Anyone who’s been in a sporting goods store between ‘94 and ‘04 knows full well ARs were still plentiful on the shelves.
Treat every gun as if it’s loaded.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; “empty guns” kill people every year.

One of the benefits we saw raising horses and cattle in Salmon was the abundance of collagen harvested from hooves. So much in fact that my glue company, Elmer’s Glue, has furnished the stuff for schools in every state.

Quick update since a handful of you are asking:
Family friend was able to check in on things.
It’ll be a solid couple days of gun cleaning, which, fortunately, I love doing.
Only real loss will be a couple thousand rounds of ammo.
