Great news: our bioveterinary lab in Lelystad @WURbvr has offered to start diagnostic testing of #COVID19 in patient samples &from next week can handle 1500 cases/day, a huge improvement on current total capacity in NL of 2000/day. I am proud of our very experienced crisisteam!💐

A millennia old olive tree is a beautiful example of how, traditionally, humans & nature interact by protecting new shoots, pruning, grazing animals under the tree who provide manure, combatting erosion & making structures to catch rainwater. Let’s be inspired by this interaction

The at least 2,000 year old olive tree of Vouves,on the island of Crete,still bears olives. The tree stood here when Rome burned in AD64, and Pompeii was buried under a thick carpet of volcanic ash in AD79. Cemeteries from the Geometric Period (900-700 BC) were discovered nearby.

Mortality due to natural disasters is not increasing, not even from extreme heat, floods or drought, even although world population has increased dramatically. Of course every avoidable death is one too many, but this should inform our debate about adaptation @OurWorldInData

Some worry about #carbohydrate -rich foods such as bread, pasta, chapatis, potato or rice. Unnecessarily so. These essential energy sources are with us since agriculture started. If combined with vegetables & esp plant proteins they are part of a healthy diet #kitchenthoughts

Further to our @WURbvr action to increase #diagnostic testing for #COVID19 nearly all other @wur units have decided to join their expertise for a post-Corona approach: 1 early detection &screening of pathogens; 2 targeted approach for rapid up-scaling in diagnostics. Great work💐
