Calling on my Pākeha countrymen and women to speak up and stand up for te reo.
It's so much better when we do this together. Kia kaha te reo Māori. 🫶

Do we have to say "the South Auckland family" would we say "the East Auckland family" or would we say the family, who lives in West Harbour?
Serious question.
My Koro died yesterday. His name was Tāmaki ironic because I'm stuck in Tāmaki while he goes home to Maniapoto to lay with his twin Mōkau. Ahakoa te mamae I believe in strict lockdowns. Mō tātou ❤
The lovely man that just took my blood at LAB Test is exhausted. He said he earns $22.80 an hour and it hasn't changed for the last five years. These are our critical workers Team 5.5 million. We can do better.
Following the Chch earthquake Tonga raised
"a massive T$833,867 (NZ$705,000) for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Fund." Stuff 2010
Something for us to remember.
It's the first time
@dbseymour
has declined a
@TheHui
interview. It was to be on vaccination equity.
So
@dbseymour
I'll ask again. Haere mai, come on our show and have a good robust discussion.
Police are investigating the home invasion of Hana Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, meanwhile some people on here question whether she's telling the truth. Can you not just for a moment put your politics to the side and condemn the violent threat aimed at a young woman?
Kia ora
@schofe
who are your sources because Auckland is very busy, cafes are full, streets are congested, people are out running. You don't need to be outraged on our behalf. Aro atu ki tō whenua.
Youth crime has decreased by 60% in 10 yrs. Young people are generally doing well. A small number of them are committing crimes in groups many known to OT. 90% of kids in OT has a learning disability. Inflation affects the poorest families. Join the dots.
As an indigenous female broadcaster, there a certain things you don't get away with in Aotearoa. You have to be cool, calm and collected. All the things my tuakana
@Indiratweets

NZ we're in that uncomfortable stage when you feel vulnerable because others are raising points that might have truth. Stay in the conversation, listen and try not to attack. Let's learn something about racism.
Kua hinga te totara, a Chief has fallen and its being felt across the motu and across Te Moananui ā Kiwa.
Fa'nānā Efeso, thank you for your service, Chief.
Kia au te moe.
Whakaaronui ki tō whānau
Hearing some loud Pākehā voices elevating themselves onto platforms to protest learning our combined history and I feel nothing for them or about them.
We are moving from Niutīrenitanga to Aotearoatanga, he tauira mo te ao. ❤️🖤🤍
Pushing compulsory Māori in schools shows Labour is deeply committed to social engineering. Too many children leave school without having acquired basic literacy skills. The idea that we would force kids who already struggle to learn another language seems like a cruel joke.
This man was taken from his family as a child and put in a borstal, he is alive to tell his story and it is horrific. We should long and hard about incarcerating children again in Aotearoa.
A bit of talk about bikes. Thanks to a safe bike track, my 11 year old bikes to school now, his brother will join him in a few years. It will save us 7,200km a year dropping them. Less emissions, less congestion and healthy kids makes a lot of sense.
As a journo I have always felt safe at protests, most understand we have a job to do but the "Freedom and Choice" protests feel different. "Fuck the Media" is the new catch phrase. It's dangerous. Kia kaha te hunga pāpaho.
I know at least 10 Māori journalists who would provide balance and perspective to the current "health inequities" story. The problem is that there is an inequity of platforms for Māori, so you aren't hearing them.
Okay my idea for young adults/youth vaccinations. On the 3rd Saturday of December plan mass concerts across the country, give it a name, bring in the best artists, make alcohol and food avail and tell anyone between 18 and 35 they only need a vaxx cert to enter.
Sounds f#$king ridiculous but resisted tāmoko for years in case I worked in MSM. Have decolonised some more and now I'm wearing my moko on the outside.

The irony of the news platform that once apologised to Māori and then runs polls on a co-governance referendum knowing Māori represent just 16% of the population, you know exactly what you are doing.
Native Americans were given the actual vaccines to administer to people. They bought ultra cold fridges, threw out the protocols, vaxxed frontline/health/teachers first. Native nurses drove vaccines to whānau. They are 70% fully vaxxed vs US 59%.
Listening to Tāmaki College student who works from 6pm to 3am and then goes to school should make us all ashamed. This is what poverty looks like.

I don't get why NZers returning home are so pissed they're being asked to contribute. We are all contributing and our children will be paying for years to come.
It's like a koha at the marae - everyone gives a little at the gate and we all get fed.
About 800 people live in Kaiaua which is 10mins from Mangatangi. My Uncle said the village was vaccinated 2 weeks ago by a mobile Vax clinic. Whānau are committed to getting tested today at the marae.
Okay here I go.
@RicardoSimich
I'm 46 yrs old, a married mama of 4 children, 24 yrs as a journo. But this week you defined me as someone else’s ex-partner. I am not property I am not defined by a relationship that ended a decade ago. My mum is super pissed at you.
You need to keep your ears tuned for people who flip the script on racism. For example in health, keeping the status quo where certain ethnic groups die 7 years earlier, is actually institutional racism.
There should be a Leaders Debate though a Māori lens because the inequity for Māori/PI is so different to a mainstream lens. We certainly wouldn't be talking about buying 1st homes at 24.
People hiding behind fake profiles saying horrible things about people not behind fake profiles are just boring. You are the guys who did dumb shit at school, never owned up and we all missed lunch. No one likes you.
Hat tip to Mayor Cadogan, being a great example for Aotearoa New Zealand.
Clutha mayor Cadogan tells Stop Co Governance Tour leader to 'get out of town'
Thinking of all the descendants of Parihaka today. This day in 1881,1600 Colonial Soldiers invaded their peaceful village committing atrocities on women and children and arresting their men. E kore e warewaretia.
Damn it, if only we had dealt to racism, housing crisis, inequity and inequality before this pandemic, we might not be seeing Māori vax rates trailing the average by >20% ❤🤍🖤
Using Rātana, one of the earliest co-governance/Māori arrangements (1934) to protest "co-governance" is bonkers. TW Rātana favoured Labour because it consulted Māori before writing policy, the earliest form of the idea of co-governance one would think.
I moved to AK 12 years ago as a solo mum, was impossible applying for rentals with my name. An amazing work colleague offered to be my referee, had a house within days. I'm lucky. Ngaa mihi
@JohnJCampbell
😇
Iwi are impressive, some are already placing kaumatua into bubbles and thermal testing at current tangi. When I'm old I want to be cared for like this 🧡
Tammy who broke the AK border describes herself as "a white lady in a mint chrysler"
@nzpolice
pick her up please - it's 11 weeks in lockdown I'm not even joking anymore.
On the eve of Te Wiki o te reo Māori can we please not give the platforms to te reo haters. It's only one week they have the other 51 to talk kaka.
#Kaka
as in not the bird.
Struggling to find the right word to describe this move its not amazing, incredible, brave or courageous its simply tika and pono. Its the right thing to do e mihi ana ki a kooutou

Tamaki's bikes mates held up an intersection I pulled up to today and my daughter says "what is that gang?" Me "Destiny Church". Her "what a cheek calling yourselves Iwi Tapu."
Can't fool our kura kids.
I asked a supermarket worker who was restocking shelves how she was and she started crying. I couldn't even hug her. Finally she told me she is tired and worried.

Did not realize National's Bootcamp programme would use laws to separate children from their families. This is a very important point that
@rebeccawright
raises, and there should be evidence provided. We are in the middle of the State Abuse Royal Inquiry.
My girl turned 18 today. She says "Yes, I can finally go the the clubs". I remind her about Easter Sunday. She's like "Whaaat!!!!" Happy Easter home girl.
Here I am feeling boohoo about lock down and my son says " I love lock down it means we can all be a family together". I'm pulling my head in as we speak.
You really should lay your challenges down on the marae
@FranOSullivan
then you allow a fair response to your points below. But instead you've used your privileged platform
@nzherald
the one that often talks about being more diverse 💤
Feels like all my mates have or have had the Rona. I looked at WHO and only 26% of New Zealanders have contracted Covid since Feb 2020. That means 73% haven't.
