Things I never thought I would do in my career:
- wrangle a swan into a high vis jacket to get it out of the road
- walk said swan for half a mile to get it back to the pond where it had come from
In other news - the issued trousers are the most ill-fitting things in the world
When will the force get trousers that fit bigger thighs and smaller waists 😂😂😂
In their final form 😁
Really happy with how these came out but even happier that tons of officers have already asked for the download for these and benefitting from some little reminders - even had my old coach start share them with his new students
And they are finished! Here is the full set of Aide Memoir cards I have made ☺️
From legislation, to first aid, to traffic and case files!
If anyone would like a copy, please DM me and I am happy to share if officers would find them useful!
Death is weird and has different effects on everyone
But emergency workers all have different ways of dealing with death and “patients”
If you have, how do you deal with it?
I sound crazy because I always talk to them and explain what I am doing and why
My degree is officially done - no more essays no more exams
Professional discussion, final presentation and dissertation done
Hopefully in January I shall be officially done with the degree and out of my three year probation
Our force is cracking down on uniform regulations and focusing on tattoos - to the point where if you have sleeve tattoos or ones on your arms, you are being told to wear long sleeves at all times.
Wonder what people’s thoughts are on this?
Day three of driving course completed
I’m still alive and kicking! Haven’t crashed 😅😅
Lots of good feedback about smoothness of the drive and my gear changes - just need to get my confidence holding speed in corners
Early early shift for bank holiday
0600 - 1430 (half an hour over)
- 1 x arrest attempt
- 1 x domestic incident
- 1 x sudden death and my first active hanging in which sadly, the person was beyond help
Not a lot to say about today really
Ended up making more than I originally planned as a new coach saw what I was doing and asked if I could add in some basic powers and policies for new officers
Hoping that these may come in useful! Just need to laminate them and pop them on a keyring now ☺️
Fought a male at the top of a narrow stairwell and got him in cuffs, then other officers let him get away from them after taking said cuffs off, have had to jump a fence using a bbq as leverage and that scrapped with a man on the floor
What a start to a night shift
Brilliant results today - passed my advanced check drive so I am deemed suitable to move forward from a specialist role
Just fingers crossed I am given a place for hopefully next year 😁😁😁
If there’s one thing to know about policing, it’s that your team and your sgts will make or break you in the job
If you have a brilliant supportive collected team, you’ll love the job
I’m lucky to have an incredibly team to work on, with talented amazing officers
Getting all my kit sorted for Remembrance parade this weekend - first time I am in my Police number ones as every other time I have had greens on 😁
(Yes our uniform’s crown has not been changed)
Feels very strange to be on rest day two and almost be wishing away the rest days to get back to work
I have jobs before the Police where I dreaded coming in to work, but now? Well now I’m just as excited - though it’s hard work, I love it
Even if I wanted to join my graduation for the degree I’ve earned through the PCDA route, I’d need to travel nearly five hours up the country, pay for my own travel and hotel and then pay £300 for the private hire of a gown because you can’t graduate without one 😂😂😂
“We need more police officers you never see any on the street”
*new officers bought in and on street duties*
“Our police officers are too young and not strong enough, what’s the point in having them, they look like children. Let’s film them and make fun of them”
Part of me hopes that one day, I’ll be that grumpy old-sweat female PS who has specialised and returned to response “for the fun of it” and I’ll have the sass level of Sgt Catherine Cawood (as perfectly played by
@SarahLancsUK
of course)
Last shift on response completed last night - time for my six month stint on an investigations team
Not where I want to be but taking it in a more positive light now - time to crack on and learn something new
Night shift 2200 - 1030 (3 and a half hours overtime)
1 x Driving ticket for speeding
1 x Welfare check on a child
1 x Driving ticket mobile phone
1 x Burglary in progress at 0540 HRS, to which we found three suspects, with stolen items.
Lots of paperwork then completed.
Yesterday was my last shift as part of my six month placement on the investigations team 🎉
I’m very excited to finally move across to the department I have been waiting for since November but I am going to miss the wonderful colleagues who work so so hard in this department
5k complete!! The 20kg weighed me down a bit and slowed down but I completed it in 40 minutes and 23 seconds
So so happy to have hit the £700 target for
@UK_COPS
Really struggled to feel like I have been making progress whilst on my six month stint in investigations
But today was told that I currently have a 80% positive solve rate so ain’t so bad I guess
Two months till I’m out and about again
Just off the back of my thread yesterday
Please please PLEASE set up a medical ID on your phone, even if it’s just with name and age
It was our only way of IDing yesterday and made a huge difference to the report and the way in which next of kin were informed
Woke up this morning and went “hmm let’s go find a decent hike”
30km later and I’m ruined
Everything hurts
I don’t think I will move until I return to work
I am convinced that my FCR dispatcher has a tracking device on my radio which beeps at him when I use the toilets in the officer because without fail, he ALWAYS calls me up while I’m trying to have a piss 😂😂😂
Night shift 2200 - 0700
1 x Domestic incident report
1 x Arrest for domestic assault
1 x Arrest for section 5 PO and Threats to Kill

Night shift 2200 - 0700
2 x Fail to stop RTCs attended and dealt with
1 x Petrol station coffee consumed
2 x High risk missing persons found and returned safely
1 x First blue light run completed on team
A Q shift but a nice one to return to after three weeks on a course :)

1 x Mental health crisis attended
1 x Domestic incident
1 x Fight in progress
1 x High risk missing person (found by units)
Our force has now announced a new entry route into the force without the need for a degree
However I’m in my last four months 😅😅 I’m in two minds whether to continue or not as I don’t think I will pass the final 8000 word essay and presentation and research project
Response overtime yesterday for an early shift and realised the reality of de-skilling that occurs after three months off of response - everything was just taking that second more to process
However worked with an awesome new probationer who was top notch
Back on shift tomorrow - as insane as it sounds, I’m excited
I still love this job as much as when I started, even with the pressure of the degree, the poor pay, the high workload, the hatred from the media and the mental exhaustion
Night shift
1000 - 0700
1 x Intruders on (false alarm)
1 x Ticket for front headlight out (to present with the issue fixed)
1 x Medium risk missing person reported and then found (and walked home)
1 x Mental health incident at a railway
1 x Colleague turning 22 on shift :)
All police assessments are finished as of today - signed off and nothing left for me to get signed off
Just the dissertation for the degree to go and I’ll finally be able to just go to work and not have to do all the extra bits
With only nine shifts left on the investigations team, I can safely say that though it’s not the department I would like to work in I have learnt valuable skills in case file building / court process / approaching the CPS
I cannot wait to be back out 😂
Stats for today
1 x Arrest for Threats to Kill
1 x Unsuccessful arrest attempt
1 x Criminal damage report
1 x Threats to kill report and statement
1 x ABH report
1 and 1/2 hours overtime
Very hungry
So there was a few comments on the last post about police uniform beginning to look paramilitary-like
I’ve never seen an issue in that but I’ve never discussed it either
What is the issue with police uniform starting to look paramilitary-esk?
Many countries have the style
Todays late shift
1400 - 0000
- Sadly started with me having to make a difficult call to answer many unanswered questions to the family of the death I dealt with yesterday
- 1 x RTC
- 2 hours spent at a college careers fair
- 1 x Burglary report
Today was difficult
Haven’t really slept, been on edge all night and at 5:30 am sleep just wasn’t happening
So I’m at the gym, in a foul mood, working only towards the breakfast at the end of it hoping that might pull me out of the bad mood I’m in
Just hoping the night shift is better tonight
Overtime tomorrow and first time in nearly three months that I’ll be in uniform 😅
The investigation team has left me getting a little too comfy in my own clothes - not sure the stabby still fits 🤣
A new fresh account and a project to work on. I have designed this account in order to document the day to day life of a PC, to show the true nature of the job, the ups and downs and the parts that are often missed by the media, recruiters and the public.
The radio is Q
I actually have time for lunch
I’ve found a quiet sunny spot in my main area to sit for a few minutes and have lunch in peace
This is actually bliss 🥰
Overtime Early Shift
0600 - 1500
1 x RTC with a tree down in the middle of the road - cleared by highways and everyone okay
1 x RTC caused by a possum crossing the road (don’t believe they live here)
1 x Drug drive arrested and charged
😎
So languages have never been my thing - I think mainly because of my dyslexia
However, I have SUCH an interest in learning British Sign Language, not only for work purposes but also personal gain
Can anyone recommend a good online course for this?
Not me actually enjoying writing my dissertation after nearly three years of hatred for the degree 😅
I’ve found a topic I’m just loving writing about and researching - I’ve completely shown my past self up and I’m actually enjoying writing 8000 words
#pcda
First time in two and a bit weeks that I’ll be back in my kit today!
The driving course is now moving onto marked vehicles which means I can put my kit back on and I’m so glad as I’ve run out of suitable plain clothes 😂😂
Well first proper mutual aid deployment ended with natos on, being bottled and called every name under the sun and an arrest for kicking a police horse - all over some football 🥴
Someone asked on here earlier “what advice would you give to a person just about to join the police?”
I’m terrible with advice really, with my best offer being “be a sponge” and just take everything in
But what would your advice be for a new starter?
I couldn’t even update it last night but
Late shift - 1400 - 0300 (3 hrs overtime)
1x arrest for domestic assault
1x ZJ domestic report
1x fight in progress broken up
1x arrest for assault + report
1x section 18 house search
1x arrest for 3x stalking + report
Work load car all set this week so apologises, there will be no excitement from me - just lots of paperwork!
Our team has a “workload car” consisting of two PCs, you are on it for the set and you are OIC of all occurrence reports that come in slow time for the rota.
