This is Slavin, the Soviet monument to the WWII Red Army liberators of Bratislava, many of whom were Ukrainian. For years appropriated by Russia, this evening it is displaying the colours of those fighting for freedom today. A gesture of solidarity from Bratislava to #Ukraine .

Pietna comemoracia 81-ého výročia Operácie Anthropoid a hrdinstva Jozefa Gabčika v rodisku Poluvsie. Plánovali operáciu práve v Škótsku. Gabčik je vzorom odhodlania a odvahy pre každého mladého Slováka. Bojoval proti týraniu a za slobodu, ako Ukrajinci dnes proti ruskej invázie.

Dnes bolo mi cťou sa zúčastniť na ‘putnickej prechadzke’ z pamiatky Gabčíkovi pred kasárňou 5-ého pluku v Žiline do pamiatky pred rodinným domom v dedine Poluvsie. Ozajstný slovenský hrdina, ktorý bojoval a padol za slobodu. #Gabcik #Zilina #Anthropoid

We remembered Major General Otto Smik today, the premier Slovak air ace in the #RAF in WWII, on the 79th anniversary of his death in action. The 81st Wing Sliač of the Slovak Air Force carries his name.

I’m looking forward to joining the annual “pilgrimage walk” this Easter Monday, from his monument in the Special Forces barracks in Žilina to his home village of Poluvsie and a 2nd monument to him opposite his family home which the British embassy helped to restore. #NeverForget
