Client granted asylum just now. Judge said it's the most traumatizing affidavit he has ever read in his time as a judge and before that as a private practitioner. Kudos to DHS to agreeing to a very truncated hearing where no trauma was discussed and for them not asking any ?s.

I just had the most amazing experience in immigration court today. The IJ granted asylum to a very nice lady and DHS did not oppose, in fact, they had stipulated. I will not get into the details but this was a very generous act by the DHS attorney and the IJ. I am thrilled.

The coolest thing USCIS does is when it gets family members who apply for the same thing at the same time, they grant one really quickly and then take forever for the other. Mom and daughter apply for EAD, daughter gets it in a month, mom still pending after a year. So cool.

DHS stipulated to a grant of 42B today in Newark. It was a good case, but by no means a slam dunk. Combo of good TA and good IJ. My client has been here for 12 years and was caught at the border as a minor. TY Niz-Chavez. I first me this client in 2014, she was on an OSUP.

At a master today the IJ asked, "The respondent did pleadings back in 2013 and this case is still on the docket. It's an aged case. Can you explain what is going on?" Me: "Yea. They plead, got out on bond and this court did not scheduled them for a hearing until 2019."

Advice for 1Ls. Get involved with the smallest group at your school or create one. Become an officer. My law school gave student groups offices and $$ to hold events/meetings. Hold meetings and use the $$ to buy pizza. The smaller the group, the less you have to share.
