I really do wonder what it will take to see urgency around issues of the CTA. There’s a disconnect in regards how many hundreds of thousands rely on it daily (900,000 according to a recent WBEZ article) and the urgency needed to make CTA a priority. It’s not a marginal issue.

There’s some deep undertones to expressing the insignificance to running a classroom. Educators are skilled and multifaceted and it says a lot when an attack is on the backs of teachers. Working in schools and in classrooms gives one some of the deepest insight to our city.

I always think of growing up in West Humboldt Park & the guys my brother hung out with. It was kind of hard for any young brown guy not to be seen as a “gang member.” Some were, some weren’t. It didn’t matter. You were a target by police.

This made me so sad to read. Guadalupe Perez, better known as Don Lupillo, passed away due to COVID-19. He was a street vendor in Little Village, a staple of 26th Street. There is a GoFundMe set up for his funeral costs.

It’s been a very interesting election cycle. It’s just perpetually fascinating to me how public school teachers are framed as the enemy and as the reason for a “failing city.” That narrative should be consistently challenged. Teachers sustain a city.
