In early May 2020, my sister-in-law Tricia, a head of nursing at GOSH died of Covid after weeks on a ventilator. She'd gone back to the front line at the start of the pandemic. Meanwhile, Boris Johnson invited 100 guests to a garden party at 10 Downing Street. Speechless.

@IsraelinUK I've attended scores of protests in Trafalgar Square over the past 47 years, large and small. This isn't "tens of thousands". The Jewish Bloc on yesterday's pro-Palestine march was as large. You're losing the argument, even within the Jewish community.

@Jonathan_K_Cook When I first read the headline I thought the Wiener Holocaust Library was including what is happening in Gaza today as an example of modern-day genocide. Good on you, I thought. Should have trusted my instincts about Guardian journalism...

A friend called me earlier and told me her car's out of fuel and she'll be paying ยฃ25 for a cab to get her to work on the early shift tomorrow. She's a nurse in the NHS. How does this square with Tory ministers telling us there's no fuel crisis? ๐Ÿคฆ

BREAKING: Despite previous government assurances that the fuel crisis would resolve itself within days, the military has now been drafted in. Military tanker drivers to start delivering fuel to forecourts across the country from Monday.

Imagine trying to live off about 11 grand a year. Not just for a few weeks or a few months but year after year with no opportunity to switch to higher income jobs or earn a few quid here and there. The elderly don't belong to TUs, they can't negotiate better pay for themselves 5/

Morning! Just off to work. Before I go, happy #FBNHS day. I'm a nurse in the NHS, a socialist and union member. I tweet on health and politics from a left perspective. I support #NHSPay15 100%. I will follow back anyone who believes in a socially just society.

@MikeCha28904532 I always thought the aim of a political party was to engage with its potential voters &, for Labour anyway, to offer a message of genuine social change. Witchunting socialists while simultaneously telling them they are Tories if they don't vote Labour doesn't quite cut it, sorry.

@MnarMuh Generally, I'm against the doxxing of any individual who wants to preserve some anonymity during a debate. All us say things in the heat of the moment we later regret. But this is a police officer who tried to have a group of Palestinian Americans arrested for speaking Arabic.

@brokenbottleboy Back in the day, when I was writing financial stuff, I'd often be invited to drinks by the Treasury team. So I just can't believe Laura K never knew most of this stuff already. Friday afternoon/evening drinks by the press team at Downing Street and she was never invited? Right...

I'm old enough to remember the last time Nazis turned out to "protect the Cenotaph" from leftists supposedly hellbent on tearing it down. It was during the Black Lives Matter protests & lagered-up fascists proceeded to piss on a nearby memorial to a slain policeman.

My father and his family risked their lives sheltering a Jewish family in their own home in Budapest during late 1944-45 to save them from Nazi concentration camps. Your pathetic attempt to draw an equivalence, while ignoring the genocide of Palestinian people is sickening.

@PhilipProudfoot I was at Wood Green that day, alongside Corbyn and thousands of others. It was a vital step in the struggle to reclaim all our streets against the Nazi NF It culminated in the Battle of Lewisham on 13 August 1977. When the NF were finally consigned to the dustbin of history.

@dieworkwear @TheLastNeocon I hate the current silhouette with a vengeance. It reminds me of British actor Norman Wisdom's role as a hapless idiot. Is there any evidence that it's being replaced by something vaguely more stylish?

But don't pensioners own their own homes and pay no mortgages? Sure, 75% of over-65s have paid off their home loans. Ironically, the value of those same homes will be eaten up by care costs in old age, as successive governments endlessly delay adult social care reform. 8/

Moreover, what gobshites like Marina conveniently forget is that inflation for someone who has to spend a disproportionate proportion of their income on food, meant extra annual costs of 13.6% in August 2023 compared to 12 months earlier, dropping to โ€œjustโ€ 9.9% last month. 6/

In March 2019 James Cleverly, deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, responded to a Brexit supporter hitting Corbyn in the head with an egg by posting a GIF of a bomb going off with the word โ€œboomโ€. Not a single commentator condemned the attack. But yeah, confetti.

@EmmaBurnell_ I've left. Not over Corbyn - I never considered him "the most successful leader ever". No, I left because the Labour Party he briefly led had values I could believe in, whereas the current leadership has taken the party so far to the right it's unrecognisable. 1/2

@Obsayxx I'm one of the tweeters who responded. None of the replies to him are antisemitic. He just didn't like being called out for being a racist. Interpreting a Muslim call to prayer as an ISIS flag when you can't read Arabic is just that: racism.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House, says he will have to start "playing hardball" with Boris Johnson over his failure to make announcements directly to MPs in the Commons. Yeah, right, like Hoyle has worked so hard to get Johnson to stop telling lies in the House...๐Ÿ™„
