Just in time especially since I am about to start my PhD soon.

1/7 🧵 Life update:
I decided to step away from my current PhD program
@UL
. The reasons are numerous but primarily, I am seeking a space where I continue my scientific pursuits and also take care of my own personal wellbeing.
@AcademicChatter
It’s the time to announce that I have received an offer from the University of Oxford for a DPhil (PhD) in Women’s and Reproductive Health with the amazing scientist Dr Suzannah Williams.
Crossing fingers for the fund!!
@AcademicChatter
Just landed in Iraq, mum’s first comment you lost a lot of weight, I made you Kubbeh let me warm you some. Dad, how much did you pay for your ticket, it’s on me don’t worry. They’re so sweet 😭
I am actually terrified 😮💨 and super excited to deliver a TEDx talk on Assisted Conception focusing on the future of IVG (making gametes in the lab) in the Iraqi context later this month 🫠
A *CBS reporter* says that since Ukraine is a "relatively civilized, relatively European" city, unlike Iraq or Afghanistan, you wouldn't expect war.
Racism and white supremacy are on open air!
Thrilled to be starting my PhD journey with
@emcunnane
's vibrant group
@BernalNews
&
@UL
making pre-clinical models of human testes funded by an
@ERC_Research
grant.
I am very much looking forward to new opportunities, collaborations, and rigorous science.
#AcademicChatter
Included the small grants I wrote and were unsuccessful and the ones I co-authored in my
#CV
! Why not? Substantial time and research went into these 😊!
@AcademicChatter
Excited to share that I’ll be joining Prof
@DrSAWilliams
lab and
@Ox_wrh
dept. at the University of Oxford
@UniofOxford
next week as an RA in Female Fertility Preservation.
An opportunity to learn and contribute to the
#Repro
field. Can’t wait to share some amazing science.
According to textbooks the menstrual cycle is ~28 days, ovulation day 14
Time to update the textbooks?
@ProfJoyceHarper
and colleagues data suggest:
- 13% 28 day cycles
- 65% cycles 25-30 days
- Ovulation day 17
@SRF_Repro
After a long visa battle finally I’m here
#ESHRE2022

This is Omar Ammar, an ECR working on fertility preservation at the University of Oxford and a trained embryologist!
Come say hi let’s meet and connect! You can’t miss my Hello Kitty t-shirt! 🌈

“If you ever catch yourself judging another person living their best life, their confidence, the way they express themselves, what they post, the way they dress it's not them, it's You. Time to work on yourself”
**Quoted with tiny modifications from a friend of a friend
People policing other people's social media and what it should be about, like there's a perfect way of doing this, or suggesting that people are doing things just for self-promotion can honestly get in the bin.
Post-ESHRE touristing!
What a brilliant opportunity to meet you all in person! I really enjoyed it 🫶🏼
Let’s be in touch and meet again next year in Copenhagen 💙✨
1/n I always get this question in interviews: why your work experience is diverse not in a single pathway. Well let me tell you, I am research oriented and I love doing wet experiments in the lab. Yet, in Iraq and most of the middle eastern countries, research is.
@AcademicChatter
Happy World Embryologist Day!
The profession that changed my life!
Wishes for better recognition, representation and wellbeing!
A wee nostalgia from my days in the IVF lab!
Interesting paper. In many countries, patients don’t know what’s an embryologist and what is their role in the cycle. Some visibility won’t hurt.
“The value of the modern embryologist to a successful IVF system: revisiting an age-old question”
Having a personal moment on

after 4 years of being apart. We did our masters together

in 2017 and here we are meeting again in Oxford 😭🥰
Happy our paper is online & being the corresponding author!
Piece of information from often underrepresented region and population.

Saying goodbye to everyone and spending my last hours next to my precious mum. Very emotional yet extremely excited to go back to Oxford and resume working!

During lunchtime, was curious to learn about first mentions of infertility in ancient civilizations especially Mesopotamia.
I stumbled upon this amazing 4000-year-old Assyrian marriage contract.
It defines infertility as…..
It was an absolute pleasure to talk about infertility and my research focusing on male infertility
@pintofscienceIE
! Looking forward to Prof Kinsella keynote talk!
Eid Mubarak everyone celebrating! Enjoy the food, gatherings and the celebratory vibes! 🫶🏼
In Iraq Eid means we stuff ourselves with Kleicha (Iraqi cookies), mixed nuts and having big meals with all family together. And of course sleepovers and lots of gossiping 🤭.
Happy to announce that my abstract titled "Intracellular Calcium Dynamics in Metaphase II Frozen Mouse Oocytes" has been accepted for the 2021 SSR Annual Meeting

My first

My wee lab, since three years ago and still counting! I know this humble IVF lab inch by inch! Many precious and moments and challenges took place in this lab! I have had my first livebirths starting from here 💙.

Ahem, it’s not Iraqis destroying and being negligent about history. US etc invaded us and let terrorists to take control over almost everything including those historic places. During the invasion and ISIS time many of these got stolen during the chaos and the state of war!
@njoybetz
Funders like
@ERC_Research
and others should put a minimum stipend policy which’s decent and per country of residency in terms of accommodation, bills and general living stuff.
Something to celebrate today, I got my first livebirth today for the first ICSI cycle I ever performed (a beautiful baby boy). Second, I got 4 citations 🥺🎉

#Reprotwitter
As the only embryologist in the lab with one junior assistant, I performed so far, 5 ETs, 2 biopsy, FISH (sex select), 2 pick ups, 2 thawings, still got 2 ICSI and 2 embryo freezing. They think this is a one person work and no meed to bring another embryologist. 😫
7/7 While this chapter closes, a new one waits to be written. I remain passionate about my field, and I’m excited about the opportunities that lay ahead. The journey isn't ending, it's just changing direction.
I am begging the media/societies/everyone to use conventional IVF images when referring to IVF/ART.
ICSI is specific for a special patient group. Its safety still debated, success rate similar to IVF in non-male factor cases, expensive, & prone to more procedural mistakes.
Seriously why journals don’t adapt a universal template for manuscripts. It’s really useless to spend that much time on moving figures, changing font, moving libraries across softwares!!
I’m tired 💀
