It's actually crazy how sincerely good the working class is that just making guillotine jokes about the capitalists still makes most people uncomfortable, but capitalists make life-and-death decisions about the working class every day (to our demise) and think nothing of it.
Getting penalized $2000 at work for being honest and calling sick because I'm covid positive. I'm a fucking nurse. Please, someone tell me why there is an incentive to lie and come in sick?
This Tiktok is from Montreal.
This is why we have no sympathy for landlords. They brag about how much they profit from rent without lifting a finger. They promote this parasitic lifestyle, encouraging others to take advantage of poor people too.
I'm doing a month-long night contract that comes with a $2000 bonus. If you're absent for any reason, for example being on strike just 1h of your workday, or getting covid, you don't get the bonus, even if you just spent a whole month doing only night shifts.
They were already going to take it away because I had shifts scheduled on strike days, but through extraordinary measures I managed to find a way around this, and I was set to receive my $2000 as promised. Now I have covid, and if a 39.0 fever wasn't punishment enough... 😭
You can thank the Qc govt for this shitty contract that encourages you to lie, self-medicate, and come in to work sick w covid to nurse little sick babies. Fantastic system we have guys. 👌
@CNBC
Whaaaaat the fuck? If you can't figure out how to take a vacation on $400,000 a year, you're comically bad with money.
They keep releasing these idiotic articles like they're begging to get guillotined.
Hate how capitalism makes your whole life feel like a competition.
Jobs are a competition. Housing is a competition. Hobbies are a competition. Everything's a goddamn competition.
I'm actually a very competitive person, but there are things that should never be competitions.
Apparently, our government weed store SQDC is coming out with a weed-infused sauce brune for poutine, and honestly, I really love that. Québec really committed to the bit.
Like, yesss please never change this part of yourself, Québec.
Sometimes I watch CBC's The National from the night before at breakfast.
I had to turn off last night's episode at 16 minutes in, because ALL IN THE SAME EPISODE, they had the following segments:
Apparently, our government weed store SQDC is coming out with a weed-infused sauce brune for poutine, and honestly, I really love that. Québec really committed to the bit.
Like, yesss please never change this part of yourself, Québec.
There were probably more horrors in that episode, but I could not make it past minute 16. We need to fire every fucking neoliberal propagandist at the CBC. They are wayyyy too excited to egg on a new Cold War.
How do they think it makes people feel when there's a housing crisis going on, quality of life is dropping, burnout is rising, & they're here platforming whiny bitches complaining about not visiting their vacation homes, + lovingly talking about American billionaires/politicians?

Honestly too eager to forgive. The crowd was shouting to the police officers to join our side, to choose to be better. The crowd was so ready to forgive, and this kind of trickery from the police. Just disgusting.
On night shift again, repping the union today! If you don't want to see Québec nurses on strike soon, now is probably a good time to call your provincial MP and tell them that the govt should agree to our union demands. We're asking for embarrassingly little as it is.
Shit Montreal landlords say in private fb groups: a landlord asks for advice on how to raise rent between tenants without renovating.
The advice? Leave the place empty for a year to be able to skip the "lowest rent paid in last year" section of the lease & more! 🙃

They pedestrianized the commercial street in my neighbourhood in Montréal and I see more elderly people + people on wheelchairs than usual, I guess because they have a calm, safe, and wide area to walk or roll on. Also more children on the street, I guess due to the new safety.
In my neighbourhood, Verdun (in Montréal), kind-of-affordable apartments for rent have line-ups like this now.
I lived this myself a few years ago, and it's fucking hell. But nooooo, there's no housing crisis, nothing to worry about here! 🙃🙃🙃
MONTREAL TENANTS! Do LEASE TRANSFERS to KEEP RENTS LOW! It's what landlords fear most, because it works!
Btw, regarding that comment near the end, ur LL can't just refuse a transfer outright, they need serious documented reasons.

Why I'll be voting Communist tomorrow:
A) I think
@compartycanada
are doing some good outreach + education, & I want to encourage them.
B) We could get a couple articles out saying "a surprising amount of people voted Communist" & that's how you shift the Overton window left.
How does one deal with the anger that there are some people at office jobs wasting their days pretending to work because they have no actual work to do, meanwhile I'm at the hospital running around wishing there were three of me?
The NDP has urged PM Trudeau to create a funding plan that could keep Greyhound’s remaining routes operating
Without action from the gov, rural Canadians will be increasingly cut off from jobs, health care and education, worsening the growing divide in rural and northern Canada
Aside from the fact that most of this stuff is not even news, much less worthy of being broadcast on the national flagship news show, there's only so much class antagonism towards working people I can handle at once.
Did u know landlords who don't even live in Montréal can vote in our elections?
This landlord (who u might recognize from his pic as someone who admins popular MTL TENANT HOUSING ADVICE GROUPS 😭) thinks if a landlord owns 75 units in Mtl, they should get 75 votes.
1. A segment about Canadian-USA border restrictions that tried to get us to feel bad for a woman who COULDN'T "VISIT HER VACATION HOME IN FLORIDA".
2. A segment that blamed Canada's inability to produce vaccines on China! (Also repeatedly showed Chinese military parade shots??)
I don't have numbers to back this up, but I'm guessing that paying the current salary of every oil & gas worker for the rest of their lives- without asking them to work at all- would still be cheaper than dealing w/the effects of climate change if we let them continue working.
Stuff like this sucks, because ppl should indeed be protesting this bullshit curfew, but not cause of "freedom for the young", but because it's a really dumb & inefficient measure compared to a short but rly strict lockdown, which they'd never do because it would hurt capitalism.
Here we can see in a Mtl fb landlords group, landlords giving each other advice about illegally repossessing apartments under false pretenses, faking major renovations to evict tenants, etc. Oh, and joking about how hard it will be for their evicted tenant to find a new home.
A little case study about how landlords organize. Thread.
Last year, many boroughs in Montréal tried (some succeeded) passing a bylaw banning mergers and subdivisions of units, in response to the housing crisis. This bylaw was supposed to protect tenants from being renovicted...
I've lived in rented apartments my entire life, & honestly was just fine doing it. Never felt that it was any less "my home" because I didn't own the property. Something changed in the last few years. It feels like a repossession/renoviction notice is always a looming threat now.
3. A segment about space travel and some actor with the warmly delivered line "and billionaire Elon Musk was there to welcome him back to earth."
4. A preview of a segment where the news anchor gushingly interviews Hillary Clinton on a political thriller novel!
So, with Montréal becoming too expensive for artists and other culture-creating people to live in, what city do you think will take over as Canada's official "cool/chill" city?
Or do you think there is still hope for Montréal? Or do you disagree about Montréal ever being cool? 😂
If I could immediately + realistically change 1 thing abt Montreal, it would be to bring back actual walk-in clinics that u don't need to make an online appointment for.
How is it possible that the only place in this city where u can get same-day walk-in care is emergency depts?

What the fuck is this? This whole thing is insane. She is coerced into sex with a man she clearly finds sexually repulsive to get a green card? How is this not rape? Americans are fucked. Abusing ppl from other countries for entertainment. Wow.
Wow, shocking that if you give private businesses a loophole to avoid building social housing, they will not build social housing. Who could have predicted this??
I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH. DO NOT USE YOUR REAL NAME TO COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR LANDLORD ON PUBLIC FACEBOOK GROUPS.
Here are some screenshots from a private landlord group, and some screenshots from a conversation I had with the admin of the tenant group in question.
I fucking hate the curfew. Walking is one of my only coping mechanisms, and I often have too much work during the day to go out then.
After 8pm is when I would wind down to try to lower my anxiety before sleep. Now I work all day with no walk as a reward at the end.
This man has been a bane to my neighbourhood since I've lived here. He's a proud gentrifier, and his business model is to evict residents under confusing pretexts, making them feel like they have to leave. Now his actions have led to the suicide of one my neighbours.
I showed this to my parents (v conservative, hate China because it's communist) and they agreed that China is doing a better job than Canada, and Canada should take example from them on how to handle the pandemic.
Can't argue with giving people food to stay safe and healthy.
Obviously, I can't be sure what variant of Covid-19 I have, but I would not describe fever, throat pain, chest pain/pressure, muscle pain, generalized weakness, nasal/sinus congestion, headache, loss of appetite, and hot flashes as "mild".
Everyone please legitimately send your best vibes. I'm doing my first attempt at the government French exam at the Office québécois de la langue française. I feel like I'm going up against the final boss of the Nursing in Québec video game.
Holy damn, this is absolutely fascinating. Mao speaks simply & straight to the fucking point. He literally starts by explaining what to do w/ capitalists & landlords after the revolution, & ends w/ people who make mistakes. Short, but packed with goodness!
Okay, I'm going to start complaining a bit about dating here.
First complaint! Why is everyone on dating apps obsessed with travelling? Everyone is looking for a "travel partner". How do you all have this much money and time???
@birgitomo
I never understood this management technique. What's the point of administration jobs if not to solve scheduling issues? Nurses are not schedulers. That's not their job. No nurse should be calling for replacements, it's just not their job.
Been putting effort into looking cute lately, because I'm recently single and trying to put out vibes to other cuties.
I've spent the last couple years makeup-less in pajamas, scrubs, or athleisure, so it feels good.
(Can I tweet abt myself sometimes, and not just landlords? 😅)
I remember just a few years ago, people were laughing at photos of Soviet social housing, like the kind my family lived in in Poland, and now in Canada, these kinds of apartments would be out of reach for most working families here.
But oh no, the buildings look boring. 🙄
The metro benefits you in many ways even if you don't use it.
Ex. Hospitals stay open 24/7 because many workers are able to use the metro's late/early trips to get to/from work.
We need to look at the STM not as a for-profit company but as a public service, like roads/hospitals.
Is a loved one in the hospital? Here are some things that you can bring them that they will actually use, based on my experience working bedside.
1. Pillows
There are never enough pillows and hospital pillows are plastic and lumpy.
How is this acceptable?
CORPIQ is the largest landlord association in Québec by the way.
Apparently if you're rich, you can exercise your influence in as many cities as you can afford land in.
In case you were wondering, the metro conductor does do a countdown over the speakerphone, and all the metro passengers cheer and wish each other Happy New Year. 🥰🚇🐇
I was feeling kind of down, but a landlord posting about his fears due to the Montreal Tenants' Day protest I was at yesterday is making me feel better. ☺️
If you're looking for an apt in Mtl & ur social media has anything a landlord might see as a "red flag" (ex. leftist content or pro-tenant advocacy), don't use ur legal name online, because all the landlords (in the groups I monitor) creep social media before choosing a renter.
Just a couple examples floating around of what's going on in Montréal.
The housing crisis is getting so bad, landlords are receiving hundreds of answers to their apartment ads, so they raise the proposed rents by hundreds of dollars at a time to thin the crowd of applicants.
The reason this is happening is because it would be considered political suicide to do anything to decrease people's home values.
But why is it acceptable to enrich homeowners by hundreds of thousands of dollars while raising rents on the rest of us? I'm fucking tired.
Nothing annoys me more than when articles say that average rent in Mtl is $900, but don't bother mentioning the average for a new lease, which is defs way more.
Doing this paints a false picture of affordability & denies the realities of ppl who are currently looking for housing.
Trudeau did blackface (multiple times), Lib Premier of Nova Scotia Iain Rankin was charged for drunk driving TWICE, but doing something that hurts no one, yeah, that's what gets you dropped.
Sexist pieces of shit.
Sex workers are apparently to be kept out of public life forever.
Made this a while ago, just looked at it again, and maybe it's cute enough to post. 🥺
💢My neighbourhood, Verdun, is for the working class!
Gentrifiers, keep out!💢
@CharlotteERosen
That's horrifying. Literally nothing more chilling to me than human medical experimentation. They did a bunch of medical experiments on Native children in Canadian residential schools (last one closed in 1996!!). People don't know about that one either.
Today, many of the hospital employees were on strike and ooooffffff was it ever a hard day.
We, the nurses, were in full support, as our co-workers will support us when we strike on Wed/Thurs. The doctors also echoed their support every chance they got. We all deserve better.
Tiktok keeps showing me videos covering the Toronto mayoral election, and Chloe Brown is killing it so hard on absolutely every topic, wish we had someone to vote for in Montréal who was this cool.
I am so shook, I may never date again. Apparently, nothing means anything anymore because I just went on a date with this man, and he ended up being a SELF-DESCRIBED PRO-CAPITALIST CONSERVATIVE. 😭😭😭
My cousin in Poland bought a house & my grandpa thought it was too small, so my dad told him, "it's ok, he can sell it & get a diffrnt one in a few yrs" & my grandpa got so mad, said "it's a house, u buy it to live in! U can't just change it like a pair of gloves every few yrs!!"
Btw, not a single patient complaint. Every single one of my patients' families voiced support for the employees striking. People understand, and they're on our side.

I will take it, thank you very much. 🥰🥰🥰
Almost all my Nursing classmates that I've asked plan to move out of Québec for higher pay. You know how expensive it is for the province to be training all these nurses, just to then drive them away with low salaries? Make it make sense.
“The starting annual full-time salary for nursing in Quebec is still the lowest in the country by nearly $20,000 per year.”

Opinion: This isn't how to solve Quebec's nursing shortage | Montreal Gazette
Gross af to mention immigrants like they're the problem.
Also, I caaaaan't with this "starter home" shit.
1. What you call a "starter home" most of us would love to even aspire to.
2. This kind of "trading up" attitude to housing is exactly why it's treated like a commodity.
Justin Trudeau earlier today (April 20,2022) blames immigration for Canada's housing bubble. Suggests millennials rent to own or find a small condo near transit as a starter home.
I'm seeing more posts in landlord groups regarding issues where tenants who are moving out can't leave bcs they can't find a place to move to.
The landlords blame tenants entirely for the situation, saying tenants don't respect contracts, willfully ignorant to the crisis.
I don't understand why Montreal hasn't completely banned plex conversions into single-family homes yet. I see landlords talking abt doing them all the time, & it makes me go insane.
Mtl's working class plexes will soon just be gutted facades for mansions for the wealthy.
If you're a little bored and want to do some good for the world, make a fb account specifically to comment "wow, too expensive, you're robbing people" on overpriced apartment ads. It warns newcomers to the city about overpaying, and it really does bother the landlords. 😌
Everyone please legitimately send your best vibes. I'm doing my first attempt at the government French exam at the Office québécois de la langue française. I feel like I'm going up against the final boss of the Nursing in Québec video game.
Nothing like leaving the ICU at midnight (that has many empty beds because of the nurse shortage) to go straight into a packed metro full of the maskless Saturday night party crowd.
I'm not even judging, I don't even know if I care anymore. It just kinda gave me whiplash.
Just saw a landlord suggest to purposely destroy a tenant's credit score (like actually contact Transunion/Equifax) over 1 month unpaid rent.
You absolute piece of shit, you just made sure she will never again find a place to live.
How could u be so vindictive towards poor ppl?
@RosieBarton
Can't believe your scolding tone when you could have made your own coffee, but still went to a coffee shop. As someone very informed about this virus, there's no excuse for you to still be going out!
I will be voting no! 🚫
Québec politicians gave themselves a 30% raise, but for us nurses, 17.4% over 5 years is supposed to be enough? Québec police voted no to 21%, and Québec nurses are supposed to vote yes on 17.4%??? I think not!!!
