Remembering Murray, Ayrton and Roland on a weekend when Murray was a rock for BBC F1 coverage as he handled the extremely difficult job of speaking live to camera with huge dignity and clarity.
Just had a a very kind call from Murray Walker to chat about
#NikiLauda
book. He may be 96, but delighted to report he sounded as chipper and switched on as ever - and keeping himself safe.

Coming up for air after meeting today's deadline 70,000 words for 'Murray Walker: Incredible!' to be published 11 November. Contributions from 40+ drivers, associates, friends and fans - all sharing the love. Such a pleasure. Off to pub tonight + raise a glass to

What would
#MurrayWalker
have made of that first half-lap? ! Much missed this weekend - but not forgotten 'Murray Walker : Incredible!' - due to be published 11 November
The last time
#F1
championship contenders went into the final round equal on points was 1974 US GP at Watkins Glen. Clay Regazzoni put Emerson Fittipaldi on the grass at 170 mph on the back straight on the first lap. Emmo didn't lift off + won his second title. Just sayin'..
Such a shame for
@AlphaTauriF1
there's no mad Italian crowd to greet this home win. They would have gone mental in the absence of anything close to decent by

Impressive support on line for
@tedkravitz
, no longer with
@SkySportsF1
. Had his quirks (!) but boundless enthusiasm, got the job done, told me all I needed to know.
'Legend' is often over-used: in the case of Sir Stirling Moss, it hardly makes a start. Hero to many; the epitome of a brilliant driver with the purest of sporting ethics. Deepest sympathies to Lady Moss, who adored him - along with most of the nation. RIP.
The term ‘Hero’ is much abused but, for me, Niki Lauda was a true hero, not just because of what he did in a racing car before and after the accident in 1976, but the way he took on Boeing after the LaudaAir crash. His searing honesty and humour made him a delight to know. RIP
Slipped under social radar in last 6 months due to this. Invaluable support from Lukas Lauda Toto Wolff Max Mosley Gerhard Berger + 29 others. Turned out to be a really rewarding project covering a great period in tribute to a truly remarkable man.
Absolutely unbelievable video: Alain de Cadenet delivers a brilliant piece to camera.... and then Ray Hanna flies the lowest of low passes in MH434. Gets quite a reaction 🤣. An oldie, but if this doesn’t cheer you up on lockdown, nothing will 👍
Join the entire motor sport world in mourning the passing of an absolute legend. The voice of

for so many. And such a 100% genuine enthusiast. RIP Murray.
It’s with great sadness we share the news of the passing of BRDC Associate Member Murray Walker OBE.
A friend, a true motorsport legend, the nations favourite commentator and a contagious smile.
We thank Murray for all he has done for our community.
RIP our friend.
Respect to all in
#F1
- management, drivers, team personnel (and their long-suffering partners at home) - for pulling off a superb 17-race season in such difficult circumstances. Looked impossible 9 month ago. Chapeau.

20 years ago, this towering
#F1
figure succumbed to cancer. The iconic 'Shed' in which the championship-winning Tyrrells were built is still in the former woodyard in Surrey, but under threat. Lord March is reported to be trying to save it for Goodwood🙏
Great picture. He's probably got a suit scrunched up in that rucksack! That's the way he appeared and got dressed outside the church for Denny Hulme's memorial service in Chelsea...
#OnThisDay
in '93 Alain Prost won the
#CanadianGP
. It was the last GP on which James Hunt would commentate. After the race he biked from the BBC studio in Shepherds Bush to his home in Wimbledon. 2 days later he had a fatal heart attack. He was 45. Truly, we'd lost a legend.

Going through my files, came across this poignant moment when Niki and Arturo Merzario, the man who helped pull him from the flames, met in the Mercedes motorhome at Monza a couple of years ago...
Golden memories flooding in, including this one from February 1985. Pre-season press lunch with Frank; always fun and revealing - most of which was off the record! To my left: Jenks, Eoin Young and Alan Henry - all also sadly departed. RIP Sir Frank. An absolute
#F1
giant.
@MsportXtra
It’s fair to say that the last five years have underlined how fortunate we were to have benefitted from Charlie’s guiding hand. Sadly missed both personally and professionally.
Remembering this wonderful character (as if he could be forgotten!). Passed away three years ago today. As
@MBrundleF1
said in his eloquent Foreword: 'A life well lived and well loved, and a career which will be celebrated for a very long time - unless I'm very much mistaken.'
Picture I took of Niki at his first F2 race; Mallory Park, March 1971. He was intrigued by this - 'I look like a little boy!' - and it formed the start of another wonderfully direct conversation - this time at the Nurburgring in July 2011.
#DankeNiki
Loads of 'Muzza' memories flooding in - but this one stands out. Murray was persuaded by BBC 5 Live's
@jasonswales
to make a comeback in Germany in 2007. To borrow his narrative, it was 'INCREDIBLE!'; an wonderful experience and privilege I'll never forget.
If Red Bull count the overlap with the end of 2022 to give 12 consecutive wins 👏 and beat McLaren's record (set in a single season - 1988), what about Ferrari's run of 14 wins across 1952 - 53? Asking for a friend...
Silverstone is to rename the Pit Straight on the International Circuit as 'Hamilton Straight' (er, no, not after me!). In tribute to Lewis Hamilton's recored-breaking achievements, this is the first time part of Silverstone has been named in honour of a driver.
#F1
Lovely to read so many memories of Jim Clark. This is one of my favourites. We were there, wide-eyed at exit of Old Hall, Oulton Park, 1966. He was doing this every lap, inch-perfect, outrageously sideways coming, chasing the Galaxies and Mustangs. Having fun. Oh, and he won...
"And now, excuse me while I interrupt myself to tell you that this ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC book is out in paperback today!" - as
#MurrayWalker
might have said.

Conclusion 16 in decision to reject the Andretti application to join

While the Andretti name carries some recognition for F1 fans, our research indicates that F1 would bring value to the Andretti brand rather than the other way around.
Tells you a lot...
There was a time when a new

track had to stage a major race beforehand to prove it was up to hosting a round of a FIA World Championship. Ironically, Las Vegas 1981 (along with Montreal in 1978) was the first to buck that trend.

HAM and BOT puzzled during press conference over need to change F1 logo. BOTT: 'I liked the old one'. HAM: 'You wouldn't see Mercedes or Ferrari changing theirs.' Probably not what Liberty wants to hear...

Can't believe this was 10 years ago. Thing I'll never forget - apart from the wonderful chat - was the way John Surtees hustled his BMW through the Kent lanes, left-foot braking, sooo smooth and quick. He was 82.
Gordon Murray investing £50m in new HQ at Dunsfold (made famous by Top Gear) to build T.50 Supercar. 'More than 90% of content of T.50 comes from British suppliers, something we worked heaven and earth to achieve.'

Three days recording audiobook of ‘Murray Walker: Incredible!’ Hard work - but great fun doing tasty extracts from Muzza commentary. Published 11 November. Incredible! Big 🙏 to

Extremely sad to hear of Max Mosley's death, aged 81. 'Mosley', a docu-film due for release in July, will tell the story of a remarkable and sometimes controversial life that embraced everything from racing and the FIA to an unsung and significant role in global road safety. RIP
A certain poignancy in having Lewis Hamilton's national anthem, followed immediately by the winning team's - which is the German, heard 91 times when Schuey kept winning. Big

moment as Lewis holds Michael's crash helmet on the podium.

New series on F1 for Kids. First two paperbacks launched today by Pan Macmillan Children's Books. Very different - but fun to do! Fantastic illustrations by Cat Sims.
Can only join widespread affection and unanimous view that Gil was one of the nicest and most genuine people you could ever wish to meet. What a truly shocking loss. Thoughts with his lovely family and huge network of friends + colleagues throughout motor sport worldwide. RIP
One of the nicest guys I ever met. He made me laugh. He got it. Jesus, Gil, you left too soon. My sincere condolences to his lovely family and all who knew him (there are many, many, many) and all at McLaren. He was a fighter and a winner. Big loss.

As a fan in the Mallory Park paddock 50 years ago this morning, I took this shot of an unknown Austrian about to start his F2 career. I've no idea why. Little did either of us know what the next 5 decades had in store.

didn't complete lap 15. A column of black smoke told the awful story.
One of many great memories from the Aus GP in Adelaide; 1993, sitting in media centre writing race report of what would be Ayrton Senna's last

Simply the best.
We’ll miss you Tina. 🙏🏻

C.A.S. 'Tony' Brooks has died. Unsung hero; classy driver; one of the absolute all time greats (wins at the old Spa and Nurburgring say it all) and a gentleman of the Old School. RIP.
This is truly devastating news. One if the world’s nicest guys: absolutely no side to him and completely unchanged since he was a mechanic with Brabham in the early 80s. RIP
This was also the first GP covered by BBC's new 'Grand Prix' highlights programme, when we first heard 'The Chain' as the intro. Only recall that because I'm writing about it in a new book on Murray Walker (due for publication in November.

truly poignant moments. RIP Patrick.
Very sad to hear that Patrick Tambay has left us.
Patrick was a friend, and I have many shared memories.
He was such a nice guy, and a gentleman.
And a damn good race driver too.
Goodbye my friend.
Well that's the talking point for this weekend sorted. Particularly if it wrecks what was going to be a great fight.

doesn't need this. It's supposed to be 'racing'
#CanadianGP
HAM: 'It's really tyres. Everyone's doing 1 stop. This 1 stop thing is boring. At the end of the day, we're just all managing - which is not racing. Everyone's backing off so that tyres don't deflate, blow up, whatever. We have no idea what they're going to do.'

Amen to that
Another shocking piece of news this winter. Despite his aristocratic background, a real top bloke; one of the boys. Had us in stitches over his time as a van driver for Williams. Quick and stylish enough to win the F3 title. Lovely, lovely guy. RIP
What the hell is going on, now we’ve lost Johnny Dumfries at 62. A member of our ‘rat pack’ group, full of life and vigour, always with such style. Wonderful man and a fast driver. Condolences to his family. 😔
