2 State solution, Palestine's women's and LGBT rights policies must be at least as liberal as Israel's, integration for Jews and Arabs in both states, right of return for Palestinians but borders are gerrymandered to keep Israel majority Jewish. End settlements.
I will give $100 to the first person who solves the Israel-Palestine conflict. Put your solutions in the comments section of this tweet, and please limit yourself to no more than one reply.
@profmusgrave
I've gotten rejected from schools I felt I was qualified for, and I'm not dismissing how upsetting that is. But this kid could have easily gotten rejected for, say, a legacy student or a student whose dad gave the school two million, and the aunt/uncle doesn't care about that.
@michaeljknowles
Whatever “transgender ideology” means to you, outlawing ideology “at every level” is kind of incompatible with having free speech at any level.
@nuclear5over1
Keeping flag desecration legal is actually a huge policy priority for me, but didn't the protesters specifically destroy a flag that they didn't own, which would be theft/vandalism regardless of what kind of flag it was?
My take on homelessness that's likely to anger the left the most: mental illness is a big cause of homelessness, and "housing first" is flawed as a result.
@jackcurran49
In CO, when a teacher provokes an altercation with a student over not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance, the teacher gets arrested. In FL, when a teacher provokes an altercation with a student over not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance, the student gets arrested.
@politico
I still want to know why Gabbard said Harris was too conservative on “law and order,” then said Democrats were too liberal on that same topic.
@tubmanlivesinme
@MalanasQueendom
SOME Jewish Americans think they are superior to black people. In the aggregate, Jewish Americans are much more supportive of black equality than white Americans as a whole are.
@SnowHimbo
The guy who said America was founded by slaveowners who wanted to be free and said he had no problem with looting during Katrina would probably have a hard time fitting in with the Right.
@leftistbrayden
Trump’s anti-Obama racism was this bad, McCain and Romney played close to the edge on race but didn’t cross the lines Trump did and does, especially in terms of playing the race card against Obama himself.
@notkavi
I wrote a parody of this in a story scene recently where a YouTuber named Ur-Zababa of Kish is interviewing a guy named Tate Andrews, who explains he "picks up" women by being a literal bloodsucking vampire.
The trans male athlete in the picture was born in a female body. He was required to compete in the girls' division against his will because Texas policy required athletes to compete in the division that corresponded with their birth sex. The picture is missing key context.
@baseballcrank
By the 80s? When Reagan, who built his career partly by exploiting backlash to fair housing, tried to stack SCOTUS with opponents of the CRA, defended BJU, and coddled South Africa’s Apartheid regime while Dixiecrats cheered, was president?
@Anketimsi
@TrueSlazac
You can’t make assumptions about people based on their ethnicity or screen immigrants based on political views. You have to establish very strong legal safeguards for LGBT rights and respond homophobic immigrants the same way you do homophobic native born whites.
@lilbabygandhi
I agree the homophobia being shown by many conservative Muslims is vile, but “go back where you came from” is heavily tied to xenophobia and can veer into outright racism if the person in question is in fact originally from the country they’re living in.
@TWLadyGrey
@carldemaio
There seems to be kind of an inconsistency where a lot of conservatives say they don’t want regulations, but then they want regulations for zoning purposes.
@eScarry
@FDRLST
Do you actually have data showing an overrepresentation of trans people among mass shooters relative to population size? That would seem to be an implied premise of your article.
@USF_HB_Dive
@c350Zee
So we’ve dispensed with “the law only prohibits sexually explicit material and express discussions of transness and homosexuality” claim now?
Fun fact: Trump not only commuted an exceptionally low number of sentences but chose to largely commute them for people with personal connections to him or, in cases of people like Joe Arpaio, people whose convictions offended his reactionary sensibilities.
@David_Jorgonson
@nuclear5over1
Yeah, I’ve seen right wingers insist he got arrested for burning a Pride flag, and while I’ve long known that the Right can’t/won’t distinguish between burning your own vs someone else’s flag, I’m beginning to think segments of the Left can’t/won’t either.
@jtfdenver
@jackcurran49
I was saying Florida made it mandatory because it’s a statist hellscape, the more advanced Colorado made it optional and made it clear that teachers trying to force it and bullying kids over it wouldn’t be tolerated.
@StVincentGrad23
@nuclear5over1
It’s a huge priority because IMO, the right to protest the State very stridently and not be forced to meet someone else’s standard of patriotism is a vital civil liberty, and if we lose it, we’re very close to a police State.
@KareemRifai
@soland_michael
I made a point like this: Muslim societies typically treated Jews less badly than Christian societies pre-1945, but they didn’t typically treat Jews well.
Here’s a question that’s going to piss people off, but fuck it, since the gloves are off:
When have Jews ever been *institutionally* oppressed in the US?
I’m not talking about America turning away the M.S. St. Louis. I mean institutional oppression and pogroms of American Jews
@ClayTravis
Should her political views have been factored in? That seems like a bad precedent. If you get taken captive in Russia, do you want Biden to leave you there because of your political views?
Julie Andrews is too old for people to start making her trend out of context. Also, I was happy (and surprised in Van Dyke's case) to discover she and Dick Van Dyke are both liberal.
@benshapiro
It turns out stop the steal, reversing Roe, re-litigating gay marriage, condoning white supremacy, and having graphic meltdowns about trans kids every 5 minutes didn’t pay massive dividends with voters. Who knew?
@connordpeters
@ArmagnacFrancis
But the whole country was, so someone in another state really doesn't have grounds to criticize someone for going to Hawaii.
@SimonWDC
@McmOne
This has been a whirlwind, so forgive me if I’m misinformed, but wasn’t Biden doing way more campaign appearances pre-dropout than Trump is now?
@agraybee
If that’s what she said, that’s wrong. Are you sure she didn’t mean being an abolitionist was a fringe position in the U.S.? I’d probably rank that true.
@MrAnthonyWeiss
@DrewLinzer
@Civiqs
We'll never know now, LOL, but numbers like this are part of why I think Trump was probably going to lose to Biden again. Now it's time to help Harris win this thing.
@BradRTorgersen
@GPrime85
But that kid's rights were defended by the liberal governor and a liberal Congressman and quickly had the school's decision against him reversed, while kids have actually gotten in trouble in public schools for not standing during the Pledge, and the GOP does nothing about it.
@MattWalshBlog
This might be due largely to things such as women having an easier time escaping abusive marriages when they are no longer financially dependent on their husbands and some husbands still expecting wives to do the bulk of housework/parenting despite both spouses working.
@Timodc
@RN_MSN_Snark
Also, did Travis forget Trump promoted the vaccine in late 2020/early 2021 and still says it saved lives? (Kind of a broken clock moment for him!)
@RTodKelly
Also, would conservatives be happier if affluent liberals explained in detail the benefits of marrying later (well after losing your virginity), having fewer kids, and practicing full gender egalitarianism in the marriage?
My take on homelessness that's likely to anger the right the most: unless a homeless person with a mental illness is clearly posing a danger to someone, they shouldn't be forcibly removed from the streets or institutionalized. Also, most homeless people are not "lazy."
@jackrabbitrocks
Sure. Repeal of trans military ban, issuance of other executive orders on LGBT rights, halt of federal executions, prosecution of cops who killed Breonna Taylor, promotion of sweeping civil rights legislation blocked almost entirely by opposing party, etc.
@kennymxu
By what quantifiable metric besides public perceptions were race relations and racial equality better 20-30 years ago, and if it worked so well, why were racial profiling and employment discrimination still empirically shown to be serious problems?
@NRO
@HelloFrankLavin
Replacing Trumpism with Reaganism would be trying to cure authoritarian bigotry with a different brand of authoritarian bigotry? Censorship? Bigotry? Government control over our lives? We got it all with Reagan.
@RabbiJill
My take: neither Bernie nor Warren seem interested in making an issue out of the alleged conversation. It’s mostly their supporters who attacking the other candidate. Bernie and Warren are keeping it pretty civil.
Today marks 57 years since William F. Buckley's National Review magazine began publishing articles. A New York-based mag that openly defended the Jim Crow South, NR has been a cesspool of racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic trash since it began publication.
@twatterbaas
It's unrealistic to expect anti-Apartheid activists and the revolutionaries who took over when South Africa became semi-democratic to reverse all the effects of Apartheid and turn the country into a utopia in 30 years.
@benshapiro
@benshapiro
, I see the “I’m libertarian on same-sex marriage” schtick has been dispensed with, not that you were ever consistent when it came to lying about it.
@NYCKingDRBeast1
@DiscussingFilm
My historical specialty isn't ancient Egypt, but I've studied it a good bit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't she of primarily Greek ancestry? I agree there's a huge problem of whitewashed casting, but I'm not sure this is an example of that.
@agraybee
It’s untrue if she means opposing slavery was fringe. It’s arguably true if she means abolitionist, which refers to favoring immediate emancipation of all Southern slaves, something most Northerners opposed.
@katewillett
I will say in fairness to Bernie that he's discussed and championed issues specific to women, racial minorities, and LGBT people quite a bit.
@constans
If conservatives think Biff Tannen was the hero in Back To The Future, it'd explain why they think former arch-high school bully Romney was unfairly pilloried in 2012.
@agraybee
@girlgeek_rva
The Confederacy moving their capitol from 800+ miles from D.C. to only 120 miles from D.C. and deep 6ing POW swaps b/c they wanted to keep black POWs and white POWs who commanded black regiments even though POW swaps benefit the smaller army more gives Nazis a run for their money
Holy crap. The Rasmussen poll that Scott Adams cites found that 66% of black people believe black people can be racist. The poll results didn't make Scott Adams racist, Adams misrepresented the results to defend his preexisting racism. This is basic gaslighting.
I was terrified of a Haley, Scott, or Youngkin VP pick b/c I felt they could get Trump votes he wouldn't otherwise get. IMO, Vance gets Trump virtually no voters Trump didn't already have locked down and may well cost him some. What am I missing?
@Anketimsi
@TrueSlazac
Because free speech is a necessary right, and you can’t have a system under which a native born person is allowed to spout whatever homophobic garbage they want while a refugee is denied a visa for spouting the same garbage.
@TrueSlazac
@NjNeoliberals
My take is if you’re 18 or over, it should be your call if you want to consume tobacco, weed, meth, PCP, etc. The strongest case for restricting public consumption is for restricting where indoors you can smoke.
@fakegreekgrill
I don’t think continued troop presence in Afghanistan is viable, and human rights weren’t the state reason for our war there, but I absolutely think there are other ways we should exert pressure, such as conditioning aid, as Shabnam advocated.
@AyaRaalte
Apparently the movement saying "Jews aren't indigenous to a land they lived in and were forcibly driven out of thousands of years ago and should take the forcible displacement on the chin" (basically Matt Walsh with decolonization rhetoric) has an anti-Semitism problem. Who knew?
@poorlyreasoned
Polls have repeatedly shown ~70-75% of cons/Republicans think you should be prosecuted if you burn a U.S. flag you own. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poll where 1/3rd or more of cons/Republicans were tolerant on this issue.
@designmom
@DavidColeAIA
Imagine the right wing reaction if a leftist just kept repeating “trans women are women” in response to arguments and questions from a conservative and didn’t address any of the points they were being confronted with.
@LauraRbnsn
Also not sure what the problem with these numbers is. Many young women already have kids, many who don’t have them want them, and a chunk of young women are choosing not to have them. That’s what free choice looks like.
@LloydElwell
@MorningConsult
@JoshKraushaar
The top 2 Republicans are the 2 most liberal Republicans governors in the nation, and of the other 3 in the top 5, 2 are significantly less conservative than the party nationwide. Only Justice is a hardcore social conservative.
@benshapiro
Remind me, what did your boy Matt Walsh say about Josh Duggar 8 years ago, and how did that good Christian conservative young man turn out? You can't only use bad acts by individuals to indict an entire demographic when it's a demographic you already dislike.
I want to make clear: if you enjoy Lynyrd Skynyrd's music, there's nothing wrong with continuing to enjoy it, and I'm not taking part in any shaming of people who do enjoy it, buy it, or buy tickets to see them in concert. But I personally prefer Neil Young.
@DavidNe14460831
@NikkiFried
The punishment is being behind bars. We’re not talking about access to tennis, skiing, or video games, we’re talking about basic needs.
LGBT people are subjected to a standard by much of society wherein any bad act by an LGBT person is grounds for stripping rights from all LGBT people, and any person claiming to no longer identify with the community means the community is "illegitimate."
@MarlaMHughes
@jessicashortall
If he said something sexually explicit, the people complaining about it need to specify that and offer evidence. Otherwise, this just looks like a homophobic hammer in search of a nail.
The Confederacy winning is a "favorite" in the sense that it allows people like me to shine a window into just how evil the Confederacy was and how unrealistic it is to think the South would've voluntarily abolished slavery at any point during or shortly after the 1860s.
@CharmedMagnolia
Do you think the thing lawyers warn about of “don’t ask gotcha questions you don’t know the answer to” applies? I’ve had people ask gotcha questions about what reparations Union vets and Holocaust survivors got not realizing both groups received compensation that ex slaves didn’t
@charliekirk11
What happened to the mantra of “life’s not fair, suck it up, and work harder” that conservatives use in almost every case involving accusations of unfair disadvantages? Seems like they only care about level playing fields when trans athletes are involved.
@PolicyJosh
@jtfdenver
@jackcurran49
You have to stand while it's recited unless your parent gives explicit permission to the school for you to opt out. If you want a kid who's already left-wing to end up with 0 respect for free speech by the time they hit college, stick them in a Florida public school.
