@profmusgrave I've gotten rejected from schools I felt I was qualified for, and I'm not dismissing how upsetting that is. But this kid could have easily gotten rejected for, say, a legacy student or a student whose dad gave the school two million, and the aunt/uncle doesn't care about that.

@Anketimsi @TrueSlazac You can’t make assumptions about people based on their ethnicity or screen immigrants based on political views. You have to establish very strong legal safeguards for LGBT rights and respond homophobic immigrants the same way you do homophobic native born whites.

My take on homelessness that's likely to anger the right the most: unless a homeless person with a mental illness is clearly posing a danger to someone, they shouldn't be forcibly removed from the streets or institutionalized. Also, most homeless people are not "lazy."

@poorlyreasoned Polls have repeatedly shown ~70-75% of cons/Republicans think you should be prosecuted if you burn a U.S. flag you own. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poll where 1/3rd or more of cons/Republicans were tolerant on this issue.

@LauraRbnsn Also not sure what the problem with these numbers is. Many young women already have kids, many who don’t have them want them, and a chunk of young women are choosing not to have them. That’s what free choice looks like.

@LloydElwell @MorningConsult @JoshKraushaar The top 2 Republicans are the 2 most liberal Republicans governors in the nation, and of the other 3 in the top 5, 2 are significantly less conservative than the party nationwide. Only Justice is a hardcore social conservative.

I want to make clear: if you enjoy Lynyrd Skynyrd's music, there's nothing wrong with continuing to enjoy it, and I'm not taking part in any shaming of people who do enjoy it, buy it, or buy tickets to see them in concert. But I personally prefer Neil Young.

LGBT people are subjected to a standard by much of society wherein any bad act by an LGBT person is grounds for stripping rights from all LGBT people, and any person claiming to no longer identify with the community means the community is "illegitimate."

The Confederacy winning is a "favorite" in the sense that it allows people like me to shine a window into just how evil the Confederacy was and how unrealistic it is to think the South would've voluntarily abolished slavery at any point during or shortly after the 1860s.

If you want a kid who's already left-wing to end up with 0 respect for free speech by the time they hit college, stick them in a Florida public school.
