A year ago, A White Supremacist opened fire in a historic Black neighborhood on the Northside of my hometown. Where did the money go for the community? Cause I haven't seen it.

Growing up in the '90s, I remember when they tried to ban Pokemon cards on school property. You know how many underground Pokemon clubs were run out of schools in Duval County. Y'all crazy.
Yesterday, My extended family came from all over the state to say goodbye to my youngest 1st cousin & second of my dad's generation to pass away. My generation is either married with kids or taking care of our aging family. As adults, we are not the mistakes of our parents.
As I’m sure a few of you have guessed: I have decided that Jacksonville, FL is not the city/state I want to continue to live in. We are selling our home (lemme know if you’re looking 👀) and moving to St Paul, MN.
I have spent over 30 years of my life here in Jacksonville. +

Whatever your race, ethnicity, economic situation, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, background or belief, age or condition of ableness, whether single or partnered, I know by virtue of being born; each of us has the absolute right to fully funded public school
I am a Disabled Substitute Teacher & Community Organizer born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida who believes that by virtue of being born, each of us has the absolute right to fully funded public education especially our traditionally marginalized & students with disabilities.
By virtue of being born, each of us has the absolute right to live free of violence. -- freedom of violence by an imperialist nation, police, a partner inside the home, a peer in their classroom, or a person on the street.

again on false accusations of abuse. I will sue your ass for slander. As a teenager who witnessed my mom being abused by my step dad & I was a victim of assault when I was 21. I was roofied. I was silent cuz no one listened to me
Disabled people’s lack of accessibility is not meant to inspire you when you see us struggle to navigate public spaces, it’s meant to anger you. Ableism is seeing our struggle as a beautiful triumph rather than an egregious failure of the system.
Growing up in Mandarin, I dealt with a lot of hateful people in my family, friends and other spaces. I never felt safe being my authentic self. For everyone like me who doesn't feel safe enough to speaking their truth, I see & hear you.

I am not your safe White Candidate who will be quiet about Racism, Ableism, Sexism, Imperialism, Colonialism, Homophobia & Transphobia. I am social scientist whose degree in Sociology. I study how society functions. My area of focus is in Religiosity & Education in young people.
July is Disability Pride Month. I am always proud to be disabled but right now, I’m enraged! Disabled people are actively being pushed out of society and punished for existing. With mask bans, our rights are being taken away and they don't care. Our rage is valid!
Samuel L. Jackson is a disabled king and acting legend.
He has a speech disorder, and a speech therapist recommended he pursue a career in acting. It forced him to work on his stuttering. Now, he’s an Oscar winner and the highest-grossing actor in history.

I had not been injured on the job before. The process to receive treatment was so convoluted and frustrating to say the least. Due to my CP diagnosis at birth, My future was rigged from the beginning because people in charge of my education put their political future over mine.
24 years ago, I would have accepted a White school board members admittance that they were wrong about racism. After being in the schools, I saw everyday how Black, Brown, Immigrant, & poor White in DCPS go through as a kid with a disability. An apology won't fix this.
@theBrianaMills
As a disabled adult who was left behind as a child. I say that as a reminder to not let our experience become the next generations truth.
As a victim of the first wave of Duval charter school take over in 2001, I wish yall understood the harm that it does to a child when your parents trusted the wrong people about your child's education & their future.

Column | When pro-choice zealots shed crocodile tears over proposals that would shutter prized neighborhood public schools, don't believe them. This is the future they wrought, and they knew or should have known this is what it would look like.
The social model of disability, by itself, is ableist. The idea that only societal barriers are disabling excludes people who are innately disabled such as those with chronic illness, chronic pain, depression, etc., and, as far as I can tell, it ignores the fact that some of us
“Should we have removed a monument to the confederacy designed to intimidate black people?” is not the kind of robust public discourse that positions a city to be a national destination of choice.

"Council members Kevin Carrico, Terrance Freeman, Reggie Gaffney Jr. and Ju’Coby Pittman abstained because of conflicts of interest."
There's a million people in this city and somehow we have a council where like 21 percent of the members have conflicts.
I Majored in sociology with a Minor Religious Studies to fully understand why my school system failed me even though In Florida No Child Left Behind was provided. DCPS must be held accountable for the trauma & harm caused to students, faculty, & our community for over 30 years.
By virtue of being born, each of us has the absolute right to fully-funded, free public education that fosters critical thinking, art, & wellness from Pre-K through college, the end of standardized testing, and raises for all public school teachers.

Someone who is off work sick, or can’t work due to disability, might be able to go out, socialise, exercise, etc…
Difference is that this is on their terms.
Also, if someone isn’t well enough to have a life outside of work… they’re not well enough to work.

I ran for office 22.
During our eight-month campaign, we raised just under $10,000 from grassroots donors and word of mouth. Although my opponent was elected, I felt vendicated in receiving 24,303 votes and 39% in a race that no one thought I would get even 10%.

Every single adult, teacher, manager, or boss, in my life has said this exact phrase. As a disabled teacher, I saw it in real time. It's disgusting how little we care about our children with accessibility issues

When many people state that lockdowns caused the deepest depression they’ve ever experienced, just a reminder that many disabled people are still in lockdown, four years later. Isolation is a form of torture. I want to live in a world where disabled people are wanted in society.

I took Intro to Sociology by Professor Christine Taff & found my passion in Educational Justice at FSCJ. I fell in love with the subject matter. Learning was fun and it made me use my critical thinking skills.
Now that the FL board of governors has proposed to remove sociology from social science the GE core curriculum, will we hear anything from SUS presidents? provosts? deans of the colleges of arts and sciences, defending inclusion? or once again the silence of the sheep?

White Supremacy is a Hella of drug. Addiction is hard. If only we had services to help. Then maybe our people getting shot at a Dollar General wouldn't have happened because it would've been unsafe to do in our city. Alas, Our leaders support white supremacist in

This is no joke. As our city council leadership holds a special meeting today push back AGAIN on the removal of the Confederate monument. They still over here fighting the civil war and believing 100+year old Lost Cause propaganda. And with all DEI now shutdown at UNF? Shame.
Imagine thinking there is any such thing as "public servants" in

anymore.
Can we visit the public servants store and demand a refund? Our Beaches Model needs to be reset to factory setting.
I am worried about the Black students getting called The N word by a teachers, worried about teachers having mental breakdowns in the parking lot before school. I am worried about students & teachers getting abused on school property. Story is the truth & the Truth is the Story.
DCPS: We don't have the money to keep all the schools open. We may need to discuss school closure in the future.
Duval Political establishment: Our 37 year old plan is coming together.

Should the people of Pennsylvania be concerned that their senator not only doesn't care about his appearance, but doesn't even understand why this is weird for some people? If it's so normal, then why does he get upset when you ask too many questions about it?
We will address the harm caused by neglect of our Past & Present leaders. Our marginalized communities are scared enough. I am going to show up with dogged determination. I will show up with dogged compassion. I want to be the dog in the fight for your right to be heard at 🏫
Your voice is all we have left. During National Speech- Language & Hearing Month, we need to remember not all voices are heard equally. We need someone who will make sure all voices are heard in our schools.
"Why all the days for disabled and LGBTQ+ people?"
Because systemic oppression still exists.
Because disabled people are disproportionately in poverty.
Because Queer folk are being attacked just for who they are.
Don't want the days to exist? End systemic oppression.
We’ve got veteran teachers in Florida having to work as DoorDash drivers, live in garages or leave the state altogether because Ron DeSantis and the Republican led legislature won’t fund public education. They’d rather attack it.

This isn't the Navy & we aren't in a dictatorship yet. I don't take orders. Sit your able bodied white male privilege ass down. As someone who has been in the classroom after lockdown who has seen the reality of what the culture war policies are doing to marginalized population.
If you are an educator and you truly support your craft and championing student outcomes, I do not understand how you can support this organization anymore. What does any of this have to do with public education? This is radical.
