I've seen multiple a international lawyers say that a controlled demolition of a university by the IDF that they were in control of isn't a war crime because it *might* be used by Hamas in the future after they leave. By that logic no targeting of infrastructure is ever unlawful

This is a terrible suggestion. This ties up court resources and will have no bearing on the case (it won't be admissible). Please don't tie the ICJ administrative resources and make it harder for the court to actually address the genocide being perpetrated against Palestinians

I respect the hell out of @juliettemm but I disagree with this statement. The UNSC was never intended to enforce international law, especially since it was created to operate above int law. It was created to prevent another state of global total war 1/10

The structural inability of the UNSC to act in this space is a long term problem for the enforcement of international law. But it says nothing - NOTHING - about the importance or binding nature of those laws. And it certainly doesn't mean they're "not law".

I just had a colleague tell me that our arguments and disagreements over foundational points of legal theory helped them refine and clarify their thinking. I honestly don't think I can ever receive a nicer or more uplifting comment on my scholarship than that

Academic selfie: in between a maze of meetings it is time to do final checks on Queer Encounters and Queer Engagements with International Law with @claerwenohara before we send them to publishers. Feels like yesterday had the @ANZSIL_GSIL #QIL2 workshop edition

@juliettemm Okay so this is where I take issue with your complaint. Methodology isn't a "why" statement it is a "how" statement. It is literally "how did I conduct this research to reach these conclusions". It doesn't need to be long, it doesn't need to be pedantic in detail ... 1/

I'm really excited to announce that I've been invited to write an entry on Queer Approaches to International Adjudication for @MPI_Luxembourg and their encyclopedia on international procedural law! I'm still conceptualising but it is going to fun to write

And I have successfully managed to make a new batch of soap (vanilla caramel and orange blossom) ... and I have looked at my hobbies (making soap, blacksmithing, archery, kickboxing, and cooking) and I am unsure if I'm a doomsday prepper or a renaissance woman 🤷

I'm having a bad day with my back and need my cane so am walking slowly at the moment. Had some people walk past me and while they were passing me they said "why are people who can't walk properly even allowed here?" I am incandescent with this casual ableism
