I save 50% of my income
That's ~$2,638 / month (after tax)
It hasn't been easy reaching this point
But here are the top 5 things that have gotten me here
A 🧵
Does anybody on Twitter/X actually want personal finance info?
Or all we all just creating it and hyping each other up but helping no one?
Just a question
@DividendDudeYT
In my opinion, getting that employer match is a MUST. It is literally an immediate, guaranteed 100% return. Who cares if it happens to cost you a bit more in taxes down the road? Fine, call it a 90% guaranteed immediate return. That’s still better than any other investment. Past

To some, that's boring
To some, that's astounding
To me, it's beautiful growth that I'm proud of
No plans to slow down anytime soon, so stay tuned
~8% of my emergency fund gone 🙁
I recently had to dip into it for the first time
Of course it's frustrating
But it would have been horrifying if I didn' t have one

40+ years at one job 💼
I know several people in this position
And none of them have achieved their financial goals
A single employer will never give you the success that finding new opportunities will
Easy budgeting framework
The 50-30-20 Rule
% of your income
50% for needs
30% for wants
20% for savings/investing
This may not be perfect for everyone
But it will quickly get beginners on the right track
I have turned down $20k+ raises 💰
That isn't to brag
These raises would have come with job descriptions I would have hated
Instead, I prioritized my well-being over some more money
And I'll never regret that
Welcome new followers! 👋
Here is a quick story of who I am and my personal finance path
----------------------------
Growing up, I fortunately never had to worry about money.
I was certainly taught to use it carefully, but we never worried about whether we would have
I've been stuck at ~600 followers for a bit
Have I been frustrated? Abso-freaking-lutely
Am I trying to provide any less value? Nope
Will I give up? Heck no

@Acosta
@CNN
See you're buying into exactly that
One single trans person commits this horrible act, and they should be crucified
20 straight white people do it? Nah, not worth mentioning
Yooooo we made it to 100 followers!!
This feels amazing considering I was struggling to gain followers on Twitter as much as Instagram
Thank you to everyone that has supported me
I’m so grateful for the amazing people I have met in comments and DMs
Let’s keep this rolling 🙏🏻
Do tweets that "blow up" generate many followers?
This is only my first, so the sample size is small
But is makes me wonder whether they move the needle much
It's my birthday!
I'm now a quarter century old
I've learned so much since starting to build this brand around the time of my last birthday
Here's to everything I'll learn before the next one 🥂
P.S. probs won't be on today. Stay safe
It's frustrating to withdraw from an emergency fund
Know what's more frustrating?
Needing $1,500 to cover an emergency
And not having it available
I was able to avoid that
And for that, I'm grateful
Building something outside of my job
Has given me a new perspective on life
I no longer see my job as the only thing I'm working on
Find something in your life that does the same for you
Finding my "why"s has changed my life
Why:
-I want money
-I want success
-I want more free time
Knowing why I want these things
Makes me far more willing to chase after them
This broke my brain 🧠
I've seen people on X leaving their partners for success
Don't treat your partner as an obstacle
Treat them as the goal
-To support them
-To take care of them
-To have more time with them
I'd rather be with my fianceé
Than be rich
What I love about content creation
Scalability 📈
Want more money? Put in more work
Want more time? Put in less work
Need a break? Schedule ahead
Want to grow? Hire out
This just isn't possible in a 9-5
@GuyTalksFinance
Many start families far earlier than they'd like due to lack of sexual education and lack of access to abortions, so a 17 y/o finishing high school may be stuck in minimum wage
Or someone who just moved here from another country with little to no prior education
Or graduated
I love good problems
I have now reached a point where it's hard to keep up with X replies
That isn't to brag
I'm just proud of where I've reached
I will still continue to respond to everyone who leaves meaningful replies
Let's keep growing 🌱
Luck does exist
Events that are out of your control
Yet happen to you or others regardless
That doesn't mean you don't deserve your success
It just means you were able to make use of the advantages given to you
Investing can give you access to returns otherwise only accessible to the ultra wealthy
There is no other way to take part in the financial success of Coca Cola
My tweets haven’t been doing well
Recently, I’ve seen a noticeable decline in views
Even as I feel like my tweets are getting better
Not gonna lie, I’m frustrated
But it doesn’t have to be the end
I want to improve in any way I can

How to avoid making short-term, rash investment decisions
Set up automatic investments for ALL your spare income so you don't FOMO into a run
I know that when I wouldn't automate everything, I would make rash decisions with my leftover savings
My savings rate has dropped
Temporarily
And that's okay with me
I'm helping a loved one cross a bridge to a better place financially
I can't think of a better use for my wealth than that
Making YouTube videos is tough
I just made one covering how I save 50% of my income
Check it out to see how I got here
And how I'll continue to save more in the future
If I was to start investing today
I would throw my money straight into the overall market
Instead of trying my hand at day trading, options, and stock picking
I'd have ended up with noticeably less stress and noticeably more money 😂
Insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results
A day job is doing the same work for basically the same pay expecting to become wealthy
See the resemblance?
I have recently started leaning toward Barista FIRE
I used to prefer Fat FIRE
I like the idea of literally becoming a barista as a part-time job
And quitting whenever I want
A 3% raise isn't good enough for me
I work a 9-5 and know that realistically, no matter what I do, I will get a ~3% raise
Unless I switch jobs and hope for 8%
I'm working towards a life with far more potential and rewards than that
I'm fine with working.
I'm not fine with the norm.
I'm not fine with defined hours.
I'm not fine with doing as I'm told.
I'm not fine with asking for time off.
I'm not fine with crossing my fingers for a 4% raise.
I'm not fine with working to produce value for someone else.
90% of active traders fail to outperform the overall market
That's like walking up stairs
To reach the same achievement as someone taking the escalator
Be the one on the escalator
