50+ Tornado Warnings, 11.5 hours on shift, 4 pizzas for lunch, dinner is ordered...and we're still going. Tornado Warnings don't stop coming, and they don't stop coming. This office is filled with all-stars.
What if I told you, Baylor was picked to win the Big 12? What if I told you, Nebraska's biggest all-time rivalry was with Texas? What if I told you, we haven't seen Baker Mayfield make any tough throws?
ESPN presents...a 30 for 30.
"Things Joey Galloway Has Said"
I can finally announce that I've accepted an offer to be the next Lead Forecaster here at
@NWSShreveport
. I'm excited to spend more time in this fine office working with an amazing group of people. They are truly some of the best you'll ever find!
Here is to wishing the Four-States region a Happy New Year! Midnight shift checking in! Hoping everyone has a safe start to 2021 on this cool and rainy winter morning.
After 16 hours, most of which I spent issuing warnings, including my first Tornado Emergency, I'm clocking out. I know the event is still ongoing for others, and the recovery process is just beginning.
15 years ago today, I started my career with
@NWS
. First at
@NWSAmarillo
and now at
@NWSShreveport
. It's been a wild ride so far! Here's a picture launching one of my first weather balloons, one of my last days at AMA, and finally today.
At DFW Airport at Smashburger. Guy behing the counter sees my OU shirt and says, "Can you say Hook 'Em Horns?" I say, "You know, it's literally a hamburger. That's what I ordered. That's what you're cooking."
I think it took him 5 minutes to stop laughing.

Technically, he just wonders what the problem was. Just like Lincoln Riley, technically, didn't have any contact with USC until 6 hours before he accept their HC job.
Today is one of those days that meteorology is no longer fun or exciting. Just tragic and saddening. It's chilling to see my forecast area and my forecast office such a focal point in the national media.
Cold day for weather support at the Independence Bowl. Current temp of 18 deg F. But I'm in the pressbox with jamming out to some 80s hair bands before the game starts.
As a resident of Louisiana, I'm officially banned from entering Oklahoma and Texas except on official business. If I do, I'm stopped at the state line and must go into self-quarantine for 14 days.
Not gonna lie. Feeling really lonely and depressed right now.
Just got back to the office after a Skywarn class in Gilmer. Got back during a Flash Flood Warning. Made the drive back to the NWS office a little interesting.
I was just in a CVS in Downtown San Antonio and I did my good deed for the day by making sure these UT footballs were properly arranged.

My co-worker just got back from a few days off. We haven't talked much this shift. I'm concentrating on the forecast. He's trying to work on something on his PC. Suddenly, he yells, "Password expired?!? Kiss my a**!"
I can't stop laughing.
Best of luck to Mike Stoops. He coached some great defenses in the 2000s and during the first few years of his return to OU. But, yesterday was not a one-off. It's been a growing trend for years. It's time for a change.
Thanks for your hard work over the years.

Second flight to Corpus cancelled. No flights tomorrow. Next available at 4:25pm Tuesday. Have to be there for work at 10pm tomorrow. Now renting a car. Either driving 7+ hours through tonight or stopping in Austin or SAT. Haven't decided yet.
What a start to my TDY.
Tornado Debris Signature getting to heights of 10k-12k feet about 15 minutes ago. This is the storm with the Tornado Emergency that was just in or VERY close to New Boston, TX.
Finished my last shift today. Thanks to
@NWSCorpus
for hosting me the last two weeks. I learned a lot, and I hope I helped! And thanks for the cupcake!
@pmarshwx
How does this compare on a seasonal basis? It was relatively quiet until mid to late April, so I'm not sure the seasonal numbers are too much above the norm. The last month or so has definitely been VERY active. I've fielded a lot of media inquiries asking about this.
ZERO casualties from a tornado in a densely-populated area AND during a holiday. Knowing that I had a direct hand in making a difference. It's hard to put that feeling into words. THIS is what myself & my amazing co-workers dedicate ourselves to...protecting lives.
🧵 Our paper is finally out in
@nwas
JOM assessing the 12 April 2020 Easter Sunday tornado in Monroe, and more broadly the tornadic QLCS across north LA that morning. This was a collaborative effort b/w faculty/students in our program and
@NWSShreveport
.
After losing the players we did from last year, including a Heisman winner at quarterback, if you had told me last January that OU would be the exact same this season, I'd have called you crazy. Proud of this team. This has been a fun season.
@KennedyClouds
They thought the radar was frying them, so they refused to go back to their controls until the radar was shut off. So, the new 88D was shutdown for a few days, the tower was lined was radar reflective foil, and the radar software was programmed not to transmit down that radial.
Drake Stoops catching a touchdown pass while Bob is the head coach tonight is something I badly wanted out of this bowl game. So happy for those two guys!

I've seen that commercial where the guy asks Google to remember stuff about his late wife 5 times. Every time, I cry like I'm watching the opening to "Up." How does a commercial do that to a 37-year old man?
Looking back at the results of the 2021 Severe Weather Forecast Challenge, guess who had a SIG HAIL report 1.38 miles from their hail point. This guy. Guess who has forgotten to put in a forecast every day since. Also this guy.
UPDATE: 5:10am. I made it. In my hotel room in Corpus. Time to sleep a bit before driving to the airport at 11am to drop off this rental car, pickup another rental car, and get my suitcase from American. Yes, somehow my suitcase made it onto a flight to Corpus, but not me.
