After further investigation we have discovered that the cause of this morning's power outage in South Tahoe was a crow that got into the capacitor bank at the substation. Out of respect for the crow's family we will not be posting pictures.

We are aware of an outage affecting the majority of the North Tahoe area and north to Portola. The issue is on the NV Energy side. We are working with NVE to restore power as soon as possible. Estimated time of restoration is not available yet.
Power was restored to the Meyers and Christmas Valley areas as of 8:30PM on 9/1/21. Caldor Fire Incident Command determines what power lines can be re-energized safely. Liberty will continue to work with Incident Command to reenergize areas. All Updates:

As of 7 p.m. today, December 15, 2021, about 1,900 Liberty customers are out of power. Most impacted customers should have received direct contact via phone, text, or email with estimated restoration times.
Caldor Fire Update: Liberty is assessing areas in its service territory affected by the Caldor Fire for the safe rebuilding of damaged electric infrastructure. 12 customers remain out of power. All Caldor Fire updates from Liberty:
We are aware of the power outage affecting the entire north side of our service territory. NV Energy has cut power to the transmission line servicing this area due to a fire in Verdi. There is no restoration time currently available. We will update when information is available
Liberty Utilities is NOT anticipating a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). We are monitoring weather and conditions on the east slope differ from PG&E territory to the west. Rest assured that if/when we do anticipate a PSPS, we will communicate loudly across all channels.

Tree crews will be at work in the following areas this month: North Lake crews will be in Truckee & over Brockway Summit, some areas of Tahoe City, & the line between Kings Beach and Tahoe City. South Lake crews will be in the Meyers area (Tahoe Mountain, Sawmill, and Elks Club).
Crews continue to work around the clock to restore power. Estimated restoration time (ERT) for most customers is 8 p.m. tonight. ERT for Markleeville customers is currently 8 a.m. tomorrow. For customers who are in remote areas, an ERT is not yet available due to access issues.
To help reduce the risk of wildfire, Liberty recently completed a project to replace bare wire with covered wire, remove aging power poles, and add new poles. This project helps increase the resiliency of the service we provide to the North Lake Tahoe-Truckee community.
