For those unaware, the community has suffered a loss. As creator of the higan project, Near documented the SNES (and other platforms) and contributed selflessly to preservation in so many other ways. We've decided to not stream tonight. Our hearts just aren't in it today.
It's finally here! We hope that this pretty danged complete overview of MiSTer will help others see that it can be a fun way to do retro gaming and isn't nearly as difficult as you might think! Maybe longtime users learn something new too!
Its finally happening. After having around 250 stand alone discs on hand for the past several years, we're finally getting our M2 Complete Works documentary packaged to sell in the coming weeks. Hopefully interest is still there!
It’s been a bit quiet over here so far this year, but that’s because we’ve been diligently working on a MiSTer video that will hopefully be out on Thursday. Run time is looking to be right around 2:40. Two hours, forty minutes.
Working on "The Games We Played in 2020" episode for Thursday has me looking at two photos of this basement just about 1 year apart. Moved into this house NYE last year.
M2: Complete Works dives into the history of the Japanese game developer responsible some of the most elaborate ports of retro games to modern platforms.
We are proud to present the trailer for M2: Complete Works, an hour long documentary on this history of the talented Japanese game developer. This documentary will be included on a Blu-ray disc with the Battle Garegga LE from
@LimitedRunGames
on May 10th
I have been working on a gaming setup tour video and I can't get over this clip of my dog, Nellie. The timing of my zoom in and my her head turn was too perfect. It needs to be seen and shared.
Probably trivial to most, but I’ve been learning to solder and have been changing out all the dead or aging batteries in my games. I’ve done over 25 of them so far!
Welp, it happened! Thanks to everyone who made this journey possible. We never thought we'd reach this point when we launched the channel on 10/1/ 2013. But by sticking to our vision, we've been very lucky to have the success we have. Thank you everyone for all of your support
We mentioned it during last night’s livestream, but we are thrilled to say that our M2 Complete Works (
@M2_game
) documentary was selected for the
@Official_GDC
film festival! It’s a huge honor and we’re gonna do our best to try to attend and do a Q&A afterwards!
I notice Popeye is trending, so here's a reminder that THIS 3D background appeared in a cartoon back in 1936(!). It was created using "The Stereoptical Process", which used a model as a background to 2D animation. Wow.
@Gamer_Canada
Why not mention us directly? Seems pretty weak to say it with a hashtag. Imagine having so little ambition that this is how you spend a Saturday afternoon. LOL.
If you've ever asked yourself, "How does the internet still not have an all-encompassing SNES Super Scope video that showcases every single game that can be played with it?" then today's episode is for you! (It's also for you if you never asked that.)
We're proud to finally release the first episode of ANALOG FRONTIERS. Part 1 is all about the vintage gaming scene through the lens of multiple people who contribute to the technology and information that keep classic games playable and in the public eye.
Project A-Ko is my favorite anime of all time, and I just found out that I’m listed under the special thanks of the new remaster. I had no idea, I just gave a little feedback - to be listed on such an important release of a movie that means so much to me. It’s pretty surreal.
"Analog Frontiers - Part 3: Preservation and Replication" focuses on the ways that games are being made available for future generations... and the challenges of making sure they're accurately represented.
Ever just sit back and look at the sheer amount of options available to vintage gaming enthusiasts these days? Stuff constantly being developed, announced and released. There's an option for just about everyone - and more keep coming. Its truly a golden age right now. Enjoy it.
I thought long and hard about what the number one game that everyone would like to see downscaled to 240p via the RetroTINK 5X and the answer was clear
Perhaps I’m too nostalgic for this stuff, but I was able to bring my save file from my Phantasy Star Complete Collection (JPN PS2 Classic on PS3) playthrough of Phantasy Star 1 to my original cartridge. Yes, it went PlayStation 3 to Master System.
ANALOG FRONTIERS is a 5-part documentary series that we've been planning for two years. It's surreal that even 1/5 is finished. Future episodes are written and the goal is to release roughly one a month, starting now. Regular episodes and MLiG minis will also release in between!
MLiG is back! This time, Coury has channeled his passion for preserving his save file history into an episode that's all about useful ways to backup, transfer, and restore data on memory cards for PS1, PS2, N64, Dreamcast, Xbox, and GameCube!
The 2560x1440 mode on the experimental RetroTINK 5X is pretty crazy for 720p content! Mike hasn't made a final decision on whether it will be rolled into release firmware, but it has us seriously rethinking how we should be hooking up PS3, 360, and Wii U. Can add scanlines too!
We've got a 42 minute deep dive into the Mega Sg, the FPGA Sega Genesis/Master System by
@analogue
! Full analysis of video settings, audio tweaks, general features, and compatibility!
Absolutely zero chance I’m gonna renew my PS+ subscription at that price. Even though it should be free, I’d pay 20 a year to just have the cloud save backup. That’s the only thing I use with PS+ as it is.
Today is the 10 year anniversary of the launch of the MLiG channel. Yes, a decade! For tonight's livestream we're streaming games from our first two videos at the same time! Come and hang out
Huge thanks to
@StoneAgeGamer
for showing me around the store and all the cool goodies that they have in the back! It was great to finally make this long overdue stop!
No game makes me feel like this one. It makes something well up inside me in a way that is hard to describe. It’s a transcendental experience that gets better every time I play through it.
I do suppose this is the inevitable result of not keeping enough classic games available and doing it poorly when you do. Quite the policy shift for
@PlayStation
here!
I think a big question to consider about this PlayStation 3, PSP and Vita stores going down is... I wonder if it could possibly have an effect on games being patchable. If that ability is also gone, that's scary.
99% of the game footage in the new episode was recorded in 4K shooting off a CRT. I'm thinking of uploading all of the footage as a single video to our bonus play list. Would anyone be interested in that?
Rest in Peace Reiko Kodama. She’s had the most profound effect on me than any other game designer and is probably the biggest reason MLiG even exists in the first place. Her work has influenced countless others the same. A monumental loss. This one really, really hurts.
In the first of the documentaries we shot over the course of last year, we met Tom duBois, the artist behind the iconic box art for many of Konami's 8 and 16-bit games.
The Nintendo Switch Online classic controllers for NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis are useful for WAY more games than the ones Nintendo intends them to be used for. Our latest episode features well over 120 Switch games we tested with these controllers!
$15 thrift store find today. Missing a dial, can probably come up with a replacement of some kind easily enough. Otherwise great condition! Thought the pedals were missing, but they were set under a steering wheel controller they didn't belong with!
We have limited stock of our M2: Complete Works documentary Blu-ray available for sale on our website. If these sell quickly and there is demand, we'll move forward with having more made immediately.
If anything, moving to a new house has shown me just how out of control my wire situation is. The sheer amount was staggering. Going forward, I’ve resolved to use zip ties to wrap up everything I’m not using and get this all under control and accessible.
We had a chance to take a look at
@Voultar
's SNES 2CHIP Edge Enhancer mod. At long last, 1CHIP levels of sharpness can be achieved on earlier Super NES consoles!
Huge, huge thank you to everyone who came out to our livestream last night making it our most successful since we started doing them 6 years ago. The community thats been built around doing these every week is incredible, and we love spending our Sunday nights with you all!
I know everyone's into Zelda right now, but check out the new episode on using a PS2 Slim power supply on your retro consoles! This thing is super useful, and you might have one laying around already!
We have a “Little Library” in front of our house they people can take and leave books in if they want. Today someone left this in ours - they have no idea how much it’s appreciated!
Got my
@8bitmods
MemCard Pro today. That, combined with the
@_ramapcsx2
X-Station,
@PixelFXco
PS1 Digital and
@brookgamingfans
wireless adapter (connected to a Dual Shock 3) my PlayStation 1 has achieved its ultimate form.
If
@fromsoftware_pr
brought 3-D Dot Game Heroes to the Nintendo Switch it would be a massive hit. It was so ahead of its time 2009 and would do amazing with today’s audience. Let’s see if we can convince them to make it happen

Being listed as some people’s favorite creators of the year is very humbling. Thank you to everyone who has watched the show and put up with us obviously reading off of a teleprompter!
What a great experience this weekend. I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about all of the amazing people I’ve had a chance to meet due to making MLiG. Sometimes it feels like an overwhelming amount of work, but I wouldn’t change a thing. We have been so lucky. Thank you.
Just dug out my Star Fox Super Weekend winner flight jacket. Anyone know what the value is on these tend to be now? It’s barely worn (never outside of a house). Are certain sizes more valuable than others? This is an Extra-Large.
If you missed it, we released part 3 of our Analog Frontiers documentary series. This installment covers Preservation and Replication of games and hardware.
