Not a fan of this.
Gavi is 19 and has played almost 8300 senior mins, for club and country, over the last 3 years. That’s more than ninety full 90s.
All due respect, but Spain are playing Georgia and Cyprus, I’m sure they can find someone to cover for Gavi in these qualifiers.
All-action bulldozer, who can play every midfield role (6/8/10) without a significant drop-off.
Unbelievable ball-winner, good on the half-turn, scores goals (long/short range), excellent set-piece taker, relentless presser, great in both transitional situations. Truly unique.
Managing Brisbane Roar is probably harder than managing most Premier League clubs and it has nothing to do with the difference of quality between the leagues/teams.
“Where would they finish in the PL table?”. What the hell does that have to do with the difficulty of the job?!
One of the worst kept secrets in Australian football. 😅
This is massive and I’m happy for Nestor, but £3m is honestly a daylight robbery. He’d cost 20 times more if he was Brazilian/Argentinian.
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Bayern are closing in on deal to sign 17 year old talent Nestory Irankunda, here we go! 🌟
2006 born winger on the verge of joining Bayern in 2024 from Australian side Adelaide United.
Understand fee verbally agreed is £3m fixed fee plus add-ons.
THREAD ⚽️
Scouting report: Riley McGree 🇦🇺
- Amidst all the rumors that
@McgreeRiley
is likely to join
@CelticFC
, I decided to do a quick report on him in order to show fans what he is about and what they can expect from him. 🍀
Hope you enjoy it!
Celtic fans who underrate Mooy just because he's 31 and not playing in a top 5 league are going to be in for a treat.
He may not be a guaranteed starter in this Hoops midfield, but technically, he's as good as anyone in the SPL and is capable of winning games singlehandedly.
Just a friendly reminder that 19 players out of the 26 in this
@Socceroos
squad have played or are playing in the
@aleaguemen
.
The ALM is a good league, it just needs the belief and support from the fans. Hope people understand that after the performances at the WC.
As reported by
@mrandrewmoon
, Jacob Farrell is close to securing a move to Portsmouth. 🇦🇺
The 21-year old LB is an intelligent and versatile player who offers great defensive awareness, line-breaking passing, and ball-carrying skill.
He would be good value for money.
(THREAD)
@RyanSoccerAA
Yeah, guys like Radja and Lampard are probably extreme examples. But having midfielders that can perform at their best, regardless of the midfield composition, that’s invaluable.
Viktor Gyökeres is already one of the best 9s in Europe.
CV ≠ ability
His skillset/body-type is so reminiscent of early Fernando Torres. He’s very strong, both on the ground and in the air, but also very agile and nimble in tight spaces.
The emerging reports that Championship clubs have shown interest in Sam Silvera don’t surprise me one bit.
Silvera’s had an excellent season, but I reckon THAT performance in the GF, in particular, is what raised his stocks substantially and caught the eyes of European clubs. 🧵
People comparing Kieran McKenna to Graham Potter just because they’re both young and British has to be some of the most lazy “analysis” I’ve seen on this platform.
At least try to do your due diligence before commenting on a topic.
@Vertikalspiel13
Think you’re overcomplicating something that isn’t that complicated. Chance creation is one of the main things that playmakers are supposed to do. He’s capable of making things happen via creative passing or dribbling. That is playmaking.
These are the heat-maps of three of the best and most well-rounded strikes on the planet (including Harry Kane!). The other one is Jude Bellingham’s.
Can you notice the difference?!
This is no midfielder. A good player but a midfielder is people like Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Toni Kroos etc who run the channels, pick the ball up from deep and progress it from deep positions. This is a striker and there’s NOTHING wrong with that
Estêvão Willian is truly sensational.
Today’s the first time I got the opportunity to watch him properly and he really is something special.
No need for complicated terms and analysis. That’s the definition of a Tier 1 talent.
Spurs fans going mad over this must be the most hypocritical thing ever.
They’ve been whining about these cultural issues for years, but when the only man at the club who can do something about it addresses them, they’re calling for his head?!
MARCO TILIO to Celtic (🧵)
@MelbourneCity
⏭️
@CelticFC
Celtic have officially secured the signing of Marco Tilio (2001), one of the brightest and most exciting young Australian talents, paying an A-League record-breaking fee for his signature.
By far the best coach in the A-League Men. And the gap is pretty big.
Monty’s the type of coach that can literally transform a club, if given enough time.
Talent ID, player development, attacking football, says the right things. He is brilliant.
Nestor’s strengths are clear to see, but people that just started paying attention should also hear about his weaknesses.
He’s very raw tactically, his positioning OOP is poor, and he can be wasteful in possession. Has also shown a bit of hot temper, which he needs to improve.
🚨🔴 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 | Bayern Munich are closing on on a £3m + add-ons deal for Nestory Irankunda (17) from Adelaide United, reports
@FabrizioRomano
! 🇦🇺/🇹🇿
And here is why... ⬇️
Without overcomplicating it, Riley McGree and Jordan Bos are simply too good to be sitting on the bench.
Two of the very few game-changers in this Socceroos squad.
SCOUTING THREAD 🧵
According to media outlets in Bulgaria, Dominik Yankov (AM/23) has agreed a deal to join MLS side
@cfmontreal
, for $2m. 🇧🇬🇨🇦
Yankov is one of Bulgaria’s most exciting young players and a profile that the country rarely produces. But what makes him special?
Álvaro Vallés is a keeper that would suit Maresca’s style a lot, in my opinion.
Similar to Hermansen, Vallés almost plays as a CB in buildup for Las Palmas. He had the most touches outside of the box from a GK in LaLiga this season and is very good at sweeping.
Really composed
Calem Nieuwenhof seems set to join
@JamTarts
from WSW, as reported by
@RBTVWSW
today.
Another talented Aussie midfielder heading to Edinburgh, following an outstanding campaign in the A-League Men’s competition. (Short 🧵)
Nothing to see here, just a photo of North Queensland Fury’s squad from the 10/11 season in a Bulgarian newspaper in the year of 2024.
So incredibly random.
Hi guys 👋
If any Australian club is looking for a scout/recruitment analyst with extensive knowledge of the European landscape, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
I’m open to one-off projects, part-time commitments, and even internship programs. DMs open.
RTs appreciated.
Honestly, if Marcus Younis ends up at Aberdeen FC, that would be an absolute coup for them, regardless of the fee.
One of Australia’s most talented prospects and I sincerely hope he gets regular game time, regardless of where he ends up.
His ceiling is incredibly high.
Michael Olise is a special player. Modern-day playmaker.
He’s actually extremely similar to Hakim Ziyech, in terms of profile, but more technically proficient and physically (a lot) stronger.
Chelsea are getting a game-changer, for what could prove to be peanuts in this market.
The A-League doesn’t do anywhere near enough advertising during pre-season.
It’s the longest off season in the sport, there’s plenty of time to do interviews, articles, and simply promote the ALM.
Outside of transfers, it’s been just reposting of old goals and nothing else.
I hate getting dragged into Ballon d’Or conversations, due to obvious reasons, but this pick is pretty outrageous.
Arguably, the best player on the planet, based on current form, and easily one of the most influential performers at the WC. He should’ve been in and around top 3.
🚨🦇 Valencia have presented project and loan proposal to Bryan Zaragoza to join from Bayern.
Negotiations ongoing, as reported by
@marcosbenito9
.
Several clubs are interested and trying but Valencia are already pushing.
I hate being that guy, but this Socceroos midfield can really use a young, creative, half-Peruvian-half-Australian, midfielder that plays in the UK, for example.
I’m a bit surprised that clubs are just now starting to recruit managers the same way they’ve been recruiting players for years.
Stylistic fit, profile, and potential being prioritized over hit rate and previous noncontextualized success. I’m a fan.
🚨🔵 Brighton and St. Pauli are advancing in talks over compensation fee for Fabian Hürzeler! Here we go, expected soon.
Full agreement on contract and project between 31 year old manager and Brighton, as revealed yesterday; just waiting on compensation fee.
Almost there.
🚨🇫🇷 Bayern are now open to Kingsley Coman exit on an initial loan with buy clause.
Bayern need outgoings to complete new signings… and Coman’s one of the club’s top earners.
It’s concrete possibility, as
@SkySportDE
reported.
👀 Coman, one of big names for the final 3 weeks.
Honestly, he is such an incredibly talented individual.
I’ll restrain myself from saying something too exaggerated, but what I will say is that I’d be very surprised if Nestor doesn’t make his senior debut for Bayern before the end of 24/25.
According to Perth Glory’s football director Stan Lazaridis, Daniel Bennie (2006) has signed for
@QPR
following a successful trial with the club.
A few notes from me on Bennie and his profile:
• Daniel is a young, but physically mature player with good balance and composure on
- Top 5 lowest budgets in a salary capped league.
- No proper academy structure.
- No domestic transfer system.
- Not owning their home stadium.
To be fair, you can’t say which is definitively harder. But using the “where they’ll finish in the PL” argument makes 0 sense.
Nothin remotely similar between Kaka and Bruno, in terms of playing style.
They're literally an example of how different two players who play in the same position can be.
Prime Kaka and Bruno Fernandes are very similar in their playing style and football skills. They possess all the qualities that a world class attacking midfielder should have.
Goodwin and Mooy aside, I’ve never seen an Australian player dominate the A-League the way McGree did when he was at Adelaide.
This kid is destined for the very top. He just needs the right platform.
Aaron Mooy’s post-WC form hasn’t been talked about enough in Australia.
He’s now has 7 goal involvements in his past 6 league games for Celtic, while also ranking second in the Celtic squad for Chances created per 90 (20+ games played). Exceptional player.
Nick Montgomery joining Ange’s Spurs as an assistant coach is by far my favorite move of the off-season so far.
As much as I would’ve loved to see him back in the A-League, this could be a game-changing opportunity for Monty, who has everything to be a coach at the top level.
I’m excited to share that my application for European Association of Scouts membership has been approved! 🇪🇺⚽️
A big thank you to the EAS board for approving my membership and I’m really proud to be a part of this growing community.
Looking forward to networking with so many
Probably in the minority here, but I actually disagree.
People just focus way too much on the managers that were “big names” during their playing days.
If you take a look at the EFL, you’ll find some exceptional, young, English coaches, that are doing fantastic things.
England as a nation need to look at themselves. I dont know if its something the FA can sort but the coaching standards from the countrymen are a disgrace.
Goes to show the in-depth knowledge and understanding of the game that elite coaches have, even those that most people don't rate very highly.
A lot of the time, people underestimate just how competent/qualified you have to be to even get near the pro level, let alone the PL.
This Jesse Marsch MNF is a complete all-timer, it’s fascinating hearing him explain minimum width, counter pressing, building up but staying compact in the Red Bull model and explaining rest defence clearly
It vindicates what a lot of us tactics guys love and do
Kevin Muscat being linked with the Rangers job shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Bar a short spell with Sint-Truidense, he’s been successful everywhere, evolving as a coach as time goes on and winning titles in different countries, while playing a good brand of football.
Experience obviously the big caveat, but I like the idea of McKenna to Chelsea.
His in-possession/OOP (325/442) approach is actually similar to the one that Poch used in his final games.
He’s also shown adaptability and the willingness to make adjustments when required.
Think this hasn’t been discussed enough due to the lack of Socceroos games recently.
But the current talent pool available to Graham Arnold might be the *best* and most diverse he’s had since becoming the ‘Roos coach.
Excited to see who’ll be selected for the upcoming matches.
Will never get tired of watching this kid play football.
Said it before, but look at how comfortable he is every time he receives the ball. His spatial awareness is next level.
You can see the Man City blueprint in his movement and linkup play. Outrageous player.
This is not player watch but deserves these clips to be shown. Robertson is the best player in the league and we are incredibly lucky to have him. It’s Alexander’s world and we live in it so drink it up milk it cause we all know it’s not gonna last longer than this season
#pompey
@tedtodorovic
People all over the timeline talking about longevity like Eden didn’t have 8/9 years at the very highest peak of football.
These days everyone’s being compared to Messi and CR, but if you go back, you’ll see that most of the “greats” of the game didn’t have 10+ years peak.
I’m usually an enemy of the Marquee Retirement Fund. But it’s Edin Džeko we’re talking about here.
Coming off the back of a 36 game season in the Süper Lig, where he got 27 G+A, and he literally started in an UCL final almost a year ago.
38-year-old Fenerbahçe striker Edin Džeko is interested in moving to Australia, with Western Sydney Wanderers showing interest in the Bosnian. 👀🚨 [
@sportsport
]
Džeko also has interest from Sydney FC, Hajduk Split, and MLS clubs.
Seems like A-League youngsters are becoming hot property, might as well reveal the names I expect to explode next season.
- Marcus Younis, 19 (WSW)
- Matthew Grimaldi, 20 (WU)
- Amlani Tatu, 16 (Adelaide Utd)
- Panagiotis Kikianis, 19 (Adelaide Utd)
- Tiago Quintal, 18 (SFC)
I can’t believe that grown men still use this argument in 2023.
If you had two Bachelor and two Master degrees, and had worked at Wall Street for like 10 years, would you randomly decide to go backwards and work at McDonald’s just to prove a couple of ignorant people wrong?
Irankunda is obviously the man of the moment (every week now), but we need to talk about Craig Goodwin.
Involved in 17 goals in 18 games this season and has been incredibly consistent throughout.
I believe that he’s good enough to play in one of the world’s T5 leagues.
- He came through the ranks at
@AdelaideUnited
for whom he made his debut on 19/03 2016.
- Has also played for Brugge, Newcastle Jets (where he scored THIS 😍👇), Melbourne City, and Adelaide again where he impressed and earned a move to Charlotte and Birmingham respectively.
Got engaged.
Bought my own apartment.
Became a godfather.
Started a new job.
Got into professional scouting.
It’s been an eventful year. Truly grateful for everything. 💙
Mark Jackson’s Central Coast Mariners, one of the most well-coached A-League sides over the last decade.
Tactical breakdown. 🧵
- 3-2-4-1 in-possession structure.
- Compact 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 OOP.
- Lopsided 3-2 rest defence (LB -> LCB/ RB -> RW).
- Wide rotations.
Scrap the debut chat, he’s going to be the real deal right from the off.
First (unofficial) senior goal for Nestor and it’s the most Irankunda-type of goal you could wish for.
Early days, but Kompany clearly trusts him and trust and patience is all he needs.
Coventry are close to completing the £7.7m club-record signing of USA striker Haji Wright.
He scored 29 goals in two seasons for Antalyaspor.

Tactically, the 3-2-5 that we saw from Chelsea, in the last 10+ minutes of regular time, was better than everything we’ve seen since pre-season.
During the US tour, the 3-2-5 in possession system worked really well and moving away from it never really made sense to me.
All the European top clubs are trying hard to secure the top talents from South America aged 16-18, except for Bayern München, just because they had bad experiences almost two decades ago. It's really a shame.
Celtic fans finally seeing what a class act footballer Aaron Mooy can be when he’s fully fit.
Having him, McGregor, O’Riley, Turnbull, Hatate, Haksabanovic, Ideguchi, and even McCarthy in the same midfield is phenomenal depth.
That's pretty much it from me. 😁
Really hope you enjoyed the thread as much as I did while writing it and make sure you follow me for more similar content.
RT/shares are very appreciated and let's make this reach
@McgreeRiley
himself! 😂
Thank you! 🙏
🚨🚨| BREAKING: Premier League managers want to bring in a rule which will see them treated the same as players, and only be allowed to move clubs or be axed during transfer windows.
