We are the first class A team from MN to EVER make the championship bracket and the smallest school to ever accomplish that. I am so proud of our guys this weekend. They are part of something great!
Sometimes the only lesson that can be learned is that life is hard, difficult, and seemingly unfair at times. I love you and I'm proud of you
@Peytonhanson__
.
It was a very tough day for
@WrestlingJCC
. We had a great season as a team finishing 14-2. WE didn't have enough today. Feelings like I have right now remind me how much I care. It really hurts. Thank you guys for all the work you put in. I'm sorry we didn't get what we wanted.
Is anyone else as excited for the upcoming wrestling season as me? Check out the first version of our hype video created by
@CSchruppDigital
I'm biased but it looks great!
More to come ...
I would like to thank all the fans and students that came and supported us tonight. The gym was awesome. It was so loud you could not hear the horn at the end of the period most of the time. It was definitely an advantage having a great crowd. Thank you Husky Nation!
As we get ready to cheer on and watch our football team pursue their goal and take the next step towards winning a state championship tomorrow we are also days away from starting another exciting wrestling season. Check out this year's wrestling video here
The mats are cut and the room looks great. Cant wait to get everyone back in the room! Make the most of this time Huskies. Run, lift, watch film, set goals, and make a plan. This is NOT 4 weeks off. Lots of ways to get better! Take advantage ofall of them.
@WrestlingJCC
I feel really bad for the guys that were so close to making it. Sam Dunker was a great leader for us this year. He wrestled a great match to get 3rd and it was tough not seeing him get a chance. I was so proud of his heart and fight though.
Just finished up the 8th grade football season with a 14-8 victory over Worthington. My 2 nephews scored both TDs. Helps to know the OC. Thanks for a great season guys!
We wrestled hard as a team but made some costly mistakes. We will get to remember it for the rest of our lives. It will probably always be a little painful but so is life. Very proud of this team and the hard work they put in and the lifelong memories they forged.
Let's close the towns down again next Thursday and send everyone up to the Xcel Energy Center to cheer on the Huskies! It was great to see our huge crowd last year, and I hope to see everyone up there again!
Congratulations Payton Handevidt on being named
#11
in
@mnguillotine
's best pound for pound wrestlers across the whole state in all 3 classes for sophomores! Well deserved.
I would like to congratulate the 7th and 8th grade wrestling team for going 4-1 at state and winning the 3rd place pool. Great group of guys coming up. Stay together and keep working! Well deserved!
@WrestlingJCC
@WrestlingJCC
just won their Day 1 bracket at The Clash National Wrestling Dual Championships garanteeing JCC it's highest finish ever at
@TheClashMN
. Great accomplishment especially for the 2nd smallest school in the tournament. So proud of these guys!
#BeAPartofSomethingGreat
Section individuals are a very emotional tournament for me. I have never walked away from one completely satisfied. I really feel bad for guys that fell just short of what they wanted. What a valuable life lesson it is though. You dont always get what you want or even deserve.
We stayed the night in Sioux City and I think that helped our performance. Randy Baker and I stayed up late into the night thinking about strategies for the next days matches. In the end we decided to score more points than the other team......and it worked!
I will start this barrage by thanking all the JCC fans that drove all the way up to Belgrade tonight to support us. It was great seeing all the current and past parents, alumni, media and friends in the stands. I'll also thank
@PilotSports
for all the great pictures and coverage!
We didnt give up very many bonus points all day and got several pins of our own to help us claim our 3 victories over very good competition. Bolivar, MO is ranked
#5
in class 3A, Liberty AZ is ranked
#1
or
#2
in AZ, and Staley ranked
#4
in class 4A MO. Great work today!
We were a very young team overall but I strongly dislike when people tell me how tough we will be next year. Nex year never comes. Its always a year away. People that spend their time dreaming about next year never make it. We need to get to work now and forget about next year.
The key to the sport of wrestling is learning to love the fight. Sometimes we start hoping that our next guy is going to be easy or weak. Instead we should be hoping that he is about exactly as good as we are and enjoying the battle. I think we are learning that lesson!
Our second entrant at 106 was my nephew Nolan Ambrose. He was 1 and 2 with a win by fall. He was giving up about 15 pounds to everyone he wrestled. The win was his first ever win on varsity. I think there will be many many more.
At 113 pounds Kyler Their put a lot of teams on notice today placing 3rd at 113 pounds despite being about 15 pounds or more under weight. He lost a tough battle for true 2nd but earned the respect of everyone in the gym.
Let's try this again. 14 state place winning teams including 7 state championship teams are finally all hanging up in the wrestling room!!!
@WrestlingJCC
@trinbelle
5th seeded
@WrestlingJCC
defeated 4th seeded Bolivar, MO first round 48-15. Then we defeated 1st seed Liberty AZ 38-22. Finally, we defeated 2nd seed Staley MO 49-15 in the championship match. It was great team wrestling from all 3 positions.
Congratulation to
@ButzonLogan
and
@PHandevidt
for winning the section tournament and qualifying for the state wrestling tournament next weekend at the Excel Energy Center!
The match of the night probably belongs to Matt Haley. He beat the
#8
ranked 126 pound wrestler Ellingson. It was a great effort and well deserved. The first of many big wins.
I'm very proud ot 2 FlatEarth wrestlers competing against the best in the nation this week with
@MNUSAW
. They earned a gold and bronze medal while competing. I'm 100% sure they both got better and learned a lot. Great work Nolan and
@cavancura11
. Wrestle the best and get better!
@JCCHuskiesFBALL
@PilotSports
Lesuer Hend should have to play a JV schedule the rest of the year and forfeit their right to play the post-season. It is becoming a theme for teams to forfeit to good teams and then play the next week against a more evenly matched team. I assume LH will play next week vs Sibley?
We have three really tough duals tomorrow against some of the best teams in the nation. It will be a tough day but we are up for the challenge. Great job today guys. We get back to work tomorrow.
Congratulations to
@ambrose_nolan
and
@cavancura11
for going 6-0 and making the all tournament team. One wrestler per weight makes this team and this picture gets hung up at every Clash tournament moving forward. Great accomplishment guys!
It was awesome to see the gym full of people and loud again. I would also like to thank JCC Pep Band for coming and playing tonight and adding to a great atmosphere. The guys really fed off all the excitement.
We beat Blue Earth Area 53-24 in the first dual of the night. We then beat Fairmont/MCW 42-25 to win the section. I was proud of our young guys. The 9th grade league state dual tournament is next weekend in Hastings MN. Great work tonight guys.
At 132
@ambrose_nolan
won the conf tourn and started a run on champs for JCC. He had a dominating 6-0 win over a highly ranked Marshall wrestler. I'm sure he will drop in
@mnguillotine
rankings again. I mean what has he done really? Check out
@MNwrestle
for accurate rankings.
Randy Baker asked if I heard about the earthquake west of town. When I said no he said it was over by the SD border and Pipestone just fell in the hole.
We wrestled at the Rumble on the Red and placed 3rd out of 59 to 71 teams. Their website says 71 but track says 59 so ... I know we placed 3rd. I thought we wrestled well but New Prague got to take the belt home this year. We did get a little trophy though. See pic below
At 195 Sam Dunker gets the match of the night! He defeated the
#6
ranked 195 pounder in the state 6-4. It was great to come out on the winning side of a close match against a great wrestler. We have been knocking on the door for quite a while and it was nice to kick it down!
At 285 Keldon Bennet was 6th. It was great to see him get on the podium. It was great having him with us this year and I have a lot of respect for this courageous young man. Thank you Keldon
@WrestlingJCC
9th grade and under wrestling team won the region 1 team duals tonight in Fairmont. By winning the region the qualified for the state team tournament this weekend in Mora MN. The guys wrestled great and had a lot of fun. It was a great night of wrestling.
Some tough Flat Earth wrestlers doing what it takes to be the best this week
@ThornWrestling
camp. I'm proud of these guys and their desire to get better. Be proud of your effort and keep chopping wood.
We placed 3rd out of 13 teams. We were behind
#2AA
FMCW and
#6AA
Marshall but ahead of
#5A
Blue Earth Area. We had 11 out of our 12 wrestlers place in the top 6 and 4 wrestlers earn all conference honors by placing in the top 3 of a very tough conference.
Don't forget to come watch
@WrestlingJCC
take on state ranked ACGC Tuesday night at home. It is also hall of fame night.
@JoeSkow
Luke and Laura Henning and Rose Schultz are all being inducted. Don't miss it!!! JV at 6 followed by induction and Varsity.
We started off beating
#11
AAA Apple Valley MN 42-19. Then we defeated
#21
AAA Glenbard North Illinois 38-24. Then we defeated the French Wisconsians
#2
AA Prarie du Chen 42-26 in what I will consider our best fight and effort of the year.
At 132,
@ambrose_nolan
won in Nolan like fashion. Dominating on his way to the finals. In the finals, it was two past state champions wrestling and Nolan came out on top 8-4.
At 113 pounds
@kieanderson23
placed 3rd and gave the eventual state champion his toughest match of the tournament. If people were not aware of how tough this guy is, ...
They are now.
Congratulations Kie. Great season
Blake Rossow was phenominal behind the wheel as always getting us to Pipestone and I am going to assume home safely. He also educated me a little on pigeons and partidges.
I would like to welcome everyone back to wrestling and my humble attempt to recap the events of the day on the old twitter machine. I didnt know if would still run because it has been in the back of the garage for so long, but it started up on the second pull so hear we go!
I am proud of all of our wrestlers today. It takes a lot of guts to go out in front of everyone with no one else to blame (or credit) for what happens out there. I believe this is what makes wrestlers the most humble, hardworking, determined subset of humans on the planet!
Section individuals are next week at home. Clear your calendar and come out to support the home team. Put your PTO in for next Thursday as well. I recommend getting a hotel room too and staying for individuals because it's going to be a great weekend!
At 160
@PHandevidt
was 4-0 with 4 falls in dominating fashion. So dominating in fact the majority of the other coaches voted him as MVP of the tournament. Congratulations Payton!
Winning the tournament and qualifying for state were Nolan Ambrose at 94 pounds Seth Stai at 106 pounds and Dylan Withers at 126 pounds. Congratulations young men!
Payton Handevidt wrestled 120 twice and 126 once. He was 3-0 with 2 falls and a major. He also earned his 50th win of his career. Congratulations Payton! Many more to come!
In our final dual of the day we lost to nationally ranked Waverly Shell Rock 33-28. We split the matches 7-7 against a nationally ranked team. They had a few more bonus points than us but we had them on the ropes for a while.
At 195
@samdunkerr
broke through and claimed the championship today. He told me on the bus that this felt like the one today. He was right! Congratulations
I almost forgot. Our team finished in 1st place out of 20 teams to win the region 1 9th grade league wrestling tournament. Very proud of the whole team. Great work guys. Here is a picture of a couple of them that were not in the locker room yet.
The JV also wrestled great today with 8 champions and a bunch of other great efforts. The 8 champs were Dallas Gossen, Cael Entriken, UB, Tate Phillips, Carson Kolander, Braeden Tufvesson, Braeden Erickson, and Big Mike!
At 152
@PHandevidt
won his 2nd state title and
@WrestlingJCC
's 42nd. He will have his cousin surrounded on the wall. Great work Payton. The 2nd one is usually tougher because of all the expectations but you handled it great.
Finally I would like to thank our media coverage tonight.
@PilotSports
and
@kkojradio
for covering us tonight and a shout out to
@jboogerd
making his debut on the radio. Go J CC!
Also wrestling 170 pounds was
@SethStai
. Seth was 3-1 on the day and placed 3rd. He was one early whistle away from having an all JCC finals at 170. He lost a heart breaking match in OT in the semi's. Seth improved to 10-5 on the year with his performance today.
