Hello
#MedTwitter
! My name is Mara Bahri and I'm an M4 at
@OhioStateMed
applying to

for
#Match2025
! ๐ง
Iโm interested in neuroimmunology, neuro procedures, and clinical research.
Outside of medicineโฆ.
Kevin Lee, an MS4
@OhioStateMed
+ newly matched into Neurology was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer in March of 2024.
Since his diagnosis, heโs had a brain biopsy, multiple LPs, and just finished his first round of chemotherapy.
Some friends of his, have created a GoFundMe to alleviate some of his financial burden. Any help is appreciated.
Beyond that, please consider sharing Kevinโs story and supporting this future neurologist. ๐ง
After completing 3,788 practice questions in the last 4 weeks, including 2,028 UWorld questions, 2 UWorld self assessments, 2 Free120s, 6 practice NBMEs and one OFFICIAL Step 2 exam laterโฆ
Iโm officially free from the reigns of Step 2!! ๐๐๐ป๐ฅณ

Catching rays before my EM rotation night shift, reflecting on how ~4 years ago I was accepted into med school with the goal of becoming a neurologist and today I had my first neurology residency interview.
Feeling grateful and excited for whatโs ahead.โ๏ธ

Not so fun fact, Jonathan Larson, who wrote Rent & Tick Tick Boom died of an aortic dissection caused by undiagnosed Marfan Syndrome :(

Looks like Boerhaave Syndrome - ruptured esophagus secondary to high pressure (due to severe retching due to alcohol/etc).
I remember it by thinking, the emesis/high pressure BORED through the esophagus, aka BOERhaave ๐ค
Iโm excited to share my *first* first-author paper was published today!
Grateful to my mentors for providing the autonomy to put this together and hopeful that it will have a positive impact on pts experiencing similar rare AEs.
More coming soon! ๐ง
Wrapped up my last week with the stroke team by doing my first champagne tap! ๐พ๐ง
By far, a highlight of M3 rotations and looking forward to doing many more :)
Between loving doing this LP and Botox in PMR, quickly noticing I love neuro procedures ๐

I love making ceramic creations (currently crafting my own dish set), practicing hot yoga, cooking oversized meals (and hosting others to enjoy them), and showering my Siberian cat with love.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone on the interview trail!
Day 2 of my stroke sub-internship and the highlight of my day was explaining a left internuclear ophthalmoplegia to the family and a pt with a brainstem strokeโฆ

Looking forward to next year as an M4! Thank you,
@ACTRIMS
for selecting such a beautiful destination too! ๐
THIS. ๐๐ผ
Had the opportunity during my neurovasc Sub-I
@OhioStateNeuro
to follow a pt who had a R MCA stroke.
Fast forward to my next month w/ Stroke Rehab
@ohiostatepmr
, I watched her progress daily. By discharge, she could functionally use her L hand again.
It was beautiful.
Specialties that don't get enough flowers are physical rehabilitation specialists (PM&R, PT, OT). There's a feeling I can't explain as a neurologist, watching your patient paralyzed in an acute critical state (e.g. stroke, GBS) then WALK into your follow up clinic appointment ๐ฅน
Last night, the students I tutor successfully applied UMN vs. LMN signs that Iโve been harping on for weeks, and I couldnโt be more proud. ๐ฅน๐๐ผ๐ง

Benign vascular tumor of blood vessels of skin and liver. Present at birth and often regress in childhood.
Contrasted with angiosarcoma, which is an aggressive malignant proliferation of endothelial cells of skin, breast, and liver. Associated w/ PVC/arsenic/Thorotrast exposure.

last week โ
& Dr. Hurbert got a new necklace (aka AirTag) and felt it was important to share how dapper he looks!!

Extremely valuable. I had 5 years between undergrad to starting medical school and those five years were quite formative. I traveled, finished a neuroscience masters, worked as a consultant, and made invaluable lifelong friendships (including my now fiancรฉ). Highly recommend!

If there is one thing med school has taught me, is how to study smarter.
My quiz 1 for Host Defense is tomorrow and covers 44 lectures that we learned in 7 days. In my first year of med school, the ENTIRE 5 week MSK block exam covered 63 lecturesโฆ ๐คฏ
Spent the last few hours learning how to make a journal figure using Adobe Illustrator and am quite happy with the final result, had to show it off!

Today was wonderful. Woke up unfathomably early for hot yoga, finished 6 lectures, and listened in on

Iโd say mixed connective tissue disorder. The sicca makes me think sjorgens (likely secondary), Scl70 suggests diffuse systemic scleroderma, and the stocking glove could be due to polymyositis. Would be interested in seeing the anti-U1RNP result!

I am seeing the comments it's a downward nystagmus, but I thought we determine the nystagmus based on the fast phase, so wouldn't this be upward nystagmus?
Also, vertical nystagmus would suggest brain pathology versus horizontal nystagmus suggests inner ear/ CN VIll pathology.
