I have never used

This morning I lost my greatest friend and mentor. My father:
Martin H. Floch MD
He was a proud family man who also loved his work.
He boasted only about how much he loved his job.
He had incredible vision

I’m going to get harassed for saying this but every male surgeon should know how to cook and bake for his loved ones so that his wife can go out and crack chests, make high risk deliveries, and do emergent ER procedures. It’s part of being an incredible nurturer and caregiver.
I’m going to get harassed for saying this, but every woman should be able to do an emergent c-section for an antepartum hemorrhage with a transverse lie and an anterior placenta previa. It’s a part of being an incredible nurturer and caregiver
True story: I had one if not the MOST successful bariatric, general, and acute care surgery practices in Connecticut 15 years ago. One day my accountant and lawyer walked in the room for a meeting in the lobby of my office which I owned along with part of a surgical center. They
This is why non employed doctors are getting crushed.
My surgeon was paid $456 for an hour+ long robotic abdominal procedure. And if you knew the anatomy, risks, training needed, etc… is just an absurdly low sum of $.
Stop telling me it’s the doctors fees.
And. He didn’t

Someone should tell self-important anti-gun doctors to stay in their lane. Half of the articles in Annals of Internal Medicine are pushing for gun control. Most upsetting, however, the medical community seems to have consulted NO ONE but themselves.
Everyday I live with the recurring frustration as I battle insurance companies, the government and the patients themselves that erroneously believe that
#obesity
is self-inflicted and therefore people with this disease are not worthy or entitled to be treated. This must change.
I am indescribably saddened by the loss of my father but optimistically surprised by the outward expression of sympathy and kindness by all people - friends and critics who have demonstrated that human compassion and emotional expression are alive and well in our society.
The most difficult part of being a surgeon is not the technique, not the finding of the correct diagnosis, not the determination of treatment or application, but living day to day with the general concern over the safety, recovery, and well being of our patients.

Dear patients-
When a CT scan is done at another hospital, practice, or institution, I cannot see the results or the pictures. The law does not say that I can see them or get them. A law passed by the past president says that YOU have the right to see all your records but NOT
The term ‘obese’ is a slur because it is used to dehumanize us and harass us. It’s not because our feelings are hurt by an ‘accurate description’, it is an outdated term that does more harm than good. And as such, it should be eradicated. That’s it.
Weight Loss Surgery is NOT an easy fix. It is a difficult step in a long treatment process that should NOT begin with
#surgery
and must NOT end with it either. Steps must be taken to alter an environment of poor eating and lack of activity.
My intuitive 16 year old son asked me,
“How can a health system that works to provide care depend on an insurance industry that profits by withholding care?”

A Message about obesity today
In the 1970s when malnutrition was the concern of the day and “food for all” was a pipe dream, the industrial complex took steps that turned “the great food ship” in the wrong direction. For 50 years we have been sailing the wrong way. 1/-
As a young doctor, I apologized to my patients for every time I could not be there to help them because I was not on call or had to sleep.
As an experienced surgeon, I apologize to my wife and children for every event good and bad that I missed putting them second to my patients
Obesity is NOT simply a problem of eating too much and exercising too little. Until we get these facts straight, we can’t begin to correct the problem.
Over my 31 years as a doctor…
I have learned that wherever you go, any specialty, any hospital system, any country, independent of our different politics, languages, or religions, we
#healthcare
workers are colleagues and collaborators. Disease and anything that comes between us
As a bariatric surgeon I am studying for the obesity medicine boards - I believe this education should be mandatory for: 1. Everyone who prescribes medications 2. Bariatric Surgeons 3. The pathophysiology as part of medical school education
The ignorance concerning obesity by
Some of the smartest docs I know have no clue about the science of obesity, more specifically, the pathophysiology of the chronic dz. It’s not their fault bc it’s not taught in med school or post-graduate training, but they should practice humility when discussing it publicly.
It is fascinating that in face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, people remain steadfast to believing falsely that, “
#obesity
is a self-inflicted disease”, when simply, it is multifactorial in causation.
“2023: The Obesity Treatment Dilemma”
Should I take a monthly injection that costs $600-1200 a month that causes 15-24% total body weight loss?
Or
Should I have a bariatric surgery that is covered by insurance or costs $20,000 and causes 33% Total body weight loss?

It’s time for medical notes to change.
Notes should be:
1. Concise
2. Include the pertinent positive and negative findings
3. Eliminate templated fluff
4. Bill based upon time allotted to patient care

it is the denial of coverage for both obesity treatment medications and for bariatric surgery.
Somehow the medical evidence that supports the only long term and most successful treatments for

is ignored and patients are allowed to be discriminated

In reality your surgeon only gets $500 for a hernia repair but actually we get nothing because all payments go directly to the hospital or health system or large equity owned surgery practice.
@jivanadi
Pediatricians are the LOWEST paid physicians- many nurses make more money and certainly nurse anesthetist make significantly more money than most Pediatricians- it is criminal!!!
Appreciate your Pediatrician!
They are lifesavers!
