The gulf between design intent and final result of
#OMA
’s Factory building in Manchester, is a complete travesty.
It’s renaming as ‘Aviva studios’ is a final act of insanity, losing all connection to the originating radical cultural moment that inspired the building.
The exquisitely detailed courtroom designed by Carlo

Richard Murphy’s recent book on

Probably around 8 months ago we visited a quarry in Derbyshire to select a seam of stone for the floor of our new home. Today, the stone yard sent through images of the panels prior to shipment. I can’t tell you how happy this makes me.
It’s so disheartening to see the destruction going on at

at the moment. It’s such a special place that needs to be cherished and applauded for what it does. Well done to
@paulaakpan
for telling it like it is!

Just back from the Barbican having heard Gavin Bryars & Co play “Jesus’ Blood never failed me yet” live for the first time. A work of transcendent genius. We were all in tears.
So delighted to finally get my hands on this beautiful book. Out of print so it’s been on Amazon for crazy prices. Finally sourced through Oxfam. Win win!
Architecture has been the gift of my life. There is a real satisfaction in living in something that you have designed for those around you. Its beauty unfolds day by day, slowly and quietly.

There is a beautiful record of Jonathan Hill’s teaching on the PhD programme at the Bartlett at the moment, including copies of the PhDs he supervised. An incredible legacy.

I met Shane once in the back bar of Nancy Spain’s on Barrack St in Cork. He came up to me and put a small poundshop sound emitting device up to my ear. It went ‘fuck you’, ‘fuck you’, ‘fuck you’ over and over. He was cracking up laughing at this. Gas man.

I watched this late last night in tears. I cannot exaggerate what a hero Sinéad is for my generation of Irish people.

Having organised many students to partake in Erasmus+ programmes, and seen the obvious benefits, this is a very generous gesture from the Irish government, and a positive sign of cross border relations in Ireland.
