CNBC: Disney will acquire Fox, marking a major shift in the media landscape and potentially erasing one of the major studios from the marketplace
INTERNET: Tony Stark is gonna drive the FantastiCar!
People comparing the box office of BOOKSMART from 2019 and SUPERBAD from 2007 are missing something kinda key about the time in which those films were released.
It's now August, and I still don't understand how the world hasn't uniformly come around to recognize THE LAST JEDI as a great movie.
I work in indie film.
@rianjohnson
- I joined Focus almost two years after BRICK. I have no horse in the race.
I have young children, so I can't watch as much as I want, but some of my favorite things I didn't work on released in 2022 are BARBARIAN, TAR, AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, PREY, and most of all, RRR, the only film I have seen in theaters more than twice in more than 20 years.
@davidlsims
The biggest hole in this theory though is that Lydia Tar knew enough about “Monster Hunter” to have a dream about conducting a live concert featuring its score
@minhalbaig
It was! Comparing viewing habits from then to now is like comparing transcontinental travel times before and after the invention of the jet engine
Happy to confirm that after this mornings nominations, LEAVE NO TRACE not only still exists and is available to watch on the platform of your choice, but is also still wonderful, and a thing I am very proud to be a small part of.
@JoshMalina
In the "Saved by the Bell" sequel, Zack Morris is apparently Governor of California, so I have chosen to look at that show as a prequel to the West Wing sequel, where Zack Morris is now President
There are correct ways to watch certain movies. Maybe ROMA is on the big screen. It is not in dispute, however, that the best way to watch DADDY'S HOME 2 is over someone's shoulder as they watch it on an airplane
I think we all want to get excited about the Trump / Cohen Playboy tape, but I can assure you that this, like everything else, will do nothing.
Let's all vote in November, take the House, who can subpoena his tax returns. Now THAT would be a thrill.
After watching the MARY POPPINS RETURNS trailer and EDGE OF TOMORROW no rational person could make a case for Emily Blunt not being in every movie going forward and re-edited into every movie that heretofore existed
Michael Keaton is back as Batman. Harrison Ford is back as Indy. But if we really want to get serious about bringing back 1989 we must put a bomb underneath Danny Glover’s toilet
what if I told you that the Samsung TV at the Bleecker Street condo at Sundance would randomly SWITCH BACK to motion smoothing every 30 minutes? Can you make a horror movie / write a letter / explode them
EXCLUSIVE: Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang will star in Bleecker Street and Shivhans Pictures’ remake of Ang Lee’s 1993 romantic comedy “The Wedding Banquet” from director Andrew Ahn.
Of all the movies that led to Paul Verhoeven being chased out of big budget Hollywood, why did it have to be STARSHIP TROOPERS, an empirically great movie that has aged like fine wine as society meanders towards fascism
PARASITE in breaking box office records, THE FAREWELL and THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON are breakout success stories, and JOJO RABBIT with THE LIGHTHOUSE are about to join them. But let’s please mourn the indie theatrical business.
People go see great movies.
Today was my last day in the New York office of Bleecker Street. Onto the next chapter in LA! (Yes, still with Bleecker - I’m going to spend most of my time teaching Angelinos that it’s not spelled “Bleeker”)
@davidehrlich
what if Trump is already in hell, this is his punishment, and the entire planet - and all of us - exist only to make his existence more painful?
or is that thought too comforting for these dark times
Today was a bummer. We tried, financially, spiritually, and otherwise. I am so proud of all the accolades our films won this year.
Onwards. Tomorrow we will announce some stuff. Then again later this week. And on and on again.
The Netflix / Cannes arguments out there seem to largely ignore the underlying source of the tension - France’s wildly outdated national window of restrictions. Without them, probably a moot point.
I have secured a house, and also schools for our more diminutive kin, so I am happy to announce that me, my family, and all our nonsense are moving to Los Angeles next month.
HEARTS BEAT LOUD, proving that word of mouth is still a thing, managed to essentially hold its per screen average, despite a combination of 25% more screens AND a falloff on Sunday (Father's Day was last weekend)
It’s been almost 30 years since my father pulled me out of school for a “family emergency” to go see BATMAN RETURNS. On Friday, we’ll see a movie together for the first time in years for his 70th birthday.
You think he looks cool because he paid people to make him look cool. He used the entire resources of state and empire to make himself look cool to future generations. And meanwhile millions of people died, because peace amongst equals was alien to him.
HUGELY excited to be doing this, especially with
@lauralewis27
behind it all.
‘Mr. Malcolm’s List’ With Freida Pinto, Constance Wu Sells to Bleecker Street (EXCLUSIVE) via
@variety
I have never been so proud as anything professionally as I am of
@bleeckerstfilms
' 2018 slate. Between DISOBEDIENCE next week & films like LEAVE NO TRACE, MCQUEEN, COLETTE & much more on the way, I can't wait to help share these wonderful movies in theaters across the country.
It's fun to look at the blockbusters and all, but let's not sleep on the ongoing success of
@MagnoliaPics
' THELMA, which will be their biggest gross since RBG back in 2018. They opened it like the experts they are, and it is sticking around, because it's wonderful
So good is this movie that we are willing endure the weirdness of releasing one film called TOGETHER, and another called TOGETHER TOGETHER...in the same year
@kylegriffin1
@ScottFeinberg
nobody is saying you're saying that, but this is the sort of thing you are dangling because you are drawing a dotted line to it. Otherwise, it's not today's news.
I also feel the need to point out that no one should be surprised when ANYONE leaves the Trump admin.
In this age of divisiveness I hope we can all agree that keeping the shell and / or tail on shrimp when mixing it with pasta is very bad and should be considered a felony
Thrills me to no end that we can announce a Brooklyn hipster sci-fi comedy yesterday and follow that up with a Mike Leigh movie this morning. Hooray for
@bleeckerstfilms
@GriffLightning
@cosmicbooknews
“Compared to BLACK PANTHER” is my favorite metric provided here, because of course every film needs to gross within shouting distance of AVATAR. My company was proud of LEAVE NO TRACE at $6mm+. There are many, many thresholds of success.
Always makes me feel good about our industry when I watch someone sitting in front of me on a flight watch an hours worth of movie trailers before finally deciding to stare at the inflight map for 4 hours
@kylegriffin1
@ScottFeinberg
This is totally implausible. Far MORE plausible is Trump's assertion that Nikki Haley told him six months ago that she was going to resign just three weeks before the midterms and he was totally cool with it
Weekend box office has a lot of encouraging things in it - a non-sequel making more than $50mm, a completely original low-mid budget comedy inching towards $20mm, and several foreign language films cresting the $1mm mark. Movies!
I am obviously supporting Biden and the DNC, but can someone please show me the research that suggests that texting and emailing someone more than 20x a day is helpful?
My 5 year old woke up at 5 AM, shook me awake, and said "Daddy, I don't like ketchup on my hot dogs, I only like mustard."
You are the future, my son. Raze the armies of nonbelievers, for you have alongside your sword the truth
