Some personal news: I'm now the Editor-in-Chief of
@TheAVClub
! It's been a lovely homecoming so far, but we're just getting started with our plans for this summer and beyond.
Dusted off the byline for the official song list for A.V. Undercover season 9
Parasite was miles ahead of 2019’s other class warfare movies. Its message was more powerful: That when you try to beat capitalism at its own game, you’ll always shed more blood of the working class than the elite
Tina had lived in the city at least 15 years (that's how long she was at her previous job), she would know what an Italian beef is. This city is segregated, but not so segregated that an "Italian" sandwich would be so foreign of a concept
It just occurred to me that this show may take place in an alt universe where the Berzatto family invented the Italian beef and Chicagoans never talk about where they went to high school
Knives Out had the weakest critique, despite its star power. It changed the players, but not the game. Ready Or Not was more straightforward (& therefore potentially more cathartic) in its viciousness, but its critique felt more one-dimensional
I don't care about Jack, Rose, and the door — I just need to know if James Cameron's new Titanic special reveals how Britney Spears ended up with the Heart of the Ocean necklace
UPDATE: The seven A.V. Club workers in Chicago have decided to take their union-contract-protected severances rather than move to L.A. without a cost-of-living adjustment. A statement from the union (1/X):
I will stop tweeting about Inventing Anna soon, but one of the most inadvertently funny things abt it is how it treats Anna Delvey as some kind of genius for fooling rich ppl. Have you met the rich? They’re not that sharp
Bummed that Succession is not in the running this year, because it means we don't get to see Jeremy Strong dressed as the ghost of one of his ancestors
It potentially sells South Side short to call it a great Chicago show, because it was one of the best comedies, period. But I will really miss the way it brought my city to life
1. Add
@OneDayAtATime
S3 to your "My List" on Netflix
2. If you can, start watching immediately
3. Then come back and read about how much I love this show.
So moved by the love and support. I used to walk up Orleans from the old Sun-Times bldg, stop and look at The A.V. Club listing in office directory at The Onion HQ and think, "I'm going to work there someday." And now that dream has come true twice

If you aren't already, you should be watching .
@OneDayAtATime
. The cast is winning, the storylines are thoughtful, and the writing both warm and hilarious. It will make you laugh AND feel so many things.
The
#InterviewWithTheVampire
S2 panel is really just a lot of great (and great-looking) actors dressed in black and giggling — great way to combat the gloomy weather

So,
@ChrisEvans
’ preferred hangover movies are the LOTR/Hobbit ones. Trust me, this info got a huge reaction from the
#ACEComicCon
crowd at Navy Pier.
It's time for me — for us all, really — to say goodbye to
@primetimercom
. Today, we publish our final stories. Here's my sendoff to the site, which we did our best to make a haven for great TV writing, and a plea to support independent media.
Some more personnel news (whattayear it's been): I'm delighted to share that I'm the new Editor-in-Chief
@primetimer
! Wrapping up my first week on the job, but I'm already enjoying working with this team so much. We're going to do great things
Showtime canceled Ray Donovan after seven seasons. I never watched it, but here are some things I assume happened on the show about a morally compromised "fixer"
Is this a good time to mention that the one thing they agreed to in our counter offer was letting us buy our 5 y.o. laptops (i.e., the one thing that made them money?)
Picture Hannah Waddingham saying this after kicking/chopping the air in strapless pantsuit: “In a world in which aging, specifically female aging is kind of something to be feared, this is a show about striding towards your prime and realizing you are at the height of your power”
Happy Russian Doll week to all who celebrate.
I really enjoyed Rachel Syme's profile of Natasha Lyonne for The New Yorker. I've been thinking about this line in particular for the last week
#Primo
, one of my fave new comedies of the year, is out today. You can make it through all of S1 in less time than it usually takes your family to decide what to watch (maybe that’s just my family)
With its playful and stylish two-part debut,
@RezDogsFXonHulu
is already on track to be one of the best comedies (and shows) of the year.
(Also, it's only been 2 eps, but I already know I WOULD DIE FOR THESE KIDS)
"I am not the character I play," says Tim Allen of
#LastManStanding
's Mike Baxter, which is interesting since he previously described the character as a “funny, likable conservative”.

Sorry if I bailed on you at some point in the last month or 2, but I was putting together THIS LIST (w/ the help of some amazing people) in btwn covering launch of 2 new streaming platforms (not to mention cable/network premieres)
Year-end content idea: all the companies that issued statements about standing with Black people and increasing DEI efforts should release progress reports
For the latest in our series of

interviews, I spoke w/
@robinthede
about knowing
@BlackLadySketch
deserves a spot in the Variety Sketch Series race and the great advice she got from Larry Wilmore
