@reina_sabah
5’7” Indian lass here! Trust me, I felt like a giant at Indian weddings whilst growing up. The amount of people who would look at my feet first to see if I was wearing heels was unbelievable (if I could have gotten away with wearing Doc Martens with a sari, then I would) 🙄
After years of my lovely big sister
@neet__tweets
bugging me, the day finally happened! Despite being such a crap runner, this month I am raising funds for
@CR_UK
by running a total of 60 miles in September. I can finally justify wearing the famous
@runningpunks
T-shirt now…?
Morning
@runningpunks
! Just finished a gorgeous 5k run today around Kersal Wetlands, and the air was crisp enough for me to start getting excited about the autumnal weather coming our way. So close to the halfway point of my 60 mile challenge now as well (29.1 miles = ✅). Boom🤘🏽
It’s finally happened guys, I proper enjoyed my first solo 10k run by myself this morning! Shit. Does this mean I’ve actually started to LIKE running…?
@runningpunks
Today, after a wonderful 10 years, is my last day working
@SalfordUni
. I’m sad to be no longer working with
@Cockcroft_Labs
@SalfordUniTech
and other work colleagues, but I will be leaving with a heart full of memories and lifelong friends. Thank you all, for everything. ❤️ 1/2
And just like that, my ‘Run 60 Miles in September’ challenge for CRUK is finally over! I ran my local Salford Parkrun today to officially end this challenge at a total of 62.8 miles/101 km completed. Thanks for supporting me (and
@runningpunks
for accepting me into your gang!)
Just finished working my first week at
@LhouseLabsUK
@AlderleyPark
& apart from my back being sore (I’m just old, obvs!), I’ve been blown away by the positive attitude of workers and hearing stories of how they ended up volunteering there. Now I need a big glass of wine... 🦠🍷
It was truly a massive shock finding out that I had been nominated by my line manager and
@SalfordUni
for the
@timeshighered
Outstanding Technician of the Year award - thank you so much! Such a huge honour 😊
Morning
@runningpunks
! First dilemma of the day - spend an extra hour in bed or fit in a well needed run instead? Glad I went for a run, however I did not anticipate it being THAT muddy, I’m surprised that I didn’t fall on my arse! Might have to ask Santa for new trail shoes…
Thank you
@GemmaLace
for taking me out for a wee hot 7.5 mile
@runningpunks
jaunt today - tiring but amazing, and most importantly, some more crucial mileage clocked for my
@CR_UK
60 miles in September challenge! Over a third done, another 36.4 miles to go…
3 weeks ago, the day before his 38th birthday,
@obscure_comms
and I chose forever. Today, we were finally able to pick up our memory of that very special day.
Here’s to the next exciting chapter together - can’t wait to make it “official”! 🖤
#Engaged2022
In my 14 years of working as a technician, I have never experienced a more stressful time in my career. I have broken down several times over the last few months, and having to double up on workload with reduced staff numbers on site hasn’t helped either.
Find out who has been shortlisted for
#THEAwards
Outstanding Technician of the Year 2021 on our website .
Congratulations to the shortlist!
#TechsCommit
It’s finally here, the final face to face taught lab session of the semester (the grin on my face behind the mask won’t be easing up any time soon)! Thanks to my
@Cockcroft_Labs
colleagues who have worked tirelessly and have miraculously run classes under tough conditions👏🏼🎄🔬
I have been a lab tech of sorts for over 13 years. For 70% of the time, I LOVE my job. The learning, the problem solving, the interaction with staff and students, helping people, the hands-on practical work, the randomness of each day etc. The other 30%, it’s a real grind. 1/5
After a failed attempt last week during an absolute washout, I finally managed to take a few wildlife shots of the deer at Tatton Park yesterday morning. It was worth the early start to the day!
Well, this was a wonderful surprise to wake up to this morning! Thank you so much for my medal
@LhouseLabsUK
@AlderleyPark
, I will put this on my desk with pride
Not only was it my first time “officiating” a wedding today, but I “officiated” a lockdown Zoom wedding for around 80 guests! Huge congratulations to my bestie
@GemmaLace
and for not letting a wee global pandemic spoil her beautiful wedding day ❤️👰
Finished a day of training at the Covid-19 testing labs in Alderley Park. Felt a bit nervous at first, but knowing that some
@Cockcroft_Labs
techies are already there made me feel better! Proud that also I trained alongside one of our very own
@SalfordScience
PhD students too 👏🏼
Just worked my last ever shift at
@LhouseLabsUK
@AlderleyPark
, 5 plates done and hit my new PB in Workstation 1 (if you know, you know)! Thanks to everyone who has been so lovely to me for the last 7 weeks, but now its back to the "normal"
@SalfordUniTech
day job... 😄🧪🔬💻
All masked up and ready to hopefully head back onto campus to start some much needed work in the Cockcroft Labs! I do however feel like the world’s most rubbish Mortal Kombat character EVER.
It’s been an amazing experience working at the
@LhouseLabsUK
@AlderleyPark
labs helping test for COVID-19, from the impressive lab facilities (considering how quickly everything was put together) down to the amazing workers. I love seeing my
@SalfordUni
friends there too! 😄
Oh what a night it was at the
#THEAwards
! A huge congrats to all of the winners and shortlisters this year - considering the last few years we’ve all been through, everyone did incredibly well to get through it. What an honour it was to have attended, a memorable night for sure.
OUR BOY DID IT! Harrison, our wonderful technical apprentice, won an award for “Outstanding Apprentice/Trainee” by the
@istonline
yesterday at the
#ISTConference2019
in Birmingham - what a privilege, and so thoroughly deserved. Well done 👏🏼
@SalfordUni
@SalfordScience
After narrowly avoiding a number of minor heart attacks over the last few weeks, here we finally are...
Here’s our obligatory “New House” photo (sorry for looking like a mess, we’re both totally exhausted)! 🏡 🔑 📦
Such a fab professorial lecture by the lovely
@ProfChloeJames
this evening. Seeing your passion for all things microbiology (and phages!) was truly insightful & learning about your journey up to this point of your career
@SalfordUni
was so inspirational. Congratulations! 🦠 🧫 👏🏽
Slowly back into it after 2 weeks of stressful wedding antics followed by general laziness. What a morning for it though! Hope it’s not too frosty where you are
@runningpunks
🤘🏽
Out of office replies are now ON, work Outlook app on my phone turned OFF, and alcoholic beverage poured. It’s been a long time coming but I can’t believe that we’ve all actually survived a whole semester seemingly unscathed(ish). Chin-chin everyone! 🥃
After being ill and not running for 4 days, I’m finally back! Did some miserable treadmill runs the last 2 days due to bad weather and today the weather decided to play ball. Managed to run 5k too (albeit nearly crapping myself when some deer ran across my path)! 🦌
@runningpunks
So glad all of our valuable PPE within the building will be put to good use during these strange and surreal times. Very proud that our very own
@SalfordUni
nursing students will be out on the front line too 👏🏼
#TechniciansMakeItHappen
New artwork has finally gone up in the Cockcroft Building staircases! The images are just beeeeautiful 😍 a little difference goes a long way...
#nerdart
We may all be melting in this extreme freak heatwave, but the
@SalfordUniTech
technicians are still working hard collaborating together on campus to film important online teaching content for our students in the new academic year!

I was having a pretty bad day at the office/lab, and decided that I needed some much needed head space - I learnt this afternoon how to make a laser printed plant pot for my lovely new (and free) cactus with
@makeinsalford
! Thank you so much 😁🌵

Only 7 hours after getting home from Aberdeen,me and a bunch of other talented
@SalfordUni
staff and student volunteers ran a successful
@SalfordScience
outreach activity at Ellesmere Park High School! My group experimented with blood and how to work out a person’s haematocrit 💉
What a loooooong day it’s been. Got into work for 7am this morning...but when
@SalfordUni
campus looks like this, it almost makes getting up at stupid o’clock worth it!
I’ve been helping distribute ethanol to the building since I started at Salford Uni 7 years ago, and have always filled up this exercise book. This book started back in 1982 (just before I was born!) and we have finally reached the last page. I feel a bit nostalgic...
#loser
What a few days at the
@ThePhySoc
conference in
#Aberdeen
- met lots of lovely people and listened to incredibly interesting talks. Ended the experience with
@DocWithers1
’s talk on “Perivascular adipose tissue – an immune cell metropolis”. Thank you all, here’s to Berlin 2020!
How is the ceremony this week already? This is all still a bit of a very surreal dream - I’m feeling both nervous and excited about attending the
#THEAwards
in London this Thursday! 😳
🖤Happy Adoption Day, Benji!🖤
Me and
@obscure_comms
have lucked out big time, that’s for sure. Only picked him up this morning and already he’s being the bestest little boy! Thank you so much

Upon some self-reflection this week, one of the most scariest things that I’ve ever done was to completely change career paths in my late 30s, whilst still having a lot of financial commitments. All I had ever known up until 4 months ago was how to work full time in…(1/8)
It's International Day of Women in Science 👏🏽👏🏽 There are SO many talented women in science roles supporting all areas of science across the board - those who teach, those who work in labs, and those who work in offices, all squirrelling away. Hell yeah!
#WomenInSTEM
Bought myself a new gimbal for my phone, so needed an excuse to test it out over the weekend.
I know my camera work (and my editing skills for that matter) leaves a lot to be desired, but I guess that practise makes perfect...?
Another week of filming and video editing for online teaching content by the
@Cockcroft_Labs
technicians - we’re certainly being kept busy throughout lockdown 3.0!
#spielbergwannabes
But first, a well needed 2 week break before starting my new career in medical writing with the incredibly talented
@HAVASLYNXEU
! I’m excited to see where this new chapter of my life will take me, and I look forward to growing and learning with them. 2/2
As if yesterday couldn't get any better with the ELS graduation, I was absolutely delighted to find out that I had successfully been chosen to join the
@AdvanceHE
Aurora Leadership Development Programme in 2019!
@SalfordELS_SWAN
Covid-free house ✅
Complete first week of new job ✅
Out of office turned on ✅
Aaaaaaaand it’s finally time to have a decent break! It’s been one hell of a few weeks… 😬
TFI Friday. What a couple of weeks in the teaching labs, full on doesn’t even begin to describe it! BBQ on, check. Whiskey poured, check.
Happy weekend everybody! 🥃
However, I am proud to announce that from next week, I will be returning back to
@SalfordUni
! I will be working as a Learning Technologies Assistant within
@SalfordUniLTEC
, helping to support academic and professional services staff in using digital technology for teaching. 2/3
And in a blink of an eye, I’ve been in my (not-so-new) role for 2 whole months! I’m so fortunate to not only being able return to my previous place of work with open arms, but to also be given the opportunity to try my hand at something completely new (1/4)
Super excited about having a set of cutlery (including chopsticks, a straw and straw cleaner) all completely made of bamboo and environmentally friendly. Plus for nerd points, it looks like a snazzy new dissection kit 😁 thanks
@amylouisehall88
for the heads up! 🎋🍴🥢
If you’re free and fancy listening to me and
@andymiah
talking about all things technical (and other random things besides), then join us tomorrow lunchtime!
Rumour has it that Salford technicians don’t “retire”, they just end up in the basement of Cockcroft Building...and then eventually in the boot of somebody’s car with something shoved up a very tight place 😣
Despite feeling ill yesterday, today I managed a 7km run and now I’m over halfway (33.5 miles) through my challenge! If you’re able to donate anything towards life-changing cancer research, then I would super appreciate it. Thank you 🫶🏽
