Young radio presenters - Start with your audience & work backwards - Who are they & what do they want to hear? You need light & shade, a beginning middle & end to every link & a reason for the audience to engage & interact with you. Here's a handy guide;
I don't care who the MP for Peterborough is as long they are elected in a free & fair election & do their best for the city.The more I read of the shady goings on 11 days ago the more it concerns me - postal voting needs to be urgently looked at - why so many?
@BethRigby
Yet we have a BBC Chair that gives money to the Tories, holds parties for them and facilitates an £800,000 loan for the man who gave him the job - dark days
Peterborough is virtually bankrupt, services are being slashed & council tax raised.Yet those in charge have pushed through a rise in councillor allowances - not a good look right now. How can it be justified?
@peterboroughtel
@PTmarkedwards
Person in charge of local radio seems slightly surprised that regionalising and cutting listener’s favourite presenters impacts on listening figures 🤦

Should you wish to grin and giggle and divorce yourself from the madness for half an hour - click the link and press play 😜😜😜😜😜 you can also leave a message on the anchor fm app
I feel like a cultural atom bomb has been aimed at our city - Government has to step in and help - We cannot allow Theatres, libraries and leisure centres to close
Don't forget folks the petition to remove Peterborough MP, Fiona Onasanya, starts on Tuesday at 7am. People eligible to vote should receive letters soon, if you have not got them yet.
Farage, Mogg, Gallowway et al - a bunch of chancers who view Peterborough as an opportunity - what do they know of it's needs, issues and requirements? This city needs a local MP, who knows, cares and understands the place.
25 years ago today on a gorgeous, hot summers day at Orton Hall, a young lady agreed to marry a daft young lad with a big gob & even bigger dreams - We have had many ups & many downs but here we stand, together still.Where have the years gone?
In order to raise the L rate (laughter rate) I am starting bad joke Friday;
Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
Little old lady.
Little old lady who?
I didn’t know you could yodel.🤣
A donation from Total Plant Corby for 'Our Paul'.....Whose directors are also directors of Glenrowan Homes, the company chosen to build the 10 storey apartments in Northminister, where the market used to be. You might recall that the land was sold very quickly last year.
I am so sick of hearing about bloody Love island on the radio - Presenters, instead of trying to jump on the bandwagon & glorifying its message of cheap sex, why not do some journalism & investigate the effect that this lowest common denominator crap is having on our youth?
Whatever your views on royalty today is a day to remember a person who dedicated their whole life to the service of this country, a person who put her country above self interest, unlike many who lead us today.
Rest in peace your Majesty and thank you for your service
Crisis at the Beeb this morning. The people of Ely fuming as the beeb reported their library was to be sold. Of course their library wasn’t being sold…. Somebody got Ely and Eye mixed up - When experience leaves the building 🤦
RIP the BBC in Peterborough - So, so sad - End of the road for studios where we made some great radio, holding those in power to account, winning awards, building & entertaining record audiences, in a city which is underserved by the media - We will always have the memories 😔
After yesterday's fully deserved plaudits The BBC should be hastily re thinking any plans for cuts or the regionalising of programmes on BBC Local radio.
It's official, I will be back behind a mic again on Good Friday 2-6pm, on BBC Radio Suffolk.
Sometimes you have a to draw a line under the past to move forward & that is what I have done.
I have missed radio every day since I stopped and I cant wait to get back on air.
It’s polling day and time to vote for many in Peterborough
I don’t presume to tell you how to vote but I personally will be voting for change - All I will say is please vote!
I am reliably informed that the head of BBC Local radio, Chris Burns, has just told staff, TWICE; "I don't expect local radio audiences to be upset by these cuts’ Astonishing; Management, as usual, completely out of touch with the audience
Stand down now
@FionaOnasanyaMP
you are an embarrassment to the city of Peterborough - you have been found guilty of a crime and you are no longer fit to represent the city - Retweet if you agree.
The gravy train
@paulbristow79
??? Take it from somebody who knows, this is ‘dead cat’ bullshit aimed at deflecting criticism from a bunch of people who are unfit to govern - I am not political but I am so angry with this attack on the BBC I may even stand against them myself
Instead of fracking, which will take years & might not be safe - Why are we not urgently sticking solar panels on all relevant public buildings & demanding that all new homes have them? Why are we not urgently retro fitting insulation on old homes that are viable?
Tonight I am reminded by former producer & great friend
@BenoitStevenson
that tonight 13 years ago we (& I mean we) won a gold Gillard award for best presenter in BBC Local radio - Frank must be turning in his grave as how management are now destroying it
Surely they could think outside the box and get sponsorship from companies in the city to keep Peterborough looking colourful.Where is the thought, where are the ideas, does anybody have an ounce of ingenuity?
I am pleased to say that I have been contacted personally by the Director General, Tim Davie, who has read this.Hopefully something will come of it. via
@wordpressdotcom
Peterborough Positive 😳
John Lewis gone - city centre shopping dead
Nightime economy - almost dead
East of England Showground - finished, millions lost to the city from countless shows, gigs etc
The council are asleep at the wheel as the city goes down the pan.Tell me I am wrong
It's not very brave to block somebody and then tweet about them is it?
Truth is that my company has done work for both Labour & the Tories since leaving The BBC - seems pretty balanced to me. My own politics are right down the middle and I just want the best for the city.
Tonight I am being honoured with a civic award for that work and I will take that as a recognition of success. It has been a honour and who knows, there may be more to come...sssssshhhhh!
Happy Monday everyone - I am investigating fraudulent pop artists today - It has been brought to my attention that the Thompson Twins were not related, Dr Alban had no formal medical training and that Prince was not connected to royalty - are there are any more out there?
I have had plenty of time to reflect and read all thoughts of hugely respected radio experts like
@DavidLloydRADIO
and I concur….these painful local BBC cuts makes no sense, are so sad and seemingly unnecessary….

I have today written personally to each of the 12 directors on the BBC Board asking them to intervene on BBC Local given what I believe are Charter breaches in this process and its implementation.
Hearing that the BBC had a big meeting with newsmakers in Peterborough last week to try & work out how to get more news about the city on their online site - trouble is they forgot to invite most of the news making organisations in the city 🤦
No organisation can survive losing all this experience & knowledge at once - it is utterly bonkers, unless you are purposely running something down of course.Imagine Pep letting all of players & coaches go at Man City & replacing them with kids

1) It's my last day
@BBC
today. After 23 years producing radio (&some TV & online) my job is disappearing and I've decided to leave. I've learned a lot and I'm sad to say goodbye. But I don't agree with the changes or the way they've taken place. It's been a pleasure to
Yesterday in Peterborough City centre.Our much lauded fountains haven't worked properly for months & on the hottest day of the year they were off.If they are not fit for purpose do something else with this embarrassing barren concrete wasteland. Show some vision
@PeterboroughCC
Hottest day in the modern history of
#Peterborough
. No fountains, little shade, no greenery, no trees; just a great big heat sink. Environment city, my arse.
A shocking and purposeful loss of talent - Local radio will never be the same again.I am ashamed to say that a man I used to call a friend is in charge of this destruction.
Staff
@bbc
LR spent last Christmas under threat of redundancy.This Christmas many have been forced out,fired,or taken VR,and for the 1st time many local stations have NO local shows at all. And yet MORE mangers have been appointed to manage less staff. Shameful isn’t it ?
Beautiful send off and celebration of Charlie Swift’s life this morning at the Salvation Army Citadel in Peterborough
There will never be another like him
I know what it is like to be suspended & it stings - I was taken off air by the BBC in 2017 for making a film about homelessness for the council, despite being freelance
The ‘Management’ just simply changed their minds - it’s one of the reasons I walked away from a job I loved
Exclusive!Cash strapped City Council have sold the Town Hall to Wetherspoons in deal thought to be worth £7.5m.The pub chain will turn it into a 30 room hotel & have enough space for 1000 drinkers & diners, making it one of their largest venues in the country.What do you think?
So sad to see speedway leaving our city - spent many great nights there for the BBC - Crump, Sullivan etc will always be in my head - the economic loss of this and the Showground events must be huge
🆕📅
We will complete our league programme at home to King’s Lynn on Thursday (Sep 14).
However, it will not be the final fixture at the East of England Arena as we have confirmed plans to stage a Farewell Meeting on a date to be confirmed.

Peterborough Cathedral is for everyone....even giraffes, elephants and lions! One of our favourite pictures of the year from last night's NHS charity carols concert at the Cathedral, which recognised the incredible work that all NHS staff undertake throughout the year.
On this day in 1980 Hereward Radio was launched & the city at last had a voice. It was the station that gave me a chance in 1990 & where I learnt my trade - It was an integral part of the city and we had such fun working there. Sadly, kids today won't have that same opportunity.
Please vote in Thursdays local elections. Please vote for people who are positive and prepared to work together for the good of the city and the people in it, not themselves. Some wards are decided by just a few votes so please make yours count.
Today is a sad day and a happy day for me, sad that we are saying goodbye to a legend in Tommy Robson and happy to have known him and be lucky enough to call him a friend - I will be saying goodbye for the last time at London road this afternoon
Best wishes to
@jeremysallis
for his final radio show today
@BBCCambs
- It’s tough to let go of something you love doing but sometimes you have to move on - Our radio chats at 11.45 every morning remain some of my fondest radio memories - go well sir 😉
Lady in Costa just now, leans over, 'Are you the DJ from 5th Avenue? I remember your smile, we had so many great nights in there.'
Proper cheered me up. After all these years, to know you have brought a bit of joy into somebody's life is a lovely, precious thing

The absolute state of this scene.
Martha Hancock being harassed by soulless photographers outside her home at the behest of national editors foaming for a hint of emotional distress.
