I don't think this graphic can be shared enough. Of the almost 38,000 Chicagoans who filled out the city budget survey this year, 87% want to reallocate resources from the police budget. City keeps creating engagement processes, but no signs they actually listen to outcomes.

Students at Little Village HS held a walkout today before spring break. For those of you unfamiliar with the history of LVHS, the school was built after a 19-day hunger strike by community members demanding a school. Vallas was CEO of CPS at the time of the strike in 2001.

It’s a Christmas miracle. The last remaining member of my immediate family is getting his vaccine because he said “he can’t do nothing without it.” The forthcoming Chicago vaccine mandate was the thing that finally did it for him. 💥

It’s interesting how ppl see Uber/Lyft as being a safer option for women traveling at night. I think frequent, accessible transit will always beat 1 on 1 private rides w/ strangers. It’s sad that feeling safe at night for many means very few options for getting home.

I really do wonder what it will take to see urgency around issues of the CTA. There’s a disconnect in regards how many hundreds of thousands rely on it daily (900,000 according to a recent WBEZ article) and the urgency needed to make CTA a priority. It’s not a marginal issue.

I always think of growing up in West Humboldt Park & the guys my brother hung out with. It was kind of hard for any young brown guy not to be seen as a “gang member.” Some were, some weren’t. It didn’t matter. You were a target by police.
