for 1 year. After 100 rejections, 6 full requests & some personalized feedback I’ve decided to set it aside to focus on my current WIP. I’ll circle back to revise when I can take a fresh look after a break.
I'm so excited to be in this agent's maybe pile. I was hesitant to query because their emphasis is on uplifting diverse authors but I would love to work with them. Fingers crossed it turns into a request!

It finally happened. After 80+ queries I finally sent one addressed with the wrong agent name on the letter. 🤦🏻♀️ The name was right on the email! Guess it happens to everyone once.

Still feeling the adrenaline high from the full request I got yesterday from an agent I was sure would pass. It’s only my 2nd full request at 6 months & 6 queries. I needed that confidence boost!

Does anyone else add an agent with a quick turnaround to a query batch just to get an instant gratification response or it that just me?

will take place all day, any time zone July 3rd!
rules will be listed below and at the 🔗 we have on our page! please also be aware of the new hashtags we’ll be using to provide more clarity!
Now I really want to form a party of kooky writer friends to join me on a quest for publication!! 😍 Do I need to find an enchanted fountain pen to activate this or what?
I cannot stress how important it is to have a group of fellow writers (the kookier the better) to support you through your writing journey, give you feedback, and just generally make you feel like all the hard work matters. You know who you are... 💖

Very few Americans learn a second language or travel outside the country so they really have no idea how different the rest of the world is.

May is graduation month. I have a son graduating from high school, a daughter from college, and I’m getting my master’s in library science. 👨🏻🎓⚓️👩🏻🎓💻👩🏻🎓📚
Tried making my first mood board. How’d I do?

@LousyLibrarian
Me, a high school librarian: Psst, that chair over there is better for napping. Also, you don’t have to sleep with your laptop on your face. It looks uncomfortable.

If it's a main character, give them their own distinct habit like tapping on something, chewing their cuticles, or twirling a strand of hair.
Writers, show off the moodboard for your work, followed by a playlist that matches the vibes!

I’m about 80 queries in & there’s a point where the rejections didn’t hurt bc they’re standard. It’s like, got that one out of the way. One step closer to finding the one who will say yes. But if you get a full or partial it gives you a big boost!

front going on 3 weeks now. But I got an email saying it’s time to design the cover of my nonfiction book so that cheered me up. At least until agents get back from vacation & the rejections roll in! 😅

Wrote the first 500 words of my next project. I'm still outlining and thinking it through, but it's nice to have some words on paper.

On a road trip for family vacation. Quickest way to summon full requests by being away from a computer? We’ll see if it works.

One of the things agents like about QM is that it makes it more difficult to get angry rants from a pass. The downside is it is also harder to send a polite “I appreciate your feedback. Thanks for your consideration.”
@KailenRenae
Yes. I had a really great personalized rejection from a full but otherwise it’s only been query passes recently. It’s hard to stay positive all the time.
There’s been a whole lot of nothing happening on my querying the past two weeks but I can pull up my QuestPit post and read all the nice comments my writing friends left to get a boost. 🥰
@NicoleAisling
I try to ask what level of feedback they want. I don’t want to overwhelm them if they’d rather be given a little bit of focused feedback.
I read a couple books in verse this week that I ordered for our library (we’re up to 5 now) but I still can’t really get into them. Except for Long Way Down which is a masterpiece I will never tire of rereading. 😍
@APoetForThePyre
If you read widely in the genre you will learn what’s common. I haven’t found much that’s off limits but keeping it non graphic with moderate amounts of profanity will keep the audience wide.

Also, if you find an agent that’s a good fit, there’s an option under reports to see agents with similar taste (if you’re a premium member). I’ve found that super helpful to find the best fit agents.

That essay was one of the best pieces of writing I ever read. I think of it, and the victims you wrote about, every September 11th.
@wendyparciak
It really seems that way if you look at all the opportunities to pitch agents at conferences or pay for agent feedback on first pages and queries. Even paying for a book coach or professional editing.
I had post-it notes on my Black history month window with facts like “95% of books published between 1950-2018 were written by white authors.” They seem to have disappeared over the weekend. 😒
How have I lived this long without knowing Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy existed?? I didn’t want it to end & I can’t wait to read Puddin’ next.

Great question! Is it something I can see is accurate? Is it something I’m willing to change? Is it in line with other feedback I’ve gotten? That’s kind of my checklist.
Today my son is shipping out for Navy basic training and Wed is my birthday. If any agent would like to make an offer of rep, or even a full request, to make this week a little extra, my inbox is open! 👀
@Dacgno
It’s so discouraging to get that kind of feedback when you’ve been feeling positive about what you wrote. I’ve had those days! I find it’s best to set it aside, take a break, and return when you’re ready to dig in again.
@vivianavasiu92
I think Thrillers often follow the cinematic style of starting with an action prologue and then starting back in time to build up to the prologue moment.

Yeah, my husband’s last name is German and frequently mispronounced. But people don’t feel the need to comment on it because German names are “normal” difficult not “foreign” difficult. Different issue.
