Red Sox lineup on the day of Brady's first start:

2. Darren Lewis, LF
3. Trot Nixon, CF
4. Brian Daubach, RF
5. Morgan Burkhart, 1B
6. Scott Hatteberg, DH
7. Shea Hillenbrand, 3B

9. Lou Merloni, SS
SP: Frank Castillo
More human beings watched Japan-Korea than any single game of the World Series (by a lot). You don't get to call the World Baseball Classic "a made up exhibition" just because you don't like it.
Joe Kelly talking on NESN right now. Said LeVangie sat the bullpen down before Game 1 of the ALDS and showed them a slide show of all the headlines saying the bullpen was why the Sox wouldn't win it all. Then he showed them a video of every strikeout from the bullpen all year.
Hard to overstate what Remy meant for me, and most of you I'd assume, as a young fan. Baseball can be a grind to follow on a day-to-day basis, but no one was better at making every game, even a mid-June blowout, enthralling and entertaining. RIP to one of the best to ever do it.
It's honestly going to take a few days for this to settle in. We're probably never going to witness another season like that again. What an fucking ride it's been.
Hey, here's a thought: instead of removing Xander in the 7th inning to give the fans a chance to show their appreciation, why don't we just let him play the next 3 innings, and then the next 8 years after that???
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on his off-season comments that he would never play for the Yankees (via interpreter):
“It’s a personal thing. It goes back with my family. That’s my decision and I will never change that.”

The only logical thing I can think of is Chris Sale sold his soul to the baseball gods in exchange for winning a world series but it came with the condition his bones be replaced with pretzels
Everyone is talking about this being the best Red Sox team they've seen. Obviously. This is legitimately one of the greatest baseball teams of all time.
Third baseman Rafael Devers and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a one-year, $17.5 million deal to avoid arbitration, sources tell ESPN.
This does not stop the sides from reaching a long-term contract extension. The fact that the sides got this deal done shows discussions.
(Sincere tweet alert) This was a wild season with a ton of ups and downs, but ultimately a lot of fun. I'm very grateful for everyone who follows along with all our stuff all year and makes it possible for me to keep doing this dumb job. So thanks, see you in '22
Just to get out ahead of it, of course the Red Sox should be celebrating. 162 games is absurdly long and they made it. Worth celebrating for any team, never mind one who outplayed expectations as much as they have
Here's how I'd write out my AL All Star Lineup:
1. Mookie Betts, RF
2. Andrew Benintendi, LF
3. J.D. Martinez, DH
4. Mitch Moreland, 1B
5. Xander Bogaerts, SS
6. Rafael Devers, 3B
7. Brock Holt, 2B
8. Sandy León, C
9. Jackie Bradley Jr., CF
SP: Chris Sale, LHP
Just FYI, Mookie not wanting to stay in Boston long-term (which I still don't buy but whatever let's roll with it) is still an indictment of the organization. They're the Red Sox! They should be able to get a homegrown superstar to want to stay!
I sort of want the Red Sox to not have a manager for spring training just to see what that even looks like. Hell, go into the season without a manager. Do a manager of the month thing. Fans vote for next the month's manager. Get real weird with it.

We're going to hear a ton about how long that game took. That was not a bad long game. That game was bananas the entire way through. Baseball at its best. (Helps that the Red Sox won)
The Red Sox are losing because they wasted a bunch of early chances, but also because of some bad umpiring, but also because for some reason their worst pitcher came into a high leverage spot. In conclusion, this game is a land of contrasts.
Tired: Kyle Schwarber was the boost this lineup needed.
Wired: Travis Shaw was the boost this lineup needed.
Inspired: José Iglesias was the boost this lineup needed
On Opening Day the Red Sox should be sending Betts, Benintendi and Martinez to the plate in the top of the first then Chris Sale to the mound in the bottom. That’s cool as hell.
People are celebrating this, and they should. But the fact that they DFA'd him so quickly makes the decision to start him even more pointless. What are they even doing?
