#Sudan 's transition has already been a tough journey. With fighting COVID-19 being a new challenge, gov't should provide support to the vulnerable; ensure access to info & healthcare. Donors should step up for support. @HRW :

New from me: Sudan 🇸🇩 may not be in the headlines anymore but the people of Darfur deserve the world’s attention. The Rapid Support Forces & allied militias are on the move again. The hundreds of thousands of people sheltering in el Fasher fear the worst

For 100days, many of us Sudanese abroad watching with pain as 🇸🇩 descends further, many worry about their families and loved ones, mourning loss, and simply see very little hope as the world’s response remains muted. #KeepEyesonSudan

Impunity in #Sudan has for long been the norm. The last 2 years did little to address that. Instead, abusers especially those who sits high up the command chain wielded more power. No political process should lead down that path anymore.

A medic in #Khartoum just told me of raising number of wounded children, saying many are stuck at home and with limited ambulances and lack of safety in the roads- with sunset now approaching, providing needed and timely care will be even more challenging.

Thread: 1- Great to see reports that #Sudan ’s Cabinet just agreed to ratify two key international conventions: conventions against torture and enforced disappearances-but entering some reservations. They now has to be endorsed by the Sovereign Council.

2/ Sudan’s security forces have long stymied peaceful protests, by deploying military forces and illegally using lethal force - , this continued during the transition.

Read @belkiswille as she captures stories of some of the survivors from El Geneina, as we all now watching another atrocity unfolding in El Fashir. Urgent actions needed 2 protect civilians, allowing aid, and overall, putting plans in place to prevent atrocities across #Sudan

When the women saw one another, they each held their hands, palms up and started whispering condolences. Then they collapsed into each other and started sobbing. Zahra’s 17-year-old son was brutally executed by armed Arab militiamen outside of El Geneina

1/On the same week that Sudan’s coup leaders claimed to be willing to investigate their own abuses, this step shows how little interest the military has in allowing independent investigations.

I rarely share personal stories here, but just trying to reflect on how much loss, we Sudanese, experiencing, with int’l and regional actors dragging their feet to put pressure, but more importantly: how both warring parties shattered our lives, not even with this war but before
