communities will receive the covid vaccine first. Experts say it's politics over science. For others it is a reparation for historic injustices.

Ahead of the women's march on Sunday & strike on Monday, I believe it is opportune to share this story I did 3 yrs ago on a counseling group in CDMX that helps men 'unlearn' machismo and re-engineer their masculinity.

Before he was infected with the coronavirus, Pablo Trujillo wore a snorkeling mask, which he adapted with a ventilator filter for protection. He spent 12 days in the I.C.U. in Mexico City where he works, and during that time, 7 of his colleagues died.
Some news: I will be in Brazil for the next two months covering the elections and all things politics! My first story: With the election just weeks away, president Bolsonaro is running out of time to persuade Brazilians to let him keep his job.
The pandemic has brought not only the loss of countless lives, but also loss of tradition. For Hispanic teens girls it meant missing out on their quinceañera parties-a cultural milestone. Now some families are deciding the party must go on. My story:
The
#MeToo
movement in Mex receives a jolt as a surge of women speak out of abuse, harassment and mistreatment- an entrenched problem in the country. My story:
Latino disenchantment with democrats has grown in recent years. In Arizona, many latino voters see the economy and religious beliefs as core reasons why they want Trump reelected. My story:
In a country well accustomed to daily drumbeat of bloodshed, the horrific deaths of a woman and a 7 year-old girl have shocked the nation. The widespread outcry is testing the leadership of president López Obrador. Our story today:

Oxfam found world's richest nations have bought up more than half of the future supply of covid-19 vaccines. It estimates that even if all 5 trials for vaccines are successful, 61 percent of the world’s population would not have access to it until 2022. Good day y'all!
After taking strict precautions for over 18 moths, Arizona ban on mask mandates exposed this doctor's 10 year-old daughter in only 3 schooldays. My story:
Daniel García has spent 16 years in prison without a fair trial or a sentence, trapped in the legal trappings of Mexico's old archaic judicial system and new laws that have to failed to help him. He's hardly alone. My story:
Miami's star police chief is at the center of a political drama laced with communist Cuba and Cold War references that has put his short tenure on the line. My story:

In 2018 I wrote about Daniel Garcia who was wrongfully accused of murder and spent 17 years in prison without a trial or sentence. His case shed light on some of the most perverse vices of Mx's judicial system. Mexico will now be judged in an intl court for this case (IACHR.)
