Racing's biggest move in 2022 simply has to be to separate itself from 'gambling' at Casino, Lottery etc. The two are completely different - betting on racing, sport, politics is a skill akin to betting on the stock market, commodities etc.

Just arrived in Melbourne for the lead-up to the #MelbourneCup , but wanted to point out a few brilliant aspects of Japanese racing that I saw at the Tenno Sho. 1) JRA offer punting courses throughout the day in 3 class rooms. Great to get newcomers to understand the great game.

This is why having children go free to racecourses is so important and so welcome. So many replies in here about parents and older relatives taking children racing and picking up the bug. Another reason why racecourses need to work hard on making families welcome.

To put this in to context, there were 1,577,760 votes in the Arima Kinen fan vote. At the last UK general election, there were 1,508,800 votes combined for the SNP, DUP and Sinn Fein. As a comparison, the Lib Dems received 2,371,910. Racing is a BIG DEAL in Japan.
