First day as Headmistress! Thrilled to take up this role as the next stage in a long and happy career
@BoltonSchool
. Looking forward to welcoming our pupils and staff next week and excited about the year ahead.
@GSAUK
I am honoured to have been appointed permanently to the position of Head of Girls’ Division. I have enjoyed many highlights in my career at Bolton School, having joined as an NQT many years ago, and will relish the task of leading such dedicated and enthusiastic staff and pupils
Extremely proud to be the only person on both of these boards; one for distinguished service having worked at Bolton School for more than twenty five years and the other for being Head of Girls’ Division.

When I did my first ever tweet on 1 September, I never imagined that my 500th tweet (mostly retweets) would be six weeks later, nor that I would have 745 followers! A great sign of how busy school life is, how much is on offer to the girls and how supportive our parents are.

Thank you to our wonderful GD Catering Team for a surprise celebratory lunch - my favourite (homemade quiche), followed by homemade Victoria Sponge cake (pictured). Delicious and much appreciated!
Fantastic fireworks
@BoltonSchool
this evening. Many thanks to all those who came along and to
@bsgdpa
for organising everything so efficiently and selling a record number of tickets!
I have been busy preparing whole school assemblies this week. Topics include the Olympics, Afghanistan and supply difficulties and themes cover thinking positively, acting with courage and being resourceful. Really looking forward to bringing the school community together again.
Just coming to the end of my first year as Head of Girls’ Division and my first year on Twitter. Fantastic to connect and share experiences with so many others working in education, as well as parents and colleagues. Here are some of my favourite memories from 2021/22!

Welcome to The Hive, the new curriculum support area in school. Mrs Wright, Miss Reade and Mrs Sells also offer additional pastoral support here.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first week back. First staff meeting, first whole school assembly and Presentation Evening all done. Thanks to all our hardworking teaching and support staff for all their efforts. We are all now looking forward to the weeks ahead.
@GSAUK
Thank you to all those pupils, parents and colleagues - past and present - who have sent such kind messages today. I am looking forward to playing my part in the wider Bolton School Foundation this year and am grateful to you for your best wishes and your overwhelming support.
We celebrated the extracurricular life of school in Assembly today, with certificates for members of the following clubs: Photoshop, Astrophysics, Japanese, Karate, Board Games and Year 7 Science. The successes of pupils who recently took Music Exams were also applauded.
Looking forward to seeing staff again tomorrow and to welcoming all of the Girls’ Division Year 12 students for their induction day, which also takes place tomorrow (Monday)

Some pictures from our gowning assembly last week as the outgoing Year 13 Prefects handed their gowns to the newly appointed ones. Head Girl Summer handed over to Anika. I am hoping that we continue to hear what the prefects are up to on Twitter
@BSGDprefects
My first ever tweet! A lot has happened since then…… I was appointed as Head of Girls’ Division on a permanent basis…….two new Deputy Heads, two new Assistant Heads and two new Heads of School on SLT….. plus over 4000 tweets and over 5000 followers. Looking forward to 2023!

The Prefects, pictured here just about to process into the Great Hall for today’s Whole School Assembly, were awarded their Prefect Badges today. Thank you to them all for the great work they have already done this year.
Context is king. Whole school assembly today in which Mr Britton reminded us that context can shape our interactions and how what one person thinks they say might not be what the other thinks they hear. He reminded us that it is often wise to stop and think before we respond.
Thoroughly enjoyed walking the Pasture Beck Round today, ticking off three Wainwrights, Hartsop Dodd, Stony Cove Pike and Gray Crag. Looking towards Ullswater on the photo, with
@Patterdale_Hall
hiding behind Arnison Crag, middle left. A weekend of two halves!
Gold Award for our Concert Band, with Outstanding Performance awarded to the Percussion section
@NCBF_festival
. Congratulations to the Band and to its conductor, Miss Sherry
Prizes and sports captains badges awarded in whole school assembly this morning. I also talked about hidden talents; mine is being able to solve a Rubik’s cube.
Thanks to our PA, the Estates team, Catering department, Housekeeping staff, a host of staff, pupil and parent volunteers and a range of external food outlets for all their hard work in creating such an enjoyable evening

Very proud of our Year 7 pupils tonight. An outstanding feel-good concert, delivered with confidence and joy. What a super way to round off our first half term!
The stage is set for our concert tonight! The only thing missing now are our fabulous Year 7’s and wow did they sound amazing in rehearsals. Good luck everyone and sing your hearts out 🎼❤️🎼
Three more Wainwrights crossed off the list today; Grike, Crag Fell and Lank Rigg. This is the view of Ennerdale from the summit of Crag Fell. 202 down, 12 to go!
Three more Wainwrights ticked off today - Tarn Crag, Calf Crag and Gibson Knott. The photo shows the mighty Howitzer on the summit of Helm Crag, with Grasmere in the distance.
Very proud of the
@BSGDMusic
Lower School Choir, who sang at Thursday night’s
@SheInsprAwrds
at The Bolton Stadium Hotel. A rousing performance of “Roar”
Delighted to see what I am almost certain is the first ever Twitter account for the Prefects! Very much looking forward to getting a taste of school life
@BoltonSchool
from a student perspective.
Just coming up to six months on Twitter and averaging 65 tweets and 95 new followers a week, not what I was expecting at all! Many thanks for all the positive feedback from parents, and indeed pupils and colleagues. Some of my highlights below (click for the music)…….
4000 followers - in ten months on Twitter. Great for sharing news and information with parents, recruitment of staff and pupils, marketing and building relationships with other schools and organisations. It’s been an education!
Many thanks to Mrs Elkin for delivering this morning’s fascinating whole school assembly about the human brain as part of
#NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek
.
See for more information.
Four Wainwrights done today in hot weather; Grey Crag, Tarn Crag, Branstree and Selside Pike. Photo from Tarn Crag; you can just see Windermere in the distance. Fellow mathematicians will recognise the significance of reaching 193!
The Great Hall is ready for Open Morning. Each session will begin with a talk from myself and some pupils, visitors will then be given a tour of the school.
Great view of Crummock Water and Buttermere, with Fleetwith Pike in the distance, on the way up to the Melbreak summit. One more Wainwright ticked off.
Below is a list of key appointments made for the new academic year in September, following my appointment as Head of Girls’ Division earlier this year. Congratulations to these staff on their new roles.

Thank you to Mr Winrow for leading this morning’s assembly in which feedback was given from the Year 10 Christmas Post. An incredible £1,862.87 was raised for Period Poverty UK. Thank you to all involved.
Prefects’ gowning assembly this morning; the first picture showing the outgoing prefects about to lead in for the last time, the second picture showing an outgoing prefect handing her gown to an incoming one.
After a morning watching
@BoltonSchool
girls participating in sport at school, I’ll be spending the evening supporting another young British sportswoman…
I have received so many positive comments from parents, alumni, colleagues and indeed students about the increased use of Twitter. In addition, it is allowing new links to be made with other schools and organisations, assisting with pupil recruitment and establishing partnerships

Thank you to our past and current Head Girls and our Vice Chairman of Governors for their inspiring speeches at tonight’s Presentation Evening, and to all our Special Guests for joining us tonight.
The extracurricular life at school is so important and is the focus of our achievement assemblies this term with pupils being rewarded for taking part in the vast array of clubs that are on offer
