I have a request:
Normalize MLB managers running out to argue with the iPad in their hands to physically show the home plate umpire just how wrong/awful their call was
Aka channeling their inning Pat Bev putting a camera in the ref’s face
There’s a group of Mariners that are regularly out for early batting practice around 2 PM for a 6:40 game. It’s usually similar faces (Rojas, D-Mo, Seby)
I haven’t seen a single day where Luke Raley isn’t out there. Dude wants it. And works his tail off
We simply are not talking about Josh Rojas’ third base defense nearly enough
He enters today with 5 Outs Above Average, ranking in the 96th percentile
And he’s been PHENOMENAL with these barehand plays. Almost Seager-esque
First hits are such a symbolism of everything that a player has worked for to get to where they’re at. I never get tired of watching them
And Ryan Bliss being an A++ dude just makes this one even more awesome
Bro that lands halfway up the batters eye with it already being 410 to center 😳
Two home run night tonight. Now OPS’ing 1.362 in the Complex League
The Felnin Celesten hype train is absolutely full steam ahead
Here’s a crazy but not outlandish thought
There have been 6 Mariners to ever have a 20-20 season. And there’s been one in the last 20 years (Julio)
Dylan Moore legit has a chance to be the 7th. HR pace will have to pick up a little, but there’s a shot
I’m in awe of Victor Robles
2/2 today with this nuke and a stolen base
He entered today with a 134 WRC+
How long will this keep up? TBD
But right now he legit looks like the top prospect that he was once heralded to be
And that’s pretty cool
Thrilled to share that this season I’ll be joining the Dayton Dragons broadcast team (High-A affiliate of
@Reds
). Can’t wait to work with such a phenomenal organization
@DragonsBaseball
Let’s call some games!
It’s now officially official. From my first day of kindergarten, until the time I graduate from Arizona State in May, the Seattle Mariners will have appeared in zero postseason games.
When you feel down/frustrated with your team, let this help you see things glass half full
Dear baseball gods,
On behalf of the entire PNW, I apologize for whatever damage we did that caused you to put this curse on our ball club. But after 17 years plus this, I think you’ve made your point. I beg you, please lift this curse.
Sincerely,
A loyal M’s fan
#TrueToTheBlue
We've talked about this on the show, but wishing the best to
@OnAirJustin
in his new role within our building. Justin added a ton of personality, fun, creativity and Montananess to the show.
Please welcome
@lylegoldstein
from
@MarineLayerPod
who will be with us moving forward!
I do wanna say this
Mariners fans are awesome. No matter how many times the fanbase gets knocked down, they always show you how much they care
When they saw a chance to leave their mark on Shohei, they took it. You saw nothing like this anywhere else
I’ve worked a long time for this. Cool to see goals become accomplishments, especially on a list with so many ridiculously talented sportscasters.
Thanks to
@STAAtalent
and huge congrats
@Scotty_G6
, couldn’t think of a better Sun Devil ambassador to hoist that trophy!! 🔱🔱

Sheesh, what a month for Seattle.
All nerves aside, on Tuesday I got the chance to get on a FOX (affiliated) broadcast and call the Top of the 4th Inning of the YD vs Hyannis
@Official_CCBL
game during the 4th of July on
@FoxCollegeSport
📽️Full Video:
Couldn’t be more excited to share that I’ll be heading to Cape Cod this summer as a play-by-play broadcaster for the
@harborhawks
of the
@Official_CCBL
. Thanks so much to everyone that’s helped me get to this point!
Now added to the top line in the “Achievements” section of my resume:
Shouted out on MLB broadcast for helping promote Babe Ruth conspiracy theories
(This was really cool)
Also, just to clarify for anyone curious:
What changes now with
@MarineLayerPod
?
Absolutely nothing
I’m just (happily) keeping myself even busier nowadays
Freshman year Lyle wanted to write. Doing something like this was a mere afterthought. But 3 years later, here we go.
93rd Territorial Cup between Arizona and ASU. Catch
@JoshSchaefer25
and I on the call tonight for
@Blaze_Sports
. Kickoff at 10pm ET
📻:
So what this says to me is that the Vladdy trade was gonna take too long to get done and wasn’t gonna happen before tomorrow’s deadline
So by trading for Turner the M’s:
1). Find a temporary solution at 1B
2). Can (and likely will) circle back to Vladdy in the offseason
With almost every championship caliber team, there is an unexpected breakout candidate. For ASU Baseball, many signs point to it being sophomore Will Levine after major physical and mental improvements this offseason.
My story for
@sportscronkite
⬇️
Seeing the discourse on this
Mariners fans: “this team doesn’t want to win, they’re not gonna make any moves”
Also Mariners fans: “I’m gonna be LIVID if we acquire the guy who had the highest WRC+ among all 3B in baseball with four years of club control”
The Mariners and Rays are trade partners to watch in Nashville this week.
They have spoken about Isaac Paredes, as I reported earlier today.
Randy Arozarena is available, and it is believed his name has come up in different scenarios, as well.
@MLB
@MLBNetwork
Scott Servais learned of his firing this morning from a breaking news alert on social media, a couple hours before he was scheduled to meet with Jerry Dipoto.
So we can give him SOME credit for owning up to having a bad game
But also
“I was up at 3:30 this morning” ??? Lol
The goalposts these dudes try and move to avoid being held accountable at all costs
Pretty cool to be taking home a trophy for doing what I love.
Humbled to be receiving the
@IBSRadio
award for winning Best Women’s Basketball Play-by-Play. Thanks to everyone
@Blaze_Sports
who made this possible!
We’ve definitely had a couple of “wow” moments in the year and a half of doing this podcast so far
I don’t think anything tops this. We can’t wait
(Will we be mentioning a certain upcoming hike on Friday?? You’ll have to tune in and hear for yourself 😏)
Some news:
This Friday (July 5th), the two of us will be hosting “Brock & Salk” on
@SeattleSports
from 7AM to 10AM PT
We’re absolutely fired up to fill in and hit the airwaves to talk Mariners with you all!
With this being my last week on Cape Cod, I realized that I haven’t tweeted too much over the past two summers about the league, the experience, etc. So I thought I’d make a thread over the next few days ⬇️
I’ve very publicly said in the past that I would hike Mt Everest on my hands and knees for the M’s to trade for Kyle Tucker
Well…
I would sacrifice every single thing I have to my name for Shohei to be a Mariner
This was pretty cool.
@AustinLively
(my friend and former
@KangsBaseball
teammate) wasted no time in his
@Official_CCBL
debut, going 3-for-3. I got to watch it from up close and had a couple things to say about it as well after base knock No. 3
“Look I know it’s been a tough weekend for the Mariners but as a die-hard baseball fan I’m still absolutely gonna be in front of a TV to watch some marquee ball”
SpongeBob Narrator: “a few moments later”
😑
I received a distress signal from the M’s this afternoon stating that they needed me and my good luck after losing 5 in a row (I’m 8-2 at games this season including 4 walk-offs).
Like the old saying goes, ask and you shall receive

Sammy Sosa was my absolute favorite player to watch as a little kid.
Funny Story: When I was 5 years old and found out Sammy corked his bat, I took a bunch of wine corks from our kitchen and taped them to a whiffle ball bat, thinking it would help me hit for more power 🤷🏻♂️
Opening Night: a Temp player named Barefoot came off the bench in a blowout vs Falmouth and corked a 2-Run HR.
43 games later, the
@GoCamelsBSB
OF took the
@Official_CCBL
by storm and had (arguably) the best summer of any player. Will definitey miss watching him play each night
When you talk about the best hitters in the sport, any conversation that doesn’t include Ty France is objectively wrong
*If he was a Yankee he’d be mentioned in the first breath*
#NewProfilePic
Back story: Monday was the Fenway Workout Day for the Cape Cod League.
@BradyVernon
and I managed to finesse a way to play catch on the field but I forgot my glove in Seattle all summer. So I had to improvise...
P.S nice throw Brady 😒
We’re 1 week from Opening Day, and there’s more reasons to be excited about the Seattle Mariners in 2021 and beyond than there have been in a long time. Sadly other offseason headlines overshadowed that.
So for the next week I thought I’d make a thread highlighting the positives
ALREADY back to subtweeting?? 😂
Story writes itself
On that note, the tons of amazing people we’ve met at the ballpark know this, but I’ll put it out there for anyone else interested: if you’re ever at a game and want to say hey/talk ball, we’d genuinely love to! Send us a DM
We’ve been doing a bunch of content at our final day of Spring Training
Three from today that we’re hyped about:
• Jerry Dipoto
• Felnin Celesten
• Lazaro Montes
ON the other hand, tonight was my 6th and final time traveling to Spillane Field (Wareham). The 2nd picture is actually where I broadcast the games (atop the dugout).
I was taught in pre-school that if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. I’ll apply that here
I was forced by
@tjmathewson
to make a 3,100 Mile road trip from Seattle to Cape Cod. I despise long car rides.
Although we may stop at some interesting places on the way. This was our first checkpoint ⬇️
Guys, I can’t even begin to hide it. I’m SO fired up for our
@MarineLayerPod
guest on Wednesday’s show
It’s one of our white whales
And we’ve been working to make this one happen for over a year now
*it’s not a player/anyone in the organization, but it’s someone really cool*
Every Mariners fan should follow
@zachleft
on here. Makes some hilarious CableThanos type videos that are just waiting to blow up at that level
P.S… extend Mitch
A couple weeks ago, I made my final trip here (Veterans Field in Chatham). This place is just awesome. “Something out of a Norman Rockwell painting” is how many describe it.
*Side Note: I never saw Eldredge Park (Orleans) at night before this summer. Both are Cape League gems
New ASU lefty Justin Fall is expected to pitch toward the top of the rotation come Opening Night. With the help of pitching coach Jason Kelly, he's been locked in on all offseason on doing just that, and helping his team accomplish a whole lot much more. My story: ⬇️
"He’s a worker man," pitching coach Jason Kelly said about Justin Fall.
Fall just wants to get to work in Tempe, and there’s plenty of high expectations for the tall lefty.
As I leave the Cape for the final time, what made these 2 summers were the people I met. To all my ASU friends I became closer with & every friend I made from Cuse, Miami, ND, IU, N’Western, Penn St & all the small schools I learned of, thank you. I’ll see you guys down the road
Julio is 1 of 6 players in MLB with 20 2B, 20 HR and 20 SB’s on the season
He has a 154 WRC+ since July 1
He’s playing the best outfield defense in the game by OAA
He has nearly a 4.5 fWAR in mid-August
Remember when he was having a “down year”
I’m now doing some writing for
@JustBB_Media
(covering the Mariners and other general MLB stuff)
My first article details JP Crawford. The decision to stick with him over going the free agent route, and how Seattle will need much more from him on both sides of the ball in 2023
The Seattle Mariners will need J.P. Crawford at his best if they really want to contend with the Houston Astros in the AL West this season.
Our
@Lyle_Goldstein
delivers his first article on Seattle's shortstop that needs to deliver:
I’ve become such a Victor Robles fan in the incredibly short amount of time that he’s been here. He’s the absolute man
Thrilled for him
Thrilled the Mariners got this one done
And can’t wait to keep seeing this type of energy at T-Mobile Park for the next couple years
Victor Robles has loved his time in Seattle. Why is that? He uses one word, that pretty well encompasses him as a player and his Mariners tenure so far
We bring you the first episode of Hawk'N Hangout, a brand new segment!
@LyleG13
and
@BradyVernon
catch up with Seth Gray (
@WSUBaseball
) asking him 10 out of the ordinary interview questions
“Seahawks are done” they said.
“Their window of success is closed” they said.
“They’re gonna have a Top 5 pick” they said.
Yeah, about that...
#Seahawks
We’re two good friends who love to talk to each other about our favorite baseball team, while also trying our best to be creative
To see people take genuine interest in that has been really cool. Hope to meet all of you in person at some point!
🎉YEAR 1 🎉
Thanks so much to everyone that’s taken any time to watch/listen. You guys are the absolute best. Can’t wait to see what year two has in store!
I’ll take a WAC showdown, hold the Starbucks
Stephen F Austin and
@seattleumbb
squaring off at Climate Pledge Arena. Tune in at KXSU 102.1 FM, on the air for the pregame show at 6:45 PM. Tip off at 7 PM
📻
East Lansing was surreal. Hands down one of the coolest things I’ve ever had the chance to do.
And it was a thriller of a game, to say the least. ASU wins 3 out of 3 entering Pac-12 play
LISTEN: After a Spartans missed 47-Yard field goal, ASU hung on last night to take down Michigan State and move to 3-0 in 2019.
@LyleG13
had the final call ⬇️⬇️
I can’t stop watching this strikeout and honestly my favorite part about it (aside from the pure dominance from Andres)
Michael Kay just sounds so fed up over how this game unfolded 😂
Last year when I was in Dayton, there was a broken game bat sitting in the equipment room. My friend who was the clubhouse manager was nice enough to ask if I wanted to keep it
I said yes. And let me tell you… I’ve got no plans to ever sell it
*Also, get him in the HR Derby*
Kyle Lewis might win the AL Rookie of the Year and now the
#Mariners
have added Taylor Trammell to their OF prospect stable with Jarred Kelenic and Julio Rodriguez.
Not too many better places to call a game than the Coliseum, and not many people (if any) I would rather be broadcasting my first
@ASUFootball
game with
