Baffled by this. After highlighting the fact nearly 2000 teachers in Scotland are essentially on a zero hours contract, some who haven't had a days work all year...the response is we need more teachers? No. Stop training people for jobs that don't exist. Fix the system first!

Prelim revision...but make it fun! Past paper questions sealed in an envelope, pupils select their envelope at random and complete the question in exam conditions. Will get them to put their answer back in the envelope with no name - hello, anonymous peer marking @Humanities_KSS

@EISUnion Scotland has thousands of fully trained teachers working in supermarkets and reliant on food banks because there are no teaching jobs available. Scotland doesn't need to train more teachers, it needs to find jobs for those its abandoned.

I genuinely cannot believe its August. The summer holidays really just fly in, don't they ? Time to start the checklist- haircut, buy clothes that fit, find tights with no toe holes & buy a batch of nice pens ill lose on the first week 🤓😅

My current S4 class are my first national class to ever go to the exam. So the pressure is on a little! Today I told them that l just wanted them to focus on getting a pass in the prelim. No pressure for A's- just survive the experience and do their best. Got this email tonight!

Delivery Day ❤️👌 @TPositiveTC planner number 4 👏 I bought my first one as a gift to myself for passing probation and then for the next 3 years I bought one to manifest another year of supply work! Planner number 4 commemorates my first year as a permanent part of the team! 😊

The staffing situation for teachers in Glasgow just makes me sad. Looking like another year of unsecured employment, likely general supply, because there's such a surplus of social subjects teachers without jobs. This is just unsustainable.

My S1 classes watched a poverty documentary which showed families relying on foodbanks for Christmas Dinner. For some of them this was their first introduction to poverty & its consequences. They asked me if they could bring in some donations & asked me to help them help others.

I lasted 10 days undercover in the "Us For Them" group before I was rumbled 😅 after teaching some members how council tax works, explaining that one teacher cannot deliver a subject to the whole UK and giving a quick history on devolution- I was outed as a teacher sympathiser 😅

Doing job applications today & detailing the short but sweet 7 weeks I spent at @LochendHigh . Its a testament to the school that despite only being there a 7 weeks its my favourite school I've ever worked at. Fab staff and fab kids although having my own classroom didn't hurt 😅

Left school with nothing after experiencing what we now call ACE's. Off to college to find subject's like sociology which I ❤️. 4 years at UWS while I worked full time as a retail manager, rejected from the PDGE course twice and when I did get in along came Elijah! #NoWrongPath

If you are going to invest a boat load of cash to ensure a subject is taught to pupils down south - instead of Latin, I can't help but think it should be modern studies. It's always baffled me that it's not taught elsewhere, bias though I may be, I feel it's fairly important!

@anns1956 @Katy_primary97 She could have interviewed for the permanent job before the temporary. There's a turn around for feedback and offers ? Shes under no obligation just to take the first offer because its seen as a moral obligation. The permanent job is the secure employment, its a no brainer.

2.5 yrs ago I started my 1st teaching placement at Rosshall Academy My PT there recommended a book to me, my first bit of professional reading as a teacher. Poverty Safari - Darren McGarvey. Tonight I'm sat here telling my N5 class to read it after #bbcqt . A nice bit of symmetry!

Tomorrow is results day! This year I sent my first ever cohort to the exam- exams had been cancelled since my probation year. So my S4 class last year will forever be a special one for me. I've got everything crossed for them that they get the results they deserve tomorrow 🙌

@APBfinished @STVNews Teachers work more unpaid overtime than any other profession. This is widely reported. Larger class sizes, lack of resources, no time for development or marking, huge percentage of teachers unable to find work even casually. Our working conditions are their learning conditions

I benefited today from two great initiatives our school runs. Firstly the senior barista class brought me a much needed cuppa tea this morning & then our fab S4 boys valeted my car! All while I taught the day away 😊 Thank you @allsaintsrcsec .

I've just seen a factoid in an article that made my jaw drop. Theres more food banks in the UK than there is McDonalds. I just can't get my head around it. I have 4 Mcdonalds in walking distance from my home, 2 from my work...it just gives you such a relatable figure...

I sing the praises of @LochendHigh anywhere I go. I spent a few weeks there last year and it's the most welcome I've felt anywhere. Clear expectations, active behaviour policy, involved staff and pupils who surprised me every day. This is how you meet learners needs ❤

@Gemma_clark14 I absolutely fully support the strike. The removal of labour is absolutely the way for workers to have their voices heard. But we go into teaching for lots of different reasons and I don't think it's a bad thing that we can empathise with those who our strike impacts x

My local morrisons are doing a foodbank drive where you buy a priced bag which contains the essentials for Christmas Dinner for a family. Works out about £6 a bag for a family of 4 to have a Christmas dinner. Donated 4 yesterday- so easy, you just scan the bag with your shopping.

Finding it very validating to be marking prelims with good N5 answers and see my name on the page as their teacher. I did that- I taught this information that's enabling you to do well. It's a very nice moment for someone who is finally heading to the exams with my own N5 class!
