Early on, Sporcle is your best friend. Learn those US presidents, those elements, those UK prime ministers, the capitals of the world. Learn them so well you can do it in order. You’ll forget some after a while but always easier to learn again next time (teaching 101).

Towards the tail end, try learning not just the person but the place of birth, the year of birth. I was watching Eggheads years back and Kevin Ashman just recited the years of birth of three composers. Makes you realise it’s possible. And it is possible (Borodin, Gluck, Stokes).

Remember building knowledge is a process. You can’t remember all the capitals without knowing all the countries well. You can’t recall elements to an atomic number without knowing the elements first. Start learning these early, it’ll become second nature.

Common feedback on Twitter is my inability to remain still on Jeopardy. The simple reason is I am so up to my eyeballs in caffeine if you cut me I would have bleeded coffee. I am better on buzzer if about to die from a caffeine OD (University Challenge exhibit A).

People digging at the Van Gogh souppers: cast your mind back to 1914 when Mary Richardson took a cleaver to the Rokeby Venus campaigning for votes for women. The famous suffragettes were quite posh and well off too. Over a century on, very much on the right side of history.
