Players need to get mad at the league or its rules (enforcement of rules), rather than other players, if they want to protect their heads. The NHL has allowed similar hits. A player like Ovechkin is going to do whatever it takes to win as long as the league doesn't punish it.

I also notice that no one is talking about Kreider cross-checking Romanov in the head after he falls to his knees and the puck is long-gone. You can single out missed penalties, or you can look at the game as a whole. Either way the Rangers have nothing to cry about.

If you go up-and-down the NYI lineup, they have enough talent to compete. Sorokin, Nelson, Horvat, Barzal, Holmstrom, Varlamov, Pulock and Dobson are good players this season. Palmieri, Engvall, Pelech, and Romanov are capable of being better than average. It's not over.

If Romanov keeps scoring, opponents can't simply cheat towards Dobson. The more Romanov proves he is dangerous, the more effective Dobson can be, in the offensive zone.

Going back to the beginning of 2018-19, there are 152 NHL defensemen who played 1200+ minutes 5v5. Twelve of those defensemen have an on-ice save% above .936. Five of the 12 are Isles: .944 Toews (1st) .941 Mayfield (4th) .941 Pelech (5th) .938 Boychuk (9th) .936 Pulock (12th)

Pelech and Pulock are: (a) two years younger than Streit when he joined NYI (b) seven years younger than Visnovsky when he joined NYI Their declines (especially Pelech) are not normal for 29 yr old defensemen. Injuries suck.

Isles played a terrible 2nd period last night. The 3rd was also bad, until MacLean beat out an icing roughly half-way through it. After that I thought Isles were decent. Huge play by MacLean, to alleviate some pressure.
