I found it pretty frustrating. There're some wonderful flourishes of creativity and action, but also so much of it is explaining and elaborating on things in Fury Road that were much more powerful as insinuations or hints of backstory that provoked the imagination.

I think sometimes Natalie Portman can come across as insincere in her performances, but that was very well utilized in May December. On one level the film is basically about two manipulative people, who are manipulative in different ways, trying to out-manipulate each other.

I see a lot of recent films going for the dark, desaturated look and I think they end up being visually kind of bland or ugly, but I think Sleepy Hollow is a film that has a beautiful version of that look though. I suspect it has to do with being pre-digital colour grading.

I like the floaty move they gave to the gremlin in Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. It's so much more eerie and unnatural than if they tried to make it look like it could fly in any conventional sense. Designed as more of a cloud monster than a bat-like creature.

Part of what made Fury Road great was that you could tell that everyone and everything had a thought out backstory even though it was never explicitly stated, and that you were just plonked into that world and had to piece together what you could through context as it went along.
