4. I’d recommend thinking about journal articles AFTER figuring out the argument and scope of the “main thing” (dissertation). Once you figure that out, talk to your committee about what parts of the dissertation make sense as journal articles, when to submit them, and where.

9. I can only speak for my dept, but we don’t compare ABDs with people who’ve been out for years. We compare ABDs to other ABDs…and the expectation is not that they’ve been published. It’s about their potential as measured by the quality of their dissertation... So again
