On Wednesday, Aly Raisman filed a lawsuit against USAG, the USOC and Larry Nassar in a state court in California. It doesn't appear to name MSU as a defendant. Here's her statement:
Ex-MSU President Lou Anna Simon has been charged with lying to police about whether she knew it was Larry Nassar under a Title IX investigation in 2014.
Eaton Sheriff on Margraves:
“Here we got a victim’s father who heard for the first time in the courtroom of what occurred. I’m a parent myself, and hearing that for the first time, I can only imagine what he went through.”
Props to ESPN for the video on the Nassar survivors. It was honest, compassionate but didn't shy away from the abuse, the trauma and the widespread institutional failures.
Before the world knew Larry Nassar's name and his crimes, Andrea Munford and Angela Povilaitis boarded a flight to Chicago.

AG's Office has charged an MSU physicist with two counts of committing a crime against nature (bestiality), a 15-year felony for allegedly penetrating a dog with both his hand and penis, per release.
"They believed in us. Because they believed in us we started to believe in ourselves."
Before the "army of survivors" had the world's attention, Det. Lt. Andrea Munford's phone rang on a Thursday.
This is the story from the
@indystar
that started this all. It's from Sept. 2016 and
@markalesia
, one of the reporters who wrote the story, is in the courtroom today.
My first byline of 2019 is a story I've been working on for about 6 months.
In 2017, a long-suspected serial rapist went on trial for the first time. The Michigan trial didn't tell the whole story, and it's a story that isn't over.
Denhollander ends by asking Aquilina to sentence Nassar to the maximum because "everything is what these survivor are worth," a callback to the question near the start of how many a little girl and a young woman is worth.
A PR firm billed MSU for $500K as it tracked social media activity surrounding the Larry Nassar case, which often included victims and their families, journalists and others.
The charges are the result of an investigation by Ingham County Animal Control and Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.
The AG's Office said the dog, a bassett hound, has been removed from harm and is with county animal control.
Good morning. MSU Trustee Brian Mosallam released a statement a few mintues ago, calling on interim MSU President John Engler to "step down immediately."
Moments before he rushed at Nassar, Randall Margraves asked Cunningham, as part of her sentence, to give him 5 min in a locked room with Nassar. She said she couldn't do that. He asked for a min, she said she couldn't allow that.
Then he ran at Nassar.
Rachael Denhollander's sacrifices over 18 months helped one of the largest sex assault cases in US history find an uncommon end: Justice.
When it was over, she had the chance to return to the life she wanted. Rachael instead made a different choice.
The university's legal expenses related to Nassar it hit $9 million, a total that doesn't include the last few months of work done by its most expensive law firms.
Statement on settlement today says there are 332 Larry Nassar victims.
On Feb. 5, 2018 — 265 had come forward.
In Feb. 2017 — 81 had come forward.
In Oct. 2016 — 30 had come forward.
In Sept. 2016, Rachael Denholladner was the first to publicly say what Nassar did.
Some news from last night you may have missed:
The special prosecutor investigating MSU in the wake of the Nassar scandal accused the university's attorneys of impeding his investigation.
So now he's seeking a search warrant.
Amanda Thomashow reported Larry Nassar to MSU and police in 2014. She spoke during his Ingham County sentencing.
Now she's considering a run for MSU trustee.
Some personal news: Today was my last day at the
@courierjournal
. A great 3 years and I’m proud to have worked with so many fantastic journalists.
Next week I start as an investigative reporter with
@WisconsinWatch
. My main focus will be threats to democracy and voting rights.
For 2 1/2 years at the
@LSJNews
, I covered the Nassar cases and MSU’s failures.
I started at the
@courierjournal
in March thinking I was done. But it turned out there was another story to tell. You can read it next week.
It’s the story of Rachael Denhollander’s great sacrifice.
Today’s
@courierjournal
front page, special section and forum section.

US House Oversight Committee agreed to launch investigation into Larry Nassar scandal, sending letters to:
-US Olympic Committee
-USA Gymnastics, Inc
-Michigan State University
-Twistars gymnastics club
-Karolyi Ranch
Some breaking news: Judge Aquilina will keep the Nassar case.
Ingham County chief judge denied an appeal by Nassar's attys after she refused to remove herself from the case.
They can now appeal or have Aquilina rule on motion seeking new sentence.
Today was my last day at the
@LSJNews
. I’ve loved my time here. Please continue to support the paper’s work.
I start the new gig as an investigative reporter at the
@courierjournal
on March 25.
The PR firm, which no longer works with MSU, billed for work done by 18 employees who totaled 1,443 hours worked in January.
Five billed for more than $50K each, with one at $96,900 and another at $120,893.
I can confirm what others have reported. William Strampel, former dean of MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine, is being held in the Ingham County jail.
Ex-MSU president Lou Anna Simon is set to be arraigned at 11:30 am in Eaton County on charges she lied to police about Larry Nassar.
Due to publicity of Simon’s case, arraignment was moved to larger courtroom, the one where Nassar’s criminal cases ended in February.
In 2012, I went to the Kentucky Derby and won a little money on I’ll Have Another. Before leaving town the next day I grabbed a copy of the
@courierjournal
someone left at a coffee shop.
Seven years later and today is my first day at this newspaper as an investigative reporter.
A law firm said this morning that 100 Nassar victims have filed lawsuits since the $500M settlement agreement.
In the 722 days since the
@indystar
made allegations against Nassar public, more than 430 victims have come forward.
Nassar returns to court on Wednesday, this time in Eaton Count. The three sexual assault charges he'll be sentenced on relate to abuses at Twistars in Dimondale.
This is his third and final criminal case.
Some personal news: After nearly 4 years, my time at the
@LSJNews
is winding down. I've loved working here and working with some really talented journalists.
It's the best newspaper in the state and I'm honored to have been a part of it for as long as I have.
Updated story from Denhollander's impact statement:
"This is what it looks like when institutions create a culture where a predator can flourish unafraid and unabated."
In 2017, after avoiding charges for decades, a long-suspected serial rapist went to trial for the first time. The jury deliberated for a day and found him not guilty.
But that isn’t the whole story. And that isn’t the end of the story.
"We can't always achieve justice, but what we can always be is kind, compassionate, honest, believe our victims without judgement and fight like heck every single day on their behalf."
Starting March 25, I'll join the Louisville
@courierjournal
as an investigative reporter. I'm excited for the opportunity, the challenge and the newsroom I'll be joining.
One more piece of new for today:
In a letter to the NCAA, Michigan State said Larry Nassar sexually assaulted 25 student-athletes, but there were "no NCAA rules violations"
A lot of people are discovering the Nassar story for the first time and just now learning about how MSU fits into it all. That's understandable, but none of this is new.
16 months of

coverage. 137 stories.
Calling it a night. Still some groups out in downtown Louisville, but things are calming down.
I’m on my third furlough next week, so I’ll end with this: Support local journalism.
I see I’ve picked up a lot of new followers this week. Welcome. And don’t worry, I won’t be offended if you unfollow me when I start tweeting about the Cubs. Spring Training is around the corner.
A new lawsuit against MSU says that in 1992 Larry Nassar drugged and raped an athlete during a medical appointed.
It also says that current MSU Trustee George Perles intervened, and that the police department declined to investigate.
[Thread] It seems every day more and more people discover the Larry Nassar case and MSU's role.
That's good, but local reporters (LSJ & more) have been on this story for a while.
Here are some highlights from the
@LSJNews
coverage in the past 16 mths, which has focused on MSU.
A year ago this morning, Kyle Stephens gave the first of an expected 88 victim-impact statements
The 4 days scheduled weren't enough.
After 7 days and 155 women and girls, Rachael Denhollander asked the world, which was finally paying attention, how much a little girl is worth.
Larissa Boyce waited four days to speak at Larry Nassar's sentencing.
"I told somebody. I told an adult. I told Michigan State University back in 1997."
In April, Jordyn Wieber sued MSU and USAG. Her lawsuit said that USAG destroyed medical records "in order to further conceal the sexual abuse of (Larry) Nassar."
This happened yesterday.
Story from
@nrarmour
and
@RachelAxon
Interesting day so far:
9:17 a.m. — Former MSU gymnastics coach is arraigned on charges that earlier this year she lied to police about her knowledge of Nassar's sexual abuse in 1997.
11:15 a.m. — MSU says NCAA found no violations in its inquiry related to Nassar.
A little late breaking news:
Special prosecutor investigating MSU in the wake of the Larry Nassar scandal has accused MSU’s lawyers of interfering with his investigation by withholding documents and last week said he will seek a search warrant.
Good morning. Today could be a busy one with MSU/Nassar related news.
3:30 pm hearing in Judge Aquilina's courtroom for Nassar's motion for a new sentencing.
Ex-MSU gymnastics coach Kathie Klages, who was charged last week for lying to investigators, could be arraigned today.
@indystar
For that,
@IndyMarisaK
,
@starwatchtim
and
@markalesia
deserve a ton of credit. They uncovered widespread abuse within USAG, that brought Rachael Denollander to them. And that is why we're all here now.
I would like to pass along the thanks of a grateful reporter (me) to Aquilina for not sentencing Nassar in months, which is how they usually do it.
I'm not that good at math.
Wieber's talking about the transition from athlete to coach. She said she's looking forward to when she can get out and recruit for UCLA.
I get the sense she'll pretty good at that.
I'm always struck by what these women want to say during their statements. Some spend a great deal of time describing the abuse, some do that with the trauma.
Some take aim at MSU, USAG and others.
But it's clear they've all put a lot of thought into what they want us to hear

Yesterday, the
@LSJNews
published this 5,900-word story.
Here’s a 10-tweet thread explaining what went into it, because I think it’s important to show what goes into journalism. None of it’s magic.
I'm trying to figure out a way to accurately sum up Lemke's statement. Only thing that comes to mind is a verbal beating of MSU, USAG, Nassar, Simon, Geddert and Klages.
Six current or former Michigan State University medical professionals with ties to the Larry Nassar scandal are under investigation by the state's licensing agency.
Jordyn Wieber: "I thought that training for the Olympics would be hardest thing I would ever have to do. But the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do is process that I am a victim of Larry Nassar."
"These charges against Klages validate my truth and represent a huge step forward in my healing process.
"It is my hope that she will be held accountable for failing to protect me and other young athletes under her care."
