You wouldn’t wear Crocs on the football field, on a wrestling mat, during a race. Have a tiny bit of discipline and show up with the appropriate foot wear to train in the weight room. Little things matter.
A 30 to 40 min training session with a few reps of maximal effort and a few sets of sub-maximal effort isn’t going to affect your club sports game performance 9 hours later. Your poor nutrition, and sleeping habits will. Put some weight on the bar and get stronger. 🦅💪🏻

Hold those young ladies that show up to your summer training to the same standards as you do your football players. They’re also there to get better, and they’ll probably appreciate it more. Finish, touch the line, give your best effort. 💪🏻
I don’t really care about the language your parents/guardians allow you to use in casual conversation, but dropping F bombs in the weight room is an easy way to find yourself looking for a gym membership. Respect others, know your audience.
Somewhere around 100 athletes participated in this morning’s wrestling practice. It’s great to see so many football players out. This is the first year of our program that both the boy’s and girl’s teams placed in the top 3 at a tournament. Girls took 1st Boys 3rd.
Proud of what this kid has accomplished. She finishes her high school career a 3x State Qualifier, 2x State finalist, UIL state champion, U16 Freestyle state champion, and a Folk style AA. She overcame a season ending knee injury only to come back and win state her senior year.
Had a longtime coach tell me… “Make time for your girls. I’ve spent my entire career raising other peoples kids, I looked up one day and mine were gone.”
My 5 YO son told me on Saturday, "I wish you never grew up to be a football coach, so you wouldn't have to be gone to football work all the time."
Glad to gain back some family time with the end of Freshman season and Varsity earning a Bye this week.
It's harder on family
One of the most exciting games I played in. The Bulldogs rolled into Tuscaloosa for “The Show Down In T-Town.” They had Heisman candidate and record setting QB Eric Zeier at the helm. It was a back and forth battle that Tide won 29-28 on a 4th qt field goal.
Proud of this kid. ruptured her ACL. Missed her entire Jr. year. Rehabbed and Trained her tail off to find herself on top of the State podium her Sr. year.

A friendly reminder pulling a clean from the floor doesn’t make it a “power clean”. It’s just called a clean. Depending on where you catch the bar will determine if its a “power clean”. You can do “power cleans” from the hang position.
When I see clean progressions broken down like this I’m reminded how much time is dedicated to one exercise. I understand why coaches choose not to use olympic lifts. I choose to do variations of partial
movements of the exercise. It saves us time and keeps things a lot simpler.
Often neglected in training the neck can protect our brains from bouncing off the sides of our skull. It is important that you train the neck. Especially if you participate in a collision or combative sports.
The girls will head to Wichita Falls Texas this season for Eaton’s first ever State Dual invitation.  With them they bring a lot of experience, including;  district champions, regional champions, state placers, and a USAW All American. 💪🏻 🦅
What I’ve learned coaching high school kids is, sometimes it’s better that the father in you comes out and not the coach. I’ve raised a couple of teenagers already. That experience alone has been valuable.
I will be going on my 3rd year as a High School S&C coach. I like going to clinics ran by other HS S&C coaches. The logistics of HS S&C is different for about every HS Coach I have heard from, it’s something I find interesting. Something I never knew when I was coaching college.
I went to a Strength Clinic today. There was some great information being shared. I asked a presenter that works with Football and Power lifting, “Who writes the S&C programs for the other sports?” He told me the sports coaches. This shouldn’t be happening. 🤦🏻♂️🧵

Trigger warning…
I don’t know if it’s because of my wrestling background, but as a football player at Alabama, mat drills were my favorite part of the offseason. Probably because I enjoyed watching my teammates break from what we did for a warmup during wrestling season.
Remember playing football is a privilege, not a right. There are certain responsibilities for a student athlete. You represent your school, team, family and most importantly yourself. Practice at a high level, elevate yourself and your teammates. Have a great spring season.🦅💪🏻
So… Is it new to some people that athletes need to, Skip, hop, jump, bound, change direction, sprint, move sub maximal weights fast and not just “lift heavy weights”. Did I miss something?
